I can't help but wonder if they aren't looking into a potential catastrophic failure of a device resulting in serious injury or death to the user...

I hope that's not the case but still don't know why they'd waste the time and effort of going to a store to borrow the items. Maybe it is something local. I don't know how the FBI works but borrowing items doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

Who knows. Hopefully TS updates this thread if they bring the stuff back.

I don't think its OT but along the lines of explosives, are flashlights allowed in carry on or checked luggage? and if you could rig explosives in a PV or even a detonator, couldn't the same thing be done with a cell phone or ipad? Geez, I don't know if this is against forum rules come to think of it. If so, I'm sorry. Its an area I never paid attention to.

I certainly do believe it happened and I can see cops visiting a store. Sad day for me the other day when I was looking at juices and came across a ......... flavor. Said to my wife this is a sad day for the vaping world. Just a madder of time before [edited] figure out a way to use them to get their high. Under world start selling liquid ... to add to juice? I do suspect Bad is right and this is a foreshadowing of traveling on planes becoming much more difficult with PVs. It could also be a forshadowing of them getting an idea of what various mods look like under xray so that if importing them becomes illegal Mods can be spotted in customs more accurately and prevented from entering the country.

Yeah I know that sounds tin foil hat but the way the calls to action are snowballing I just don't trust the availability of gear going forward.

Also being from Ohio this actually doesn't surprise me...
People may bag on the fact that it's Dayton but they dont realize that there is a major airforce base nearby, so a lot of crap in the field of aviation goes down there...and now with higher and higher discharge batteries (35A 18650s anyone)....I can see concern (Didn't someone recently market a 100W, 25A device... Nearby yellow springs has probably one of the most liberal of liberal arts colleges in the nation and therefore is kinda friendly to that other smokeable green stuff...so there's that....
Dayton also has the nation's leading company thats putting out VR suites and VR training programs...including some gov contracts.

So yeah, Dayton...totally believeable

My local B&M is owned by police officers. They let ya know right away, are really cool ..
They have nice stuff grew really quick from the 1st week I was in there, now a year later they have everything relevant and new..

Well given the growth of popularity among certain groups that are using vape gear(specifically wax concentrates which pretty much require high power mods) to make borderline legal versions of highly illegal substances I can understand local feds going to B&M shops to borrow "educational" equipment. Besides the "repurposing" potential of the mods as a dangerous device, there is the fact that waxes are quickly becoming the dark side of vaping. I can think of about 10 illegal drugs that are now being made into vape waxes and thats a problem that is going to get us regulation and classification we don't need to have. I cringe at the prospect of being classified a smoking (tobacco) device but cringe even more at the prospect of being classified as a full blown drug delivery device. I really don't want to have to get a prescription to be able to vape.

Oh well bloody hell here's me trying to list all the vaping terms i can think of and it's brick and mortar, d'oh. The brick is a touch harsh though just wander in with a branded unit from somewhere else and demand to sample all the liquid

I dunno - something seems off with this.

No disrespect meant to Rocketpunk. I believe things happened as he said. But I have problems believing these were really FBI agents - I'm more inclined to believe it was a scam or an elaborate joke or they were investigating something specific to this B&M/owner/employees.

As to the 'terrorist/bomb' angle - heck, lots of things could be modified to be dangerous (mods, cell phones, electric shavers, tablets, laptops, etc.). But even if that's what they were investigating, I can't imagine the F.B.I. (!!) asking to borrow equipment (so that they can x-ray it) and then bring it back. They'd just buy the stuff.

Guess they have to call the local FBI office to enquire as to why these events have happened.
