A battery charger with the latest algorithm chip to intelligently select the best charging strategy is coming soon.

xtar will launch VC series VC4S in the first half of 2019. The product, which costs about $30, is currently in mass production and is expected to produce 100,000 units. This will be released simultaneously in China and overseas markets.

Intelligent identification of battery type and internal resistance

The biggest feature of this product is intelligence, which helps users choose the optimal charging strategy.

The VC4S is a powerful battery charger compatible with cylindrical batteries longer than 30mm and less than 75mm.

XTAR VC4S can be charged on the USB-A to microUSB cable without the need for an additional power adapter. The built-in QC3.0 input protocol allows the charger to achieve a maximum single-slot 3A fast charge when using the QC3.0 adapter.

The product has three modes of charging, capacitance and storage. When the battery is inserted, it can intelligently identify whether the battery is a lithium-ion battery or a nickel-hydrogen nickel-chromium battery, without requiring the user to manually select the battery type.

In addition, VC4S can automatically detect the internal resistance of the inserted battery, integrate the number of batteries, the maximum power of the input power, and the type of battery through the detected internal resistance, and then intelligently select an optimal charging strategy. This will not only gives battery fast charging, but also prolong battery life.

We always hope that the products can provide a convenient experience to all the users and meet the needs of the society. Therefore, it has always attached importance to the research and development of technology and product innovation. At present, XTAR has more than 70 patented technologies.

We hope the product can be a milestone

Founded in 2006, XTAR is an electronic technology company that integrates R&D, production, sales and service in Shenzhen. XTAR has been specializing in the development and manufacture of high quality Li-ion batteries, smart chargers, and LED flashlights for over 12 years.

Relying on the mature R&D department and independent production line, XTAR expands its industrial distribution and providing OEM/ODM services to clients with special requirements.

With all of the achievements, XTAR can meet the requirements of becoming a National High-tech Enterprise easily and at the end of 2016, XTAR achieved the award of the National High-tech Enterprise by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Financial Dept., and State Administration of Taxation (SAT) together with the first batch of the companies included DJI, TCL, SF technology in Shenzhen.

XTAR's previous products are mainly for e-cigarettes and diving flashlight users, but now we hopes that the new products can reach a wider audience.

We hopes that VC4S can become a milestone in its class and can become a time-varying product with high precision and intelligent performance.

Oh, may i know what is the left bay of your charger?
It often will not charge at 1 amp. Sometimes as soon as an 18650 is placed in the slot, sometimes later in the charging process. Sometimes charges between 0.5 and 1 amp, sometimes even below 0.5 amp.

Had the VC4 powered by an Anker Power Port 6 (12 amp, 2.4 Amp/port max) and charging often drops when plugging in a cell phone to charge - and will not reset unless I pull and re-plug the USB power cable into the VC4. This happens even though the Anker is nowhere near its 12 amp limit.

So I’m now running the VC4 off an Apple 2.1 amp, iPad power supply, and the left slot still will not consistently charge at 1 amp. The far right slot is fine. Of course, the 2nd and 3rd slots are empty when I’m trying to get the 1st slot (left slot) to charge at 1 amp.

I could use my PB2, but I like seeing how many milliamperes my batteries are receiving/holding. Bought the PB2 for travel and to use as a USB powerbank in a pinch.

Also have a VC2 which still works fine, but is slow at its 0.5 amp charge rate.

Question: Do the new VC2S and VC4S stop charging completely whe the batteries are full like the VC2 or do they continue to trickle-charge?

I bought an xtar dragon, the one with the probes, and found it has a few really nice features but literally one of the most useless manuals I have ever seen. The features of the device were not even all named in the manual. I had to watch a really long YouTube video several Times to even find out they existed, let alone how to use them.

This might be an issue that could still be addressed in packaging.

There is possibly another one which might not be:
I was also told that internal resistance comes in two types: AC resistance and DC resistance. The AC resistance is the one that matters for vapers because it helps track battery age, and the device did not measure it. I’m vague on what this all means currently. I still need to learn more about AC resistance vs DC resistance, but if so it might also be an issue.

I was able to use the refresh feature to measure the internal capacity of some new batteries I bought and identify them as fakes which was very very useful though.

This goes to the primary concerns of vapers about batteries: How safe are the batteries a person is using and what is their wear level? These are the things vapers worry about with batteries. Modern batteries can become unsafe when worn. No one wants to be killed by their batteries. Detecting damaged of fake batteries is quite important.

Perhaps the data line or adapter is marked as 2.1A. It is very likely that the current output from the adapter or charging line to VC4 does't reach 2A, and follow the current shunting principle leads to that the current allocated to the left slot of VC4 less than 1A. We usually also detect the current that the adapter inputs to the charger.

Hahah, Thank you for your recognition of the Gragon. Has a powerful feature is its unique features.

I have three of them; all from 2014, and all still working perfectly. The only issue is that the displays aren't as bright as they once were.
Off topic moment:
Ran into a weird example of that today. In an elevator. Building had five floors so it did nothing but count between 1 and 5. As a result the only time the lower left vertical bar lit up was for floor 2. It was much brighter than the others.
Totally pointless. I thought it was neat though.

Not true. It says 2.4 amp.

I've used my old Xtar VC4 quite a bit, but ended up buying the Zanflare C4 for the internal resistance feature (Mooch indicated that it wasn't exactly accurate on resistance, but it's a reference among groups of cells).

I had to pull the Xtar VC4 4 out of a drawer when I started using 21700 cells in my Pico S. The Zanflare wasn't tearing the wraps, but if I hadn't pulled back hard when I inserted and removed the cells if would have. Even then, it made wrinkle marks on the end of the wrap.

In my search for the ultimate charger I've gone through several. I started off with Nitecore 2 bay and over time I bought the Nitecore i4, Efest Luc 4, Xtar VC4, and the one I use most now, The Zanflare C4. With all that, none has every feature I want in one package. I'm using the Xtar VC4 now since it does 21700 charging without damaging the wraps.

Hello Dave,
Don't worry, the VC4S would not tearing the battery wraps.
