ALRIGHT EVERYONE!

I'm excited. I may be getting a job in Sikorsky. "MH60R Seahawk Australia, same as US and Blackhawk in the Army"

SO. Got me thinking. I want the blackhawk color with a golden crucifix. Might even just paint this one. Following is the picture of the paint.

Any ideas on how to get this rugged look?

Matt grey paint (you'd have to find the right shade of grey for you).

Or if you can't get matt of the right color, only satin or gloss, you can test one method on some test piece: paint it but don't let it dry naturally, use a hair dryer right away (not on hot setting, it's about the movement of the air hitting the surface of the paint job) to dry it out and see how it comes out. That should take the shine out of it, you won't get a uniform finish though.

You could also look up military vehicle paints

No matter what sort of glue you use, the cross will likely come off someday. I affix ornamentation to guitars a lot. What I would do (and this is just me) is to use self tapping screws. They wouldn't need to be very long. I would use the ring at the top for one, and drill a hole close to the bottom for the lower one. Orient the cross as you want it, then drill into the mod through the top hole. Then drive the screw until the cross is tight enough to stay in place, but that it will still move a bit. Position the bottom hole where you want it, then repeat. Now affix both screws, but not so tight that they won't come out easily.

If the metal of the mod is hard enough, and the metal of the cross is at least a bit softer, then you can use the mod itself as a mandrel. Bend the cross to fit. A hammer may be needed, but try it with your hands first. The points of the cross will probably not be flush to the mod, so remove the cross, and bend the points until you have a nice fit.

Before you screw it back down, you could put a little epoxy inside each hole, then screw it back down. Work a bit quickly. Give it enough time for the epoxy to harden, and then I hope that it's where you want it, because it ain't coming off.

Look at Tamiya model paints. They have quite a selection of military colors. Have fun!

What is Cerakote?

As for self tappers, sorry no, the head would be the size of the cross nearly. I was thinking epoxy or jb weld, if wanted to be critical you could add some fibers in the mix. As for the finish, I really need it thick and matte. I'll have to go to the hardware store and see what my options are. Might end up doing like 4 coats to make it real thick sturdy and matte.

Cerakote and Duracoat are the spray and bake coatings used on a lot of guns. They have a lot of military colors, and it's super strong. It's sold in a spray system now, non bake. But the bake stuff is amazing.

Oh boy, ones in Jamisontown near my work in Penrith. Didn't know they did that. Might see how much for the next Squid i have. Probably would be quite expensive I'm sure. Apparently, at the home depot bunnings shop, they only have flat white grey and black. So got a semi gloss dark olive grey mixture. Looks pretty close. I'll share when I spray it
