stardust burnt taste

Any tips or tricks for these?

Seems like they work decent for the first few fills.... every few hits i would get a dry one but got around that by holding it upside down and hitting it without pushing the button...

this works for a while but now all im getting is nasty dry hits that taste like a month old carto before i pitch them.

havnt took one apart yet but looks like im gonna have to.

I just cant find anything that doesnt do one of the following, dry hit, taste nasty after a while, or leak.


i cant wait to get my scubagen v3 mini in a coop deal. Im also thinking of building a rebuildable carto using stainless mesh as a filler.

I have a viva nova and phoenix tank on the way but prolly get more of the same there

This last ones only a few days old and doing it, i think i read that the coil leads coming from the bottom may get hot and burn the isolator plug somewhat, i read this a while ago tho and cant remember if they were talking about these or the vision stone tanks.

either way, im getting dry hits and it seems i shouldnt, the wicks are clearly not being choked by the seal

Searched around and seems like the quality is quite inconsistent.. Meh I'm getting my first stardust soon :/

have you tried lifting the little rubber cup up just a hair,so your wick can wick a little more (it maybe pinched down to tight ) ?

I am on my second one & it is over a month old & what I am using daily . I chain vape even & have had no problems . I dropped it about 2weeks ago & It snapped the top ring & tip off ...but a standard 510 dt fits in hole & it is still rockin'. I have taken rubber cup out ,soaked in hot water for a half hour or so & dry burned 2X I think .

I'm having good luck with them and REALLY like them. I clean them about every other day. Fill (almost) with VERY warm tap water, shake 30 secs, empty: repeat twice. Then run them in a $20 ultrasonic for five 3-minute cycle (mine cuts off after 3 minutes automatically) in DISTILLED water. I've done the dry burn successfully -- 5 secs on, 5 secs off -- two or three times -- then filled with juice.

Then I went overboard on the dry burn once and ruined one. Burnt the wick, I guess. Once that burned taste is there, there's no getting rid of it. So I tossed it.

I've never taken one apart for cleaning, but I may.

For some reason, it occurred to me to fill one with distilled water -- AFTER cleaning -- and vape a few hits with just the distilled water (so it couldn't possibly burn the wick). Five or ten hits. Nothing comes out, really. Not even steam. But if there's any residual flavor odor left after cleaning, the distilled water hits make it vanish. Additionally, I'm thinking the distilled water hits help clean the coils, maybe more safely than dry burning.

Then I empty the cart, shake it out, fill it with juice, and go.

Works for me!

I tried a Stardust LR v2, same problem, One awesome puff, then just smoking the wick every hit after unless I let the wick soak for 30+ seconds. Fussed and fiddled then tossed it in the trash.
I recently picked up an EGO cone cartomizer from Madvapes, 1.7ohm single coil, 2+ml of juice capacity, works 50 times better then the Stardust did, could choke a firefighter, been vaping DK RY4 for 3 days straight off of it with no problems.
If the Stardust has failed you then try the 1.7ohm SC Ego Cone carto, just be sure your batt can handle 1.7 ohm and has EGO threads or you have an EGO thread adapter.

Note-The Ego carto has a Rubber drip tip of Ego sizing and can fall out if it gets greasy with juice arund the edge, pick up a couple extra Ego drip tips to replace the rubber one if it falls out and is lost.

i wonder if the coil is too tight on the wick on mine? Ive tried lifting the rubber cup seal up already, the wicks arent getting pinched. I need to order some kanthal wire and try recoiling this thing...


I wonder how these would perform with a stainless mesh wick instead of the silica one?

I have 5 of the v2 ones and I havnt had any problems, however, my hubby has one from the same box as mine and has had dry hit problems. I had him adjust the tip to not screw down so tight and it helped alot. I'm thinking alot of the problems are the tip and/or tank being screwed down too tight. Try prying the little white cap up a couple of millimeters and see if that doesnt improve the wicking issues. I love these little things but they could use a design improvement. I now a V3 is comming out with longer wicks but I dont think thats going to fix all the issues they have.

just a follow up FYI ....

You CAN NOT BURN a WICK ....
the wicks used in all these carto's are able to handle 100's of degrees higher than our little batts (even BIG Batts ) can put out .

dry burning is burning all the gunk off the coils & out of the wicks .

If your getting a burnt taste or dry hit off a wick it is the gunk you are tasting not a "burnt wick" .

When you put a wick to "flame" it will glow RED HOT then it will go back to being white ...
because you just burned all the residue out of the wick .

I don't think the tension of the coil around the wick can make a difference (i my be wrong tho )....the wick just sucks up the liquid & holds it there to be vaporized ...so the problem seems to be that the liquid is not replenishing (wicking) fast enough or at all . I have seen coils NOT work as well as they should if the coils are too close together , you can separate them with a toothpick , if you can see & get down in there ...I have ahuge lighted craft magnifier , so I can see down in there to adjust the coil when necessary ...

...did you watch the video ? it really helps to see how these go together & how they should work

I wanted to report that in my opinion the new longer multi-wick Stardusts are simply awesome. I loved the short wick ones, despite having to hold horizontally, and having to fill with fluid long before they got very low. But these new V3 ones (that many vendors are calling V2 for some crazy reason) in my opinion will really solve most of the issues some people were having with dry hits and poor wicking. I got mine from Smoktek - 2.1 to 2.4, using on KGO batteries. I swear they hit better, have a slighty lighter draw, it's nice not to have to vape horizontally, or worry about the wicks staying immersed. They have eight very thin strands hanging down, I can now vape til darn near empty, and you don't even see the wicks once you get liquid in them. Have been using two of them for 4 days now, without a hint of a dry hit or burnt taste.

i already ordered a few more first versions a few days ago before hearing about the v2's my first one im going to take apart and recoil/rewick when my kanthal wire gets here.
while i have it apart ill see if theres any wicking modifications i can make.... one good thing about these is that they dont leak like the stock vision stones, i also have a viva tank and phoenix coming

Vape with the plastic drip tip/mouthpiece on. It makes a huge difference!

The plastic is too close to the metal, which I'm certain is causing most of the burt/plastic taste for most people. I've discovered simply vaping with the black mouth piece off makes the flavor/vape much better

sorry - forgot to update- I ended up having to recoil and rewick all three I bought.... they work great now and quick to repair. I think the original coils are way too tight

ivape.net is going to start selling a "King Coil" 3 ohm stardust this weekend. I was lucky enough to get to beta test one, and I think they are a big improvement. For one thing, the wick is ceramic silica (and they are the long wicks), and the coils are hand-wrapped in a higher-quality wire and tested in-house. The result? A clearo that has all the convenience of the old stardusts, but doesn't give you that scratchy feeling in the back of your throat like a lot of the China-produced coils. The taste is fuller, and the vapor feels thicker. Even though it's 3 ohm, I've been running mine at 4.1V. It takes a few draws to warm up, but then it's perfect.
