So I made my first coil .questions...

I finally got my wire today and immediately made a coil. After about half an hour the coil looks charred and the cotton looks either burned or stained. There also appears to be darker spots/flecks in the juice pool on the ceramic. What have I done wrong and how do I fix it?

charred cotton usually means too many dry hits. wick wasn't properly saturated. most likely why you coil might also looked charred.

I was hoping to get by without posting pics…but I'll take some before making my next coil, which I'm doing right now. I figured I probably let it get too dry…I did get that taste once. Hope I haven't ruined my juice by sucking the gunk back into the bottle. Thanks for the comment.

Definately sounds like you burnt the cotton! I have been teaching hubby how to work the Reo and RM2 and he has burnt the wick many times so far lol, he will have black flakes in the bottom of the atty also and the coil gets very gunky....I actually converted him to Silica wicks last night after rewicking his RM2 8 times yesterday!! So far the dry hits on that are teaching him he needs to squonk more often

You will need to squonk about every 3 hits!

If you burn a wick just pull out the old one. Dry burn the coil without a wick, so it glows, this will clean it up. Then rewick it. No reason to build a new coil unless you're like me and like to

Others have nailed it down I think. Using cotton as wick takes some getting used to. I pull the cap off of my rda compulsively to make sure there is plenty of liquid on the wick.

The second one seems to be working better, thanks everyone! The only trouble is it's around 1.5 ohms. Not loving my juices. Will play with all that later this week when I have some time. Also need to order an ohm meter (not loving the multimeter). Suggestions on suppliers?

i will frequently pull the drip tip out and look in the well to see where its at, most of the time i will squeeze watching the air hole... see the liquid hold dont keep squeezing, hold for a second or 3, then release... im working on fine tuning, 2 or 3 hits, resquonk... but i check every now and then... i havent burnt my wick in forever, but i have flooded the deck once or twice... no biggie, just a few toots without having to squonk for a while.... lol

When you squonk an RM2, there is a considerable difference between drawing from a full bottle or a partially-full bottle. I still find myself wondering why my vape is unsatisfactory and then remembering I'm nudging a bottle only 1/3 full. When they get to that level, you have to get kind of vigorous in your squonking.

One of my reo's has a dedicated juice, so I just open the bottle and top it off all the time, change the wick every day or so. After a bit of this I notice the black floaties. I know my wicks aren't burning, as I'm a compulsive over squonker. It's from the coil getting nasties and then end up on the ceramic well, or into my bottle. I realized that I should once a week clean out that bottle and every few days wash off my rm2 and dry burn it.

I may be an odd one, but I like vaping at 1.3-1.4 microcoils.
