OK, now here's a stupid question I guess.

Well a good reason for the why when you can just kick it up to 6V or 7.4V is because running stacked batteries to get 6V or 7.4V exceeds the max drain rate of the batteries (unless you're using high drain cr123a LiMN batteries for 7.4V)...which can do all sorts of wonderful things to your batteries like cause the overdischarge protection PCB in the batteries to trip, severely overstress the batteries reducing their service life, or cause the unprotected ones to overheat and explode..
So if running a LR atty on a 3.7V battery gets you the same heat and vapor but in a safer senario...the question is why would you want to stack batteries and overstress them to get the same effect and possibly cause yourself problems...
hmm the max drain rate of tenergy 3V LiFePo batteries is <.55A
max drain rate of AW 3.7V CR123a (750 mAh) is <1.5A (and ultrafires are worse)
ultrafire 3.0V CR123a (880 mAh) is <1.32A
ultrafire 3.7V CR123a (880 mAh) is <1.32A
and for fairness
AW 3.7V 18650 (2200mAh) is <4.4A
AW 3.7V high-drain CR123a (550mAh) is <4.4A
best case senario Amperage draw:
at 6V with a 4.5Ω atty....1.33A (at least twice the max drain rate of the LiFePo batteries, and just barely over the ultrafire max drain rate)
at 7.4V with a 5.2Ωatty....1.42A (just under the max of the AW batteries, and over the ultrafire max drain rate)
again for fairness:
3.7V 18650 with a 1.5Ω atty....2.7A
hmm lets examine watts put out
LR atty at 3.7...9.13W
standard 510...15.65W (6V)........23.81W (7.4V)
standard carto..12W (6V)...........18.25W (7.4V)
knock off 510...11.25 (6V)..........17.11W (7.4V)
801...10.29 (6V) ..........15.65W (7.4V)
901...9.73 (6V).............14.80W (7.4V)
HR 510 (4.5Ω)... 8W (6V).............12.17W (7.4V)
HR 510 (5.2Ω)... 6.92 (6V)............10.53W (7.4V)
so lets combine those facts for optimal battery safety and life and hitting that so called sweet spot (between 8 - 10W)
that rules out 6V with the lifepo and Ultrafire batteries so you can cross out anything in the 6V category)..
and that leaves you with 2 things a 5.2Ω 510 atty on 2 AW CR123a batteries (not the ultrafires) at 10.53W....and the LR atty on a 3.7V battery at 9.13W...
And that's going with the battery voltage rating...if it's at full off the charger voltage that even knocks out the 7.4V option with the AW batteries...
so truely the only "HV" options where you're not abusing or overstressing the batteries to the point where they could fail is the 3.7V battery with a LR atty...
or
using stacked 3.7V high drain CR123a batteries for 7.4V with a 5.2Ω HV atty...(and there you're pushing into the burnt taste range when the batteries are fully charged)
That's why the LR atties...

kriztufer when did you place your order? Trying to figure out what day Jeff is working on
