I have the ipv3 li so I can also do tc mode. What setting would I use it on? Ti? Thanks for your help.
I just read that you use ti mode
If your trying to use SS wire in TC mode without a mod that you can't adjust the tcr then you can try putting in SS coil and running it in ti mode at around 200 and slowly going up. I know the lowest with the ipv3 li may be 212f, so just try it there but be a little cautious because I know my ipv4 seems to run a little hotter then some of my other mods.

Where did you get it from and what gauge? I have to say that SS seems to be one of the cleanest tasting out of all of the wires. I love my ti and I still prefer ti over SS in most cases but that's just because it's more accurate with TC. SS though can be ran very nicely in VW mode and TC mode pretty well. You just have to find your sweet spot with SS in TC. I hope you enjoy trying out a new wire!

26 gauge and from amazon. I have yet to try ti but I've heard nothing but good things. I've always vaped kanthal and I decided to try something new. Nickle has been out for a while but it's something that I won't try.

Hi, so do i upload the csv files from steam engine then edit the TCR under special???
Or do i upload daniel's profiles then edit TCR?

Sorry but i'm not sure which is it cause my ss tc not working on my reuleaux dna
Thanks
It's one or the other. You either upload the curve (CSV file) or just enter the number (TCR) under the special tab. I would think using a curve would be more accurate but some seem to get better results just using the number. Try both and see which you prefer. At least that's the way I understand it for DNA200 mods. Some mods only allow you to input a number (adding a curve is not an option).

Cheers,
Steve

I understand that stainless steel wire has been discussed in another thread but I would like to narrow things down a bit and see what other people's experiences with this wire when using temperature control.

I have brought some SS 316 wire from Fasttech in 0.22mm to 0.30mm sizes.
And I was wondering what is the best gauge wire to use.
I also like to use twin coils in my atty's.

I am using a DNA200 board mod, and I'm not really sure what the best setings to use.
I have uploaded a profile for SS from the steam engine site, but what are the most ideal temepatures to set the device to, and also the best voltages, and of course what are the safe settings for this type of wire?

And thanks if anyone can help me out. :)

316 stainless has a low TCR, which means it isn't going to be as accurate and smooth in sensing temperature. However, the DNA does a better job of it than most any other mod and you can make it work pretty well.

Typically with TC, you want a higher resistance -- as high as you can get inside your atty with the wire you're using. I will preface that with saying you can overdo it and make it so it takes the coil forever to heat up, so you will have to find a happy medium.

The temperature you set it at is up to you. The power you need is up to you as well. Start with a temp like, say, 420F and work your way up until you get a satisfying vape.

Also, in regard to Daniel's temperature probe tests, he only tested at 400°F. I wish he would give us a wider range of tests. Why? Because the TCR will be a bit different at each temperature. So, the TCR he used might be more accurate for 400F than it is for 450 or 500. That's the whole reason there are .csv files in the first place -- so you can achieve more accuracy at a specific temp that you specify. Also keep in mind that he uses UD 316L SS wire. If you're not using UD's brand, there's a possibility that your temps might be a little off from his findings. Different manufacturers probably forge the wire slightly differently with slightly different specs.

I really wish I had a thermocouple lying around. I may go buy a cheap one off Amazon.

Thanks BigEgo

And I have been using SS wire exclusively now in all of my TC mods and have found that with different boards I have to set my upper temperatures at different limits to achieve my desired vape.

The most satisfying vape is achieved with the DNA200 chip, but all my devices seem to be performing great with SS wire and 316 grade seems to work fine for me. :)

People seem to be tying to tweak settings and not realising that their build is probably more the issue than any settings...

Fwiw, with ss on tc, i find it more accurate and hence works best when your resistance is 0.5 or better (0.6 seems to be the butter zone for me personally), SS wire just doesnt have the larger differences in its TCR curve that people are used to with other/older tc wires. TCR i use on both devices is 0.00092

Case in point, built a 0.4 316L ss coil the other day, whacked in on the TreeBox (which is about as stable a mod as ive ever found)...erratic....whacked it on the SX Mini (a bit more tolerant, but not immune) ..usable but not great. Usually i build a 0.6 coil, which works with no drama (both mods). Last night built a 0.8 coil for ....s and giggles and it worked fine (on both mods), but strangely not as good a vape as my 0.6 coil..... or maybe im so used to it

Thank god i can achieve my 0.6 with only 7/8 wraps on 3mm, beats the hell out of trying to fit 13 wraps of Ni into a Lemo 2 and then not collapsing the coil when wicking....i do not miss the DNA40 days...

As of a week or so ago I'm pretty much dead set on SS316L being my go-to wire. Having used Ni, Ti, and SS430 I tend to lean more towards a malleable wire. Although I still have a soft spot for Ni200 but this completely over takes it. Pretty much will just use SS as my TC from here on out. Absolutely hate titanium to bits and will just use up the last of the Ni in time.

I just placed an order for the 430 SS from Unkamen Supplies. I was lucky enough to find a free shipping code. If you look at the reviews, it seems like a lot of the people are using it for TC and like it. I'm pretty excited about getting it (hoping with the higher TCR it will be smoother than 316L in TC on my DNA200 mods). Everything I've read at various places about it has been positive for use in TC. From the site it says: No Nickel, It is tarnish free, corrosion free and will last forever! Also says 100% Guarantee and Made In The USA. What's not to love.

Cheers,
Steve

Just make sure you clean it when your going to coil. I use the same SS from Unkamen Supply and it was a great deal for 200 ft ($5 at the time).
