Those of us that are not machinists are E.E.s

(I only qualify as 1/2 of either)

LOL does a mechanic count anywhere close...lol

I catch most of this some is over my head but to chime in my two cents how about this...

Structural integrity and drop survivability
I like the idea of seeing my liquid but hey its clear plastic and clear plastic WILL break if you hit it just right...how about tight tolerance steel or aluminum shell with viewing slits around the plastic...but go figure shell the plastic tubing and it will survive most hits.doesn't even need to be thick just a 1/16in to 1/8in of steel will shore it up. A nice slot down opposing sides and viola instant viewing window...

Also I do agree w whoever I saw say this somewhere in the thread...most have a PV in the interests of functional use a VV mod would be best. but adding a PV to this design will add complexity beyond what is necessary and seriously add cost.

but then again what do I know I'm just a loony mechanic.....:vapor:

I am willing to add my soldering skills and virtually limitless(till I die or give up vaping)time to help I personally am trying to get materials together to make a few for me and a few friends and its insanely hard...(pardon the pun)

Getting caps made is the worst part.

I usually tend to see those almost instantly.....but my forte is taking an existing system and squeezing every last erg of performance out of it and then getting some it shouldn't have...

as I like to say in response to some saying the jack of all comment.....Damn good at most!!! forget this master of none......

Seriously though if you guys don't design into this some reinforcement I will add to my own...I like overbuilt....it survives longer...lol Plus a little brushed SS would accent the caps and give women somewhere to put their "bling"...ROFL

Has anyone tried using the mesh from a permanent coffee filter as an alternative to buying mesh in large pieces from an online company? Price wise, it's pretty cheap... They sell them at any grocery store or department store for around $5. Just not sure what the mesh size is.. I know it's pretty tight. Here is a link to show what I'm talking about

Amazon.com: Mr. Coffee GTF2-1 Basket-style Gold Tone Permanent Filter: Kitchen & Dining

the ones they sell at Walmart aren't gold tone and say they are stainless steel. Worth a shot to try, will be trying it out myself here as soon as I'm able to get my pieces machined.

I believe PVC is used in plumbing. The toxicity is from burning or sanding...or eating.

Unless I'm mistaken...

It's made out of chlorine and a bunch of chemical stabilizers, plasticizers, fire ......ants, biocides, etc. It's used in plumbing, mostly sewage. Homes that have it for plumbing should have a filtration system, because it's likely leaking phthalates and other chemicals into the water supply. But most people don't give a crap. Ignorance is bliss!

Not something I'd want to ingest in any way.. to each their own.

Food grade PVC on the other hand is likely safer to use than that of the other variety, but personally I still wouldn't use it.

The one I bought is not gold plated.. As for a fine mesh.. I have to use a magnifying glass to see the holes.. I've not seen 400 mesh yet so I have nothing to compare it to. I haven't cut mine out of the basket yet to see if it is rigid.

Richie

well get out a clear ruler and a mag glass and count some holes and multiply...maybe one of the nice engineers or machinists will tell us the formulae for getting mesh size from a hole count per what in or such...

Good information there. You've made a believer out of me. I've been working on a lot of other stuff (especially schoolwork) lately, so my gathering of supplies has come to a screeching halt. I suppose that's good because I get to glean useful information from these threads.

Good information there. You've made a believer out of me.

right... maybe not... Hudson just happens to be some random manufacturer of PVC tubing but their product description is well worded.

Hudson's flexible, smooth, corrosion resistant, non-aging and non-oxidizing food grade vinyl plastic tubing is produced from raw materials meeting FDA and U.S. Pharmacopoeia Classes I through VI requirements. Also available is flexible vinyl plastic tubing produced from raw materials meeting Federal Specification A-A-55697 criteria for laboratory and medical tubing (including oxygen handling.) For more information about the chemical resistance properties of food grade vinyl tubing, visit our plastic tubing specifying guide.

By the way, don't look now, but what do you suppose that tubing they use for your IV in the hospital is made of?

http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/iv-tubing.html

So even with all those nasty chemicals in it, I'm pretty old already, I think I'll risk it...

Hey hey now nuff with that old stuff I'm beginning to resemble that remark...LMAO

I'm not done Changing the world yet...Making it safe for us vapers anyway lol

I figure the tubing was safe I'm actually more concerned about the Cyanoacrylates in a mod designed to get anything questionable away from the juice....I can't even touch a $3 mini tank cuz I taste something diff.

on a side note and back on topic can one of you machinists out there tell me if this can turn the caps well enough?

Mini Lathe - Great Deals on Mini Lathes at Harbor Freight

its a 7x10 machine and I was looking at getting one sooner or later anyway...I need more toys in my batcave lol

Thank you... much appreciated RatIinDaHat and inconvenience doesn't bug me much I just putter along at my speed.
