If only I had known...I mean, it can't be this easy. Let me explain. I am a 60 year old guy...42 year...2-3 pack a day smoker. I received my Volt starter kit on Friday, charged it and was vaping by 6pm. I ordered an auto and a manual battery and 555 cartos and a bottle of desert joe. Started on the auto, and experimented with different ways to draw it, breath it, hold it...all very analytical. Didn't really enjoy the 555 (too sweet) but was obviously getting nicotine because I didn't grab a cig (hereafter to be known as analog) for 3 hours. Then I ate a donut...OMG that made me crave an analog...so I had one. Then I went back to vaping until 11pm or so and I had an analog before bed. Saturday I had 2 analogs with my morning coffee, then started vaping with the manual...which I found so much easier...more like real smoking. In the afternoon, I refilled my first carto which I learned from the youtube video. Now I felt like a pro. The desert joe was much better than the 555. About 2pm I picked up an analog and lit it just out of habit and immediately snuffed it out. About 4pm I figured I might as well smoke it as it was laying in the ashtray looking lonely. Guess what! It wasn't that satisfying...kind of meh...I found that I liked vaping at least as much, and maybe more. At bedtime I had an analog...just in case I needed it. Sunday I had 2 analogs with my coffee, simply because I hadn't filled any cartos...and then back to vaping...all day...no more analogs! Today, Monday, 1 analog with morning coffee...and that's it. I've gone from 50-60 cigarettes a day to 1 all in 3 1/2 days...with no withdrawal, and no cravings. I just ordered another battery, a sample pack of cartos, and 2 more bottles of juice. I hope this isn't just some kind of dream...I simply can't believe it was this easy and enjoyable.

This is great to hear! I'm in the same boat, roughly. Granted I didn't smoke nearly as long, but I thought it would be a tough process. If you keep yourself in supplies and just remind yourself how not satisfying that last cigarette was, you will continue down the path. IF you slip up once or twice, don't kill yourself over it. It is difficult to stop doing anything that someone has done for 40+ years, let alone some thing as addictive as smoking.

Thanks for sharing your experience - this made my evening!

A warm welcome to you Grimwald! My experience and longevity are very close to yours. Got my kit the last day of March, 2010 - been smoke free since then. I also soon discovered a large number of "new" appreciations and times of enjoyment in other areas of my life as well.

The very best to you!

Aw, man, that choked me up a bit. I really want my parents to stop, but they are just so conservative. I am ecstatic you have found an escape from those ....... cigarettes. Sorry, I really do hate them. And I only smoked for 23 years, I can't imagine the elation you must feel. Keep it up, don't look back, there is nothing but good times ahead. Breathe deep and prosper, hehehe. And welcome to ECF.

Cuando, I wish you luck sir. Since starting vaping, I've turned on two people at work (to vaping!) and have answered some questions for a few in-laws. I've learned that like many things, it helps to just ask them "want to try it?" instead of pushing them to quit. The most common reaction is kind of a bit of shock. The vapor production, flavor and throat hit usually make people take notice. I've gotten a niece and her sisters husband trying vaping now. Its kind of a "handle with kid glove" approach.

Smokers who have been at it for years will have all sorts of things to say about vaping (if they haven't tried it). Its some newfangled crap. Pony up and smoke a real cig. You kids are too soft these days, you always need something weaker. Yep, heard all of that. But, at the end of the day, I can run a 5k now. I don't wake up with a smokers cough any more. I can take three flights of stairs at work and pass on the elevator.

Stick with it. You may get some flack, but keep it in the back of your mind that YOU are making the right decision and they may be lucky enough to follow suit. Don't force them, but be ready to give them a taste of clean air. You might just save their life.

Great News and welcome to a fun hobby. You will soon find SI has all kind of gadgets and some of them will make you put the Cartos down. I have moved up to what could be viewed as overkill but turning the quit into a hobby has made it even easier to stay with it and some of the advanced equipment gives you a much better Vape. I had smoked 2packs a day for the last 10 or so years but smoked for over 30 years and thanks to the Volt products I was able to put the analogs down in a matter of days too. Now I am just having fun trying different flavors and gadgets but still spending far less money and feeling better everyday. One of the first benefits I noticed was my sense of smell and taste started to return and I don't wake up coughing and hacking anymore. I'm not sure if there is a down side to Vaping other than trying to explain my X2 1300 with a Clearomizer is not a crackpipe to my friends.
