well been trying the snus today to quit smoking. It has at least cut me down. hopefully i can just use snus only, but its not as pleasurable as a cigarette that much i can tell you. Something about a cigarette is very hard to mimic. the feeling of it, and the type of nicotine in it definitely is the most satisfying to me. I wish they just made healthier cigarettes lol.

But its probably something u have to get used to switching to snus. Gotta stick with it, im going to try.

I tried to quit smoking using just e-cigs and it wasn’t working. I was able to cut down to about a forth of my tobacco use but I couldn’t let them go. After about a month I was drifting back to using more tobacco. That’s when I found snus. It still took some time and effort but I was finally able to get off analogs.

I wouldn’t worry about smoking if you feel you must. It’s very likely that after awhile your need will just get less and less. Snus is very satisfying once you get the hang of it. The trick for me was getting the dose right. It takes a bit to get the hang of it. My method is to use both the minis and regular 8-mg portions. Nothing above that (your milage may vary on that). I get a good nicotine hit from the regular portions and I need that several times a day. The minis I use to keep the demons at bay. Another trick I learned is using the purified snus. I just do the 3-mg portions. It’s a much faster hit then any other snus. You have to be a bit careful with that stuff but it works well in the morning to get your nicotine level up to speed.

I still do some e-cigs, but not much. I more likely will do nasal snuff for a quick hit. If you’re not into e-cigs I would suggest trying some to supplement snus. Sometimes I just want that quick hit that I can’t get from snus.

Hope this helps.

Ignoring the above because the answer is everywhere on this forum.

Paladinx: Use everything. Don't make your choice an either/or proposition. Use whatever feels right for you to stay off cigarettes. Every cigarette is an insult to your body. Every one of them. Dr. Laugesen makes clears that there is no "safe" level of cigarette smoking. Not five a day. Not one a day. Agree or disagree with him, but he's an authority on this, and the chief researcher on e-smoking.

You might find you begin liking snus more and more. That was my case. It does far more for me from a "nic boost" consideration than e-smoking. But I'm most dependent on dissolvables, and dread possible action against them based on the Senate hearings now underway.

Hang in there. Try many different brands and flavors ... while you still can!

P.S. I assume you read www.snuson.com

That would really suck if i got into snus and then i couldnt buy it anymore. :-\ I guess the camel snus would still be around, but geez. I guess id go to skoal than, i know its not as healthy for your mouth, but im sure its better then smoking, Plus i heard reports that say the TSNA's in american tobacco are also far lower now then they used to be, but who knows.

Yeah I dont really agree with the researcher about cigarettes, only because anyone with health issues from cigarettes, I would say more than 9 out of 10 times is someone who smoked packs a day for decades. and all studies on cigarettes have clearly shown that negative effects are very dose dependant. but none of that means nothing to me because the truth of the matter is i can never keep moderation with cigarettes. its a pack and a half a day or nothing for me. I tried to cut down with little success.

Here's something someone with a sick humor might find funny:

Camel Snus will likely be banned if the Senate bill becomes law. It was not introduced prior to the Feb. 15, 2007, cutoff date specified in the bill as currently written. Anything before that date is grandfathered. New products after that date face regulatory hurdles that will trip almost all of them.

Camel Snus comes from RJR. Camel Orbs and Sticks come from RJR.

This is a Philip Morris bill the Senate is passing. PM has no snus, right? I thought so too until I remembered and read about Taboka. Yep, that's the spelling. It came on the market by PM in ... 2006. I tried it back then. Still have the tin it came in.

Eliminate the competition. PM is good at it.

PM marketed a snus before 2007. No other American Big Tobacco company did. So PM alone can market a snus product here if the Senate bill becomes law.

Even though I've been following the politics of this I'm not sure in what way it will effect the distribution of snus, nasal snuff etc. With e-cigs the ban would make it illegal to import and sell in the US, but it's very likely you'll be able to get it in small personal shipments from overseas.

With snus I assume that the US distributors would shut down (though don't quote me on that) but you should still be abel to get small personal use shipments from Sweden. Snus is banned in the EU but people are still getting personal use shipments from Sweden. I haven't heard of any shipments being turned back. At the moment I get most of my snus directly from the Swedes anyway so not much would change. The only real question is will the Swedish distributers ship to the US? I have to assume they would as they've been doing it in the EU.

An initial ban would likely affect only snus sold in America. That means Camel goes away; Taboka returns.

As for Swedish snus, it's not yet an issue. Waaaaay too small a number of people order it online. PM is looking at getting snus in every tobacco store someday. Online orders mean next to nothing to them .. or anyone.

I think online ordering of snus will remain legal. Just a hunch. I think online ordering of e-cig products will be banned, with suppliers identified and their shipments stopped. I think in a year or two, you'll see the Philip Morris Aria being sold in the U.S.

The End Game is market control. And Swedish snus just aren't a big enough prize to warrant an effort to stop them.

As much as I hate what's going on... if they end up leaving Swedish snus alone I will surely still be a happy camper. :thumb: I know that's a slightly selfish way to think but that's where I'm at right now.

Back to the topic of the OP... I had the same issue when I started using snus. It gave me the nicotine kick, but it took longer than I wanted and lacked the stuff I really had grown to like about cigarettes -- the throat and lung burn, the action of doing it, leaving the floor at work for a quick break (allowing me to get my thoughts together), and most of all, the social aspect.

So whenever I felt the urge to smoke, I'd pop a snus in and have a cigarette at the same time. Before I even got done with the cigarette, the snus would kick in and the cigarette would be a lot less appealing to me, so I'd toss it. It went this way for about a week. I'd pop a snus in, smoke half a cigarette, then throw it away. Eventually, my last pack of cigarettes got so old that I finally threw them away. The one pack lasted me 3 weeks.

I won't lie, I still crave one from time to time, but snus has definitely taken its place. If I put one in, the urge goes away pretty quickly. I still miss some things about them, mostly the social aspect, but I've mostly moved on.

Mostly.. I have had a total of 3 cigarettes in the last month because I was drinking with smoking friends. I don't really hold that against myself though. 3 cigarettes a month isn't really all that bad.

I am eight days without a cigarette, after 29 years of smoking, and am using only snus.

I cut down for a couple of weeks with an e-cig, but decided it wasn't for me. So I briefly went back to normal smoking, then turned to snus and Stonewall dissovables.

At first I only had the dissovables and American Camel Snus, neither of which seem to satisfy my nicotine needs, but I got some stronger snus and now am fairly comfortable as far as nicotine goes.

Basically, I think snus are a good way to quit smoking.

Advaita: Since this forum is for e-cig users, you'll find a bunch of great snus-minded folks at snuson.com. Join that group, too. I'm there several times a week, since I use snus all day, in addition to e-cigs, etc. There are fewer fistfights over there than on this forum! A few, but not many. Do read the Health section there.

I think the reason it is so easy to quit cigs with snus is because snus delivers the nicotine Michael Jackson style - straight to the veins, much like an nicotine IV drip. I received some REALLY GOOD baccys in the mail this week via trade. I smoked Mon-Wed of this week, I think it was. Having run out of tubes to inject the baccy, I had one last stick which I smoked yesterday morning. (It was 2/3 British Virginia & 1/3 double toasted burley, so was SCRUMPTIOUS!) After that, I was right back on the snus. For me, the cigs and snus are interchangeable as far as addictions, except the nic delivery of the snus is FAR superior.

Thanks TropicalBob, I've actually been reading that forum, just haven't got around to joining it yet. Seems a little advanced for this newbie, lol. I've read, enjoyed, and learnded from many of your posts both here and there. Haven't read much of the health section, but I'll check it out.

It was actually one your posts that got me to try the Stonewalls. I really like the Javas, but they don't seem to do anything for me nicotine-wise. Maybe they will once I get further away from the cigs. I'd actually prefer to use them over Snus, but right now nic relief is paramount.

Hi all!
I am now 11 days, analog free. Woot!
I have to thank Camel and their disgusting SNUS for making me curious enough to find this site. I used the Camel product until my DSE901 arrived a couple days ago. I also have a snus order from Northerner due any day now. I intend to use snus as a backup in case something goes wrong with my e-cig or if I just dont feel like vaping.
I really think this is the last time I am quitting, with so many weapons at our disposal, there is no excuse to crawl back to the filthy butts.

Good luck guys and gals.

i quit smoking on july 5th and must say it wasnt bad the 1st day. I wanted to smoke but was pretty comfortable bc i was using some nic gum. i decided to buy some snus bc the gum tastes like crap and to my surprise, never using smokeless tobacco of any kind, found it damn good and cheap. I still using snus for the real bad cravings and on average use 3-4 a day. I like the 'mellow' flavor more than 'frost' but the 'frost' isnt too bad. I never liked menthol cigs and thats what it reminds me of. I would recommend snus to anyone trying to quit smoking. Not only do i find it a healthier alternative but also way cheaper. It's ab $4.50 in NY for 15 pouches and some places have trial sizes 12 pouches for $3. Not too bad considering a pack of smokes averages $7-$9.

I ordered a bunch of Swedish snus in all flavors and varieties. The purified snus are indeed the quickest nicotine hit, despite being dry and flavorless. Also, the makers claim they are free of nitrosamines and therefore even safer than normal snus which have much less of the cancer-causing chemicals than cigarettes. It seems at least as safe as that nasty, expensive gum.

Anyhow, I have successfully (so far) distracted myself from smoking with snus. I still want to smoke sometimes, but I can limp through it. It's great not to stink like smoke, and yet not have to deny myself the occasional nicotine buzz. My lungs are happy with the arrangement too.

I had that too the first couple of days, it was like "I want a cigarette, let's have some snus", but now it's just "I want some snus". Seriously, the desire for cigarettes is almost completely gone. And for those moments when I really want to blow some smoke rings, I still got my e-cig and plenty of funky flavors with that. Only wish I had a bigger lip, since normal portions are still a bit uncomfortable... ah well.

Edit: May I recommend www.buysnus.com ? At least for me in Europe, it takes 2 days for the package to get here and I find their prices and selection quite reasonable.
