hi
I turned to vaping over 3 years ago and only use VG and just recently started to get sore lips and cheeks and I am sure my mix has less nicotine in now than I used to use when I first started making my own juice.
If you suspect an allergic reaction:
1) Be careful.
2) I'd suggest diving strait into DIY e-juice with a cartomizer that you can fill yourself or dripping into an atomizer.
DIY is NOT complicated...it can be stupid simple. The main reason I bring it up is so that you have complete control over the ingredients and can isolate the problem.
Get some PG, VG and nic base (maybe two nic bases...one in PG and one in VG) plus some flavorings. Keep it simple...like grape, lime, spearmint, menthol... stuff you can do with single flavors. Get into "recipes" later.
Order the nic base in double your target strength. You'll just cut it in 1/2 as you mix up a bottle. Add the PG and or VG after the flavoring to "top it off".
Note that most flavoring and nic is sold in a PG base. So if you suspect PG allergy, you'll have to find 100% VG stuff.
Also note that not all PG/VG are created equal. This is particularly true, in my experience, with VG. I had some VG that gave me the mouth sores like you described. Once I swapped it out for another vendor's VG...all was fine. I think some cheap VG is from coconut rather than vegetable extracts. May be the problem in my case.
You can try unflavored 1st. Then, add flavoring if it doesn't bother you.
Some "cold-like" symptoms are not uncommon when you quit smoking since your body is actually healing up a bit. If it persists, get some better advice (doctor?).
Hope this helps.
