Okay...This is what I have learned.

After adding all of your ingredients to your bottle, shake well.
Then shake some more.
Keep shaking.
And still shake some more!

When I first started I shook my bottles for maybe 30 seconds tops, set them on the kitchen counter and shook them at most a couple of times a day for maybe 15 seconds each. This is NOT good enough!

It would take a week to get rid of that just mixed chemical smell/taste.

The last batch I made, I shook to death the first 24 hours and then sampled. They all tasted good,(not great yet) but had absolutely no chemical taste. They were not perfect at that point, but I can tell that the steeping time has been greatly reduced.

And yes, some flavorings mix better than others. I couldn't really tell you which ones unfortunately.

Good luck!

I've been making my own for over 1 1/2 years and I've never shaken it that much and I've never had a chemical taste unless the flavoring had it to begin with. Those flavorings I just don't use. If you shake it too much you can damage the flavor molecules and that will effect the taste. VG heavy mixes need more shaking than PG. I shake mine for about 15 seconds after I make it and then each time before I use it. I also gently shake each flavoring before I add it to my mix.

I don't steep my juice for days or weeks. I screw the lid on tight and place them in a drinking mug full of hot (not boiling) water from my teapot and leave it until it cools.

Now I read a post tonight from poster #2 (rkayw) on another thread that I like the idea of, and that is letting your flavorings only steep together a little first, then adding your base on top of it. I think I'll try that tomorrow.

I don't shake the devil out of my juices, I gently shake them. I have read a post recently of a member putting his/her's in the clothes dryer to shake.:laugh: If I were going to go to extremes, it would prolly be the washing machine instead of the dryer because of the spin cycle, - another benefit would be the hot water bath.

But, FWIW, I would never go to those extremes.:2c::)

p.s. I just remembered another post. Some guy straps his to a vibrator thingy that you put around your waist to shake the fat off your tummy. And yet another stuffs his in his pocket and does jumping jacks.

EDIT: Here ya go, read this thread. Bring kleenex, you'll laugh hard.
