Well that sucks because i love my plastic groove i wonder if i should even contact eric at dv about sending it back because i bough it back at the end of feb early march?

I would. I got mine ages ago and have emailed the vendor, who did a sort of vendor co-op thing with it.

I'd find it hard to believe that the plastic (non-conducting) cased one's would have the same issues. Unless maybe it's an problem with the battery itself.

I like mine too much and it suits my intended use perfectly. I'm probably just going to open up my metal Groove, insulate the case and all connections with electrical tape and shrink tubing, and take my chances.

Do not try this at home. I've got many years experience as an engineering technician including a degree in electronics.

From gotvapes..

SMOKtech has recalled the Groove due to recent information about possible
shorts that can occur within the unit. This can be a VERY DANGEROUS problem
and we are asking anyone who has purchased the Groove (either the black
plastic casing or the metal grooves). The problem that was reported
concerned the metal encased Groove but SMOKtech does not distinguish between
the two here:

Groove recall notice from SMOKtech site:
Groove Recall

I personally use the plastic encased Groove (two of them in rotation) and I
have dropped it on at least a couple of dozen occassions and have had no
problem. The case that was reported in ECF concerned a steel encased unit
dropped three feet onto carpet that shorted out and started discharging. BUT
the recall is for ALL Grooves. Please send your groove to:

GotVapes
c/o Max Wood
PO Box 5327
Wichita Falls, TX 76307

Max will then verify that you made the purchase at GotVapes and will then
issue you a store gift certificate - please give your name, email address
and phone number in a note in your package - this is imperative as we cannot
verify AND send the gift certificate unless we have someone to send it to.
You can use the gift certificate in whole or in part. This is better than
issuing a coupon code as with a coupon code you can only use once for the
full amount of the credit. Max will add $5.00 or whatever the shippign
expense was, to cover any shipping charges - send first class or if needed,
priority padded flat rate envelope.

RETURN INSTRUCTIONS - IMPORTANT!
When sending back please send back using the box it was sent in, remove the
inner packaging and wrap the unit in bubble wrap, insert in that box and
send back. You might be advised to use one of the Priority Mail padded flat
rate envelopes. We will reimburse you for any shipping expense of course.
Please only send the unit itself wrapped in bubble wrap inside the original
box or a similar rigid box of some sort.

Thanks very much and we apologize for the inconvenience.

I agree I'm keeping my plastic one.

I got mine because of the USB charging and long battery life. My plan was to leave it in the bedroom with one of my main fav juices to have something to vape while watching TV before sleep. My alarm clock has a USB port I use to charge my phone, so it can charge the groove too.

This way I don't have to fumble every night / morning carrying mods / batteries back and forth. Let alone trying to decide which mod has enough battery left from the day's use or which flavor I want to take to bed.

Only hassle left is the occasional carto change / tank refill. But I can leave a bottle and a couple cartos in the bedroom for that I guess. :D

Groove fits the bill perfectly.

From what little I've read and seen on youtube, it seems the battery may not be properly intact/secured in the metal Grooves, and possibly the plastic Grooves. Also, the battery seems to have a marginal wrap around it, making it prone to being punctured. This seems to be the case with the metal Groove because of the pointed screws on the sides of the unit protruding into a jarred loose battery. I don't see any way for this to happen with the plastic Groove because the screw assembly is different. Any thoughts on my assumption??
