The only thing that I personally experienced was a bit of dry sinuses, and it seemed to only happen with juices higher than 20% PG, two other friends switched at the same time, and 1 of them has a moderately severe reaction to anything more than about 5 percent PG, where it aggravates his COPD, but 100% VG juices are fine. The other friend complained of sensitivity in her teeth for the first two weeks, and then it went away. The switch to vaping seems to affect everyone differently, but once you find your perfect setup, its smooth sailing.

I have already been using Carmex, I don't mind the taste personally, but it only helps a tiny bit and only temporarily. My lips do seem to be getting better over time though. Never heard of Magic Mouthwash, although perhaps something similar is clove mouthwash? I do have some of that which maybe I will try (just keep forgetting, lol).

I think that the sore lips and mouth etc are most likely a sensitivity to the PG. I do not think my symptoms (or most of them at least) are caused by not smoking because I never got any of these problems if I went a day without smoking and was not vaping (which prior to vaping I only ever did when I had to, like if I was doing something where I absolutely couldn't smoke). As for the cold-like symptoms, I think it is an actual cold. Taking tons of vitamins seems to be helping a little, hopefully I can fight it off. I am going to try to be a bit more gradual about decreasing my cigarette smoking. And I will try the VG liquid as soon as I am able.

I think these cartridges are designed in a way to try to keep people from refilling them but I will try with an empty one and see if I can pry it apart.

Thanks very much everyone for all the tips :)

if your e juice is geting on your lips or passed your lips it will make a sore cheap start up kits do that
or you are suxin to hard get vapor
a ego kit is a nice set up with a lr 306 atty
i dont use pg i make my own juice and use vg
i dont get any of them issues you guys are talking about

I agree. Juice in your mouth does cause them to sort of blister up. When you are a new vaper you tend to suck too hard and fast to get more vapor like a cigarette, when with an ecig you should actually suck slower to get more vaper. Sucking too hard tends to bring the ejuice into your mouth. Try to slow down a bit and maybe it will help. Also you can't drink enough water, especially if you are getting headaches. 24 mg might be too strong for you if you like to vape a lot.

I do not seem to be or feel like I am getting any juice on/in my lips/mouth and am not sucking very hard on the e-cig, more like long slow drags. I think have adjusted to the different smoking style with vaping pretty fast. And it really doesn't take a lot of suction on the E-Lites. I would not consider them a cheapo starter kit; they are one of the more high-end better quality analog-lookalikes available - they aren't like a 7-11 special ;-)

I find that I am vaping quite a lot though! I think it's partly because I don't feel completely satisfied and partly because there is no clear "finish" point with vaping as there is with a cigarette. When smoking you know you are done because your cigarette has burned down to the filter and there isn't any left, so you put it out. With vaping an e-cig you are never "finished" (unless of course your carto runs out or your battery dies, which is not very often with this model) and there is no signal that it's time to put it down. It sounds like there are a lot of "chain-vapers" out there though, so at least I'm not the only one. But when I try to vape less I find myself craving cigarettes more...

The sore lips seem to be improving a bit as time goes on. I have a bunch of cartos with 24mg nicotine and it will take me a while to order something else/have it arrive, so I guess I am stuck with this for now. I really think that I may be sensitive to the PG (for a number of reasons). I'd like to try some VG-only or mostly-VG juice but I still don't know whether or not these batteries are compatible with any other cartomizers or atomizers. I did figure out how to pry open the cartos, I just needed the correct tool (used a tiny set of conical round-nose pliers). But I'd rather get some blank ones if possible because these sometimes give off a gross burnt odour when they are almost out of juice, so I'm thinking they are getting burnt, yet if I don't allow them to get empty then they will still have some of the juice that comes in them inside.

Get a syringe to add juice through the mouth piece if you can't get it off easily. If they taste burnt you are vaping burnt polyfil, nasty and not good for you. Those cartomizers need to be thrown out, but before you do that take them apart and see what they look like inside. You'll learn how they are made and how nasty it is to vape them dry. With cartomizer it's best to top up with juice so they never get even close to burning.

I know you already spent a lot on your ecig, but over time you might save some money starting over with a more common format like KR808-D1s or 510s/Ego/Riva stuff. With sales and the multitude of vendors that sell them you have so many more choices. With your G9 you learned you like vaping and it would work for you, now use some of the savings from cigarette money to get something better. Maintaining that G9 will be expensive and very restricting on available options. It may never truly satisfy you if you need more heat(voltage) or longer vape times without changing batteries.

Canada makes it so much more difficult to shop, but visit the Canada ecig forum and people can probably direct you to local sources. If you can find a local vapers meeting, they are the fastest, cheapest way to see the variety out there. Vapers love to show off their gear and share ejuice flavors. Youtube ecig videos have some good information if you have the patience to hear people ramble on forever about very little.

I am pretty impressed with the E-Lites G9's functionality actually, but I want to get something else anyway just in order to have more options and to get something with a different look (something that it still small but functional and looks less like a cigarette, plus I'm a sucker for cool-looking design). The only reason I got the E-Lites was because I had a friend who had one so I got to try it out myself and had some assurance that it was a decent brand. It's so overwhelming to choose a new one though since there are so many choices! I don't really want to turn into one of those people who buys more gear than they can even use and spends more on vaping than they did on smoking, lol ;-)

I am pretty close the the US/Canada border so I just get stuff sent to the US and go pick it up, so I can order anything that's available in the US. I would love to go to a meet-up as you suggested though! That would be awesome and very helpful.

I knew that about the burnt cartos - as soon as I get a hint of that burnt/chemically flavour I stop vaping it. It's not hard at all to open them now that I know how, it's just that I can't really try any other juices without mixing it in with the pre-filled juice (unless/until I find out what other cartos would fit).

Hi, I am new to vaping and am loving it so far, my only complaint is that it is making my lips and mouth hurt. Kind of like a combination if I had been not drinking any water, eating something bitter/astringent, and had a sunburn on my lips. My throat is also a bit sore. Is this common? Is it an allergic reaction or just dehydration from the vapor or something? Is it something that may go away over time as my body gets used to vaping (it does seem to be slightly better today than yesterday and I've been vaping even more today - only had one analog cigarette! which is a huge deal/accomplishment for me). Also I have a slight headache, although sometimes if I'd smoke a lot of analog cigarettes I would get one.

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am using an E-Lites "G9 Series" cigarette-look-alike 2-piece that uses pre-filled cartridges in their regular full-strength tabacco flavour. They are 2.4% nicotine and the base is mostly PG with a tiny bit of glycerol and "tabacco flavour". I am not sure what the model number is or how to find that out?

It would be helpful to know whether these symptoms are most likely being caused by the PG or the nicotine and whether it might be alleviated by trying a different type of liquid. E-Lites only offers tabacco flavour or menthol flavour cartridges - they specialize in trying to replicate the smoking experience, which I found/find really helpful as a novice, but in future I'd like to get something that doesn't look like so much like a cigarette so I can vape in places where smoking is banned, and I'll probably try some fun flavours... For now the fact that the E-Lites look, feel and taste fairly similar to a cigarette is very helpful in tricking my brain and body ;-)

It is most like the ascorbic acid used as part of the flavoring recipe. You most likely experience the same thing if you drink too much orange juice.

Quotes edited due to "new" poster in old thread:
hi

I turned to vaping over 3 years ago and only use VG and just recently started to get sore lips and cheeks and I am sure my mix has less nicotine in now than I used to use when I first started making my own juice.

If you suspect an allergic reaction:
1) Be careful.
2) I'd suggest diving strait into DIY e-juice with a cartomizer that you can fill yourself or dripping into an atomizer.

DIY is NOT complicated...it can be stupid simple. The main reason I bring it up is so that you have complete control over the ingredients and can isolate the problem.

Get some PG, VG and nic base (maybe two nic bases...one in PG and one in VG) plus some flavorings. Keep it simple...like grape, lime, spearmint, menthol... stuff you can do with single flavors. Get into "recipes" later.

Order the nic base in double your target strength. You'll just cut it in 1/2 as you mix up a bottle. Add the PG and or VG after the flavoring to "top it off".

Note that most flavoring and nic is sold in a PG base. So if you suspect PG allergy, you'll have to find 100% VG stuff.

Also note that not all PG/VG are created equal. This is particularly true, in my experience, with VG. I had some VG that gave me the mouth sores like you described. Once I swapped it out for another vendor's VG...all was fine. I think some cheap VG is from coconut rather than vegetable extracts. May be the problem in my case.

You can try unflavored 1st. Then, add flavoring if it doesn't bother you.

Some "cold-like" symptoms are not uncommon when you quit smoking since your body is actually healing up a bit. If it persists, get some better advice (doctor?).

Hope this helps.
