Thanks for the feedback guys! If I were to start trying
1. Cartos and
2. an Atty with a tank
- can someone post a couple of links to the products I might wanna try with the ego-C upgrade battery? I figure I might have to buy an adapter, since most cartos and attys come in the 510 style?

An Ego already has a 510 connection. As far as recommendations, it kinda depends on what you want.

Straight cartos? (might want an ego cone) ... Carto tank? (might want to buy a cartomizer hole puncher)
Glass tank like IBTanked? ... can't think of the other low cost glass tank people love atm.

Standard drip atomizer like a 306? Atomizer Tank like an AGA-T?

Perhaps even a Kanger T3, clearomizer, and/or Clearo tanks like Vivi Nova Mini?

I am already using clearos... just wanted to try something different due to the leaking. Any pointers on specific components that work well with the ego-C upgrade battery would be great... I am willing to drop a few dollars on experimenting, but with the choices out there, I just want to make sure I am not waiting one more week to get that $part I forgot to order the first time around :)

I'd personally recommend a Vision Nova mini with a metal tube and matching metal drip tip ... a small type D sleeve/skirt ... a lanyard to keep it close and safe.

Granted, the Nova is basically a clearomizer in the shape of a carto/atom tank. The metal tube will make sure no "hot" juice is causing the leak. It's a nice setup though, and probably the most common these days.

If you want to try dripping ... just grab a cheap 306 atomizer. If you decide you prefer atomizers, you can always grab an AGA-T from DiscountVapers for under $30 later. If price is no option, maybe even skip buying the clone and go ahead grab a DID or Zen.

You can also grab a single cartomizer to see how it compares and then buy more if you like them. Then you can decide if you want a carto tank or not and whether you want a glass or plastic one. IBTanked makes some pretty cool looking glass tanks at a really decent price. Just remember you have to buy the end caps separate.

I'd hate to tell you to go buy a bunch of any device because you might try it and not like it, thus pizzing away hard earned money.

It is a clearomizer in the sense that it uses the same feeding method and hardware. Coil wrapped on a wick. centered by a post.

The only differences are that they're shaped like a tank, have metal tubes you can use, and have replaceable atomizer heads that can also be rebuilt to save money. The Vision Clearomizer (replacaeble/rebuildable) actually uses the same heads at the Nova.

If your going to use a Vivi Nova you might as well stick to a clearomizer as theyre pretty close. A TRUE carto tank setup will give you more flavor.

I use Phiniac tanks and pre-punched Smoktek cartos. IMO pyrex is the only way to go with tanks as you dont have to worry about tanks cracking or plastic leeching into your juices. Also the flavor is better.

Ive seen some poster who hear glass and think it will break easily, not so with pyrex.Theres a video out of someone chucking a Phiniac at a brick wall and it didnt even have a scratch on it afterwards.

Would you prefer to enjoy your favorite beverage out of a plastic cup or out of glass?

Once you try a high quality cartomizer and find that you like it, consider investing another $20 for a pyrex cartotank from IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us!. I did a review of them here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tank-reviews/349222-ibtanked-pyrex-glass-tanks.html.

A tank is just a device that keeps the cartomizer's polyfill bathed in e-liquid for all day use. No need to frequently top off the carto with more liquid when it runs low, the tank acts like a built-in juice bottle. The tanks that utilize a pyrex glass tube seem to be the way to go now because they are immune to the effects of some liquid flavors that can crack/melt the plastic tubes previously used, and being a totally inert material the glass does not cause a "plastic taste" that some people could detect.

Tanks can be of two lengths. Standard (uses a 35mm long carto) and extra long (uses a 45mm long carto; DCT tanks). Just be sure that either you match the tank length to the carto length, or match the carto length to the tank length.

I recommend new tank users to buy cartos with holes already in them, preferably laser-drilled. Self-punched cartos, or carto's that have been punched by the vendor, can be out-of-round (distorted) to the point that they are difficult to pass thru the tank. Laser-drilled cartos eliminate this problem, and also eliminate any user error issues related to punched cartos that can frustrate new tank users.

Two vendors that I highly recommend for laser drilled cartos are Ikenvape and Smoktek. The Smoktek site allows choices of dual or single coil, 1-2-3 holes, and ohm choices (Smoktek cartos are only for the extra long or DCT tanks). Ikenvape offers both standard or long (mega) lengths, single coil only, and only 2 hole design. Both are highly recommended:

Valley Vapes offers polypro and pyrex tanks for use with Boge and other cartos. Their "Sidewinder" design includes a thumbscrew fill hole that makes filling easy and vacuum release a 10 second no mess process. For under ten bucks, the polypro tanks are one of the better deals out there. With a properly primed carto, I can get a trouble free vape for several refills. No burnt taste, ever.

The trouble with Clearo's is the shoddy coil wrap and wick. Vivi's, CE-5's and 6's,... too often give a burnt juice flavor. Even after rebuilding them, their performance is not consistent. Rebuilding is fussy, due to the small space provided for the coil to fit.

I like my genesis style rebuildable and AGA-T RBA best, now that I've had a few goes at fashioning stainless steel wicks and coils. It takes some practice, but they run trouble free for a very long time once they're set up properly. If you don't want to fuss with RBA's, the VVV tanks are the next best IMO.

... but cartos feel like the way to go. Can anyone give me a quick briefing on punching? Not sure I understand what it is/adds?

If you decide to use a cartomizer in a tank, the juice in the tank needs a way to get into the cartomizer. This is accomplished with tiny holes made in the lower end of the cartomizer.

These can be purchased with the holes already in them, which is the simplist way to go, only a little more in cost. They also offer you consistancy carto to carto. I recommend using these initially. Once comfortable with the cartotank experience, get a punch tool and punch your own should you wish.

Should you decide to punch your own, you will need to acquire a carto punch tool. This process has a learning curve all in itself. Too large of a hole and the carto will flood and you also run the risk of deforming the carto making it too warped to enter into the tank, or even puncturing the air hole in the carto. Too small of a hole and the liquid can not enter the carto fast enough to keep up with your vaping:

The vision mini nova arrived and.... it burns my throat, its weird, but vaping isn't pleasurable with it, even if I hold the vapor in my mouth for a bit before I inhale it.

The burning taste is probably because it's not wiking correctly, my mini nova did this and it tastes awful. I got mine working for a day or so after taking it apart, fiddling with the wicks, changing the atomiser etc. My Vivi Nova worked out of the box but again only for a few days. They are both sitting full of juice in my 'broken, can't be bothered to fix it' box.

Strange thing is everyone else seems to rate them highly, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I have a couple of Kanger T3's which are working great for me, and I have a couple of Ego Visions that don't leak too much (gone through about 8 of those so far).

I got a rebuildable vision ce5 v3 clearomizer which, compared to other knockoff version or sealed unit types, it works just fine. It doesn't leak at all. No juice on the battery terminal at all or anywhere else. try a vivi nova 2.5. Tanks though like ego tanks don't hold much liquid really and they tend to sweat a bit, the vapour tends to condense then leak out onto the battery terminal. Well in my experience it did. seriously though get the ce5 or the vivi.

Lastly, what's a setup that uses a "tank" - I think a tank+something might be a non-leaky resolution to my clearomizer crisis :)

Thanks!

I've started to change over to a Carto/Tank system. It uses a pre-punched carto and also a tank to keep it filled. I've got 8 tanks so far. 6 from IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us! and also two from Phiniac. Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks You can buy pre punched cartos from several different vendors. no fuss no muss. I've used these with great results.ElectronicStix.Com · 510 Punched Cartomizers Lots of people on the forum like these which I just ordered.IKV 510 Platinum Punch! Cartomizer STD The only other thing I use is a vivi nova. Both mini and the large 3.5ml. and also a local vendor has some that are called an H3. Never a problem with any of them. I wear a class A or B uniform and never had any leaks. Knock on wood.
