Fasttech will take a while to get to you but if you dont mind the wait... slowtech is a good choice.

PEGASUS CLONE!
Oh my goodness is she good.
most popular. Its amazing. Watch you dont lock too tight ... but oh its so good.
Hits like a train.
Make sure you get good batteries. Nothing with fire in the name.
Purple Efests, 35amp (Which are rated at 20 amp) VTC, Samsung, those ones are okay.

Good charger, this can be on FT too, Intellicharger is decent. make sure you get american plug(Or the one compatible with wherever you live)

Just an FYI. With a mech mod the only way to "fine tune" your vape is to change your coil (or build a new one). With a high vv/vw regulated mod (and its buck/boost circuitry) you can "fine tune" with a push of a button. On a mechanical mod your voltage drops as you vape. With a regulated mod this does not happen. Your first hit is just as good as your last hit.

The only mech mods I really enjoy vaping with these days are my Reos mods. All my other mechanicals require too much upkeep (for me) and I don't like the fall off in performance as the battery is discharged.

That said, if you are going to purchase your first mech mod I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader (if you are going to be rebuilding).

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding battery safety & Ohm's Law are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Once you have battery safety, ohm's law and other necessary knowledge, I suggest looking at the Stingray X. Either the 1:1 Fasttech clone or the SXK version from Focalecig. Stainless steel exterior, copper interior, magnetic switch, floating 510. Quite possibly the best clone available for a beginner, and it has both a top cap and a hybrid adapter for when you're more learned. Tubes included fit 18350, 18490/18500, 18650 batteries so most popular sizes available. I went with the SXK version, but the fasttech clone gets great reviews as well. Do some youtube research no matter WHAT you decide to buy, just to see what you're going to get.

Yeah basically Im going to find which one/ones interest me the most and research those specific ones. Thats how I work. As far as battery safety and upkeep, maintenance, I enjoy that stuff ( I worked with electronics in the Navy). I have used quite a few different regulated mods, thats what most people I know have. I understand that mechs take more work but I like fiddling and such.

Be careful of hybrid top caps and mods without locking rings, especially those with an exposed button if you are going to pocket it or toss it in a bag.
If you are not planning on pocketing your mod you can get a flagship for $130 (authentic) which I've been eyeballing for some time.
My mechs are all hybrid connectors (positive post on atty makes direct connection to the battery) as I prefer the very short setups for my mechs.
With mechs pretty much the only safety you have is your brain, so be sure and use it when messing with your mechs!

Well then these will be right up your alley, constantly cleaning, scuffing, tweaking, springs, pins,locking ring your gonna be in heaven

FT is a great source for mods, attys and parts. I've been buying from them the past two years and have been very pleased with every item purchased to date. Just be sure to read each item's discussion posts, great source of info. I currently use the Stainless Steel Astro for RDAs and the Kato box for RTAs. Beautiful, inexpensive and - extremely - durable. Preferring mechs over regulated, I like that a full performance mod/atty can literally sit in the palm of my hand. The Kato box with a full size inserted RTA is scarcely bigger than two batteries sitting side by side, aesthetically pleasing yet discrete.

I've only got two mechs, both from FT. My first was the GP paps clone (labeled as brass/stainless mechanical mod), and I like it a lot, overall.

What I don't like is adjusting 510 pins for battery rattle; it just makes switching toppers annoying.

For that reason, and because of its general modest stature, I got a copper SMPL from Fasttech (the one with tons of 5-star ratings, I think it was $20.89) and it rocks beyond imagination. It's a direct-to-atty mod, super short, recessed button with no locking ring (my paps is stuck unlocked, by the way) barebones mech. It's so easy to use and suffers little voltage drop at rather low resistances.

It gets grimy fast and turns my hand green, but I'll only buy SMPLs and Reos from now on, I think.

They are all just battery tubes not any clones that are going to out way eachother or have less drop or hit harder.
Have you tried a regulated mod ?
Beg to respectably differ here ....
Indeed they are all just battery tubes. But by design, materials, & construction, many have less voltage drop than others and hit harder, some use hot springs on the button while others use magnets each with their pros & cons, some have floating pins, others adjustable, while others have hybrid caps each with pros & cons, brass, copper, or ss each has pros & cons, some have good venting while others could be considered a potential pipe bomb, & last but not least, the looks & aesthetics of any particular mech. Yes, depending on one's personal desires, certain mech mods will out-weigh others.
