It's my understanding that three dashes mean that your display is on but standby is off. If the display is off and standby is off, the screen shows nothing. This is true for the VMax, not sure for the Z.
With # 3 set to off you will get 3 dashs regardless of whether # 6 is on or off. Display turned off will be no display when firing only. This is on Zmax, my version 1 Vmax only turns off the light in the fire button and it will not light when set to standby. The light in the actual display when in menu mode will always light regardless of # 3 or #6 settings on all the Max's

Two zmax questions:
1. Why doesn't my button light up?
2. Does anyone bother with the VV? I tried it, then tried VW and never went back.

The zmax does not have an led under the button like the vmax did.
I play in the vv sometimes. Keyword is play. All the real work is done in vw :)

The Z has a different controller than the V....:)

And believe it or not, I use the VV cuz I use dual coils.
