I recently acquired a new Cyclone. I was just trading for an AFC, but the kind fellow included the deck as well. Of course, the deck is a TF model. I'd love to just find someone to trade it for a BF, but we all know that isn't going to happen and I certainly don't have the ability to convert it myself, so I'm wondering if any of you handy folk have had success in doing so? I have a sneaking suspicion that if you are able and willing to fix it for me that the package I ship it in just might have a bunch of goodies in it to make it worth your time.

I pressed the center post out, removed the insulator, dremeled a slit in the insulator and pushed it all back together. Works a treat. juice flows up from around the center post well and drains completely the same way.

Hot water will soften the insulator for removal and insertion, but I also relied on a small table top vise for leverage. I had ordered multiple insulators when I got my cyclone just for this reason. HERE

Only threads on my BF are for the grub screws. I really don't want to take the TFs apart unless I know that they have a screw. I found metric screws with a head that will work and a hole through the middle.

These are made in 3mm and 4mm with a few different head choices

The center post is one piece. Solid from bottom to interior threaded top.
Do you think it is like a R91?

Be careful.

Hmm. Mine appears to be a different pin. The slotted head is much shallower and narrower than that one. I've tried unscrewing, pressing, heating (in water). All I've succeeded in doing is mauling the 510 threads and positive post.

I may try again later, but I'll probably just wait and see what Vicious Ant is doing next.

Likewise. I really don't want to abandon this base, but I know myself and I will fail miserably if I try to do the conversion myself. Sure seems like a grand idea after a few chats with my friend Wild Turkey though...

Assuming your referring to modifying the Cyclone to become a BF? I am tempted myself to do my own. I saw the 'insulator' slit method but I want to drill the post from the bottom. It seems so intimidating but when you look at it, it is really just a very small short drill into the post. I figure all I'd need is a good clamp or vice to hold the post to drill. Last night I even entertained the thought...Is there are any hand drills that would work? Something where I could just hold the post in one hand and drill twist with the other to 'drill' out? I'm going to check this out. Again, it sounds simple and I don't think it should be as hard as I'm making it out to be. Also, I found a place that has the Cyclone for $36 which actually isn't bad so I'd order a few more and do this to all of them.

....or am I dreaming? :)

Edit: Something like this....

Or smaller. What I'm looking for.....they're called Archimedean Drills. (not pictured)
