Well, I'm obsessed with shows like Cops, Locked Up, Campus PD, Police Women, First 48, Crime 360, and every other crime reality show there is, and I have the utmost respect for law enforcement (haters gonna hate, so go on and hate, I still respect them -- some are bad apples, but don't let that tiny fraction ruin the whole batch). When an FBI agent flashes you his badge, it's like an electric shock goes through you. You suddenly feel like Bert Macklin (and for the record, I was in before the other Bert Macklin!)

I predict e-cigs will soon be banned as carry-on devices on air flights.

I sure hope not, I live here in Ohio but work and have offices in Alaska. Thats a 5 day drive with 2 people alternating driving/sleeping. A casual drive where you are off the road in a campground each day by 6 makes it a 12 day drive.

I need to fly but I need my vape gear with me

Remember the Underwear Suicide Bomber who set himself on fire when his homemade bomb went awry on a plane?
I suspect this B & M investigation by the FBI has some ties to this situation. A mod could be rigged to set itself off with the right kind of explosive (liquid?).

Oh wow, you just ruined my day!
(I didn't think that could happen after having oral surgery this AM)

I dunno - something seems off with this.

No disrespect meant to Rocketpunk. I believe things happened as he said. But I have problems believing these were really FBI agents - I'm more inclined to believe it was a scam or an elaborate joke or they were investigating something specific to this B&M/owner/employees.

As to the 'terrorist/bomb' angle - heck, lots of things could be modified to be dangerous (mods, cell phones, electric shavers, tablets, laptops, etc.). But even if that's what they were investigating, I can't imagine the F.B.I. (!!) asking to borrow equipment (so that they can x-ray it) and then bring it back. They'd just buy the stuff.

Don't believe this for a minute. Either this is a troll or somebody has been fooled. The FBI raiding a B&M in Dayton, Ohio, lol. I can believe the FBI might be investigating vaping devices, in which case they would purchase said devices on the down-low, probably online.

I'm gonna assume the OP is telling the truth.

Look, the FBI looks into stuff all the time. I had the feds knock on my door once (scared the bejeebus out of me) over some international calls my company had received (from Yemen, right before 9/11... so they were probably on the right track).

It's really not that big a deal, unless there's something sinister going on, in which case it's probably good that they're investigating. I really doubt the government's case against e cigs is focused on a vape shop in Dayton.

I'm no shill for the gov'ment, by any means (check my voting record). But I think the vaping community has to walk a fine line, between appropriate vigilance against being slandered and over-regulated, and acknowledging that our hobby does involve nicotine addiction that is an issue for teens, unknown (but likely benign) health impact, and electronics/liquids that probably should be inspected. And most of it comes from our friends in China.

It's gonna come under scrutiny. Let's not panic every time it's looked at.

Maybe ANTZ passing themselves off as FBI.... maybe carrying concealed video camera and recorder. Interesting.

I too think it's something local, and that kinda scares me.

The main guy kept asking another employee about how the filament in the atomizer worked. She compared it to a light bulb and he said, "so it applies heat evenly over a resistance wire" and she asked if he was a vaper. He asked a few more really weird questions, then she said this wasn't "that" kind of store, and that's when he flashed his ID.

I can't help but wonder if they aren't looking into a potential catastrophic failure of a device resulting in serious injury or death to the user...

I didn't even attempt to bring a PV with me on my flight. Figured it be easier to just pack em nice and tight and check em. In my experience it seems like it's almost up to the discretion of a supervisor. Some agents will allow this and others won't. Strange.

Curious why they "borrowed" some from a local vape shop though. I'd assume they'd just buy what they to wanted inspect. Let us know if they actually return the stuff.
