Dry hits can always be solved with wicking and adjusting your watts used to how efficient it wicks. Wicking in tanks vary from tank to tank. Watch some reviews, read some existing threads on your tank and someone would have surely figured out the optimal wicking to it. As a general rule of thumb, a good wick is one without too loose or tight of a draw when you tug the cotton, and it shouldn't choke your juice channels as juice wont be able to flow freely. It's a balance of various elements.
TC suits some people but it isn't for everyone. When set up right, (no hotspots, secure leads, resistance is within device parameters, only mounted and locked when coils are at room temp) it should work fantastic. Chips like the DNA40/200, SX chips (especially the 350J) generally do TC very well. 420F is the general flash point where cotton burns when it is dry. When juiced up a temp of 420F won't burn your cotton, at least for me.
On tanks that wick very very well, such as the Billow or Bellus, i usually don't run TC as the cotton doesn't burn at my preferred power range, which is between 25-50w. I do run TC on my drippers so i will never get a dry hit if i forget to drip enough. I can vape it ill the cotton is almost bone dry
