Oh! you don't know where?

At the top of the new members forum.

Ok seriously:

I have been spending a lot of time today in the new members forum, answering question and whatnot and I was amazed by the amount of brand new members says things like: Just got this x mech with this y rba and I am diving into this without any knowledge whatsoever.

So...

I would like to see a sticky called something like: WARNING new rba users read this before attempting anything.

And then direct them to basic knowledge about battery safety and whatnot. Maybe Badtitude's blog about the subject or something.

well I have rebuilt a ton of my clearo heads in the last 3 months. Done a ton of homework on the subject. Just now starting to shop for a RBA after a couple of months of good luck with my octopus RDA.

How long we have been vaping isn't always a good indicator.

Though I do agree if they do not do their homework on the subject they shouldn't be anywhere near a real rebuildable.

I agree with the OP. There's certain basic knowledge that a vaper should have before they get into RBAs. Questions and comments like, "What's the difference between 30 and 28 gauge kanthal?" and, "My 0.3 ohm coil fires with the 18350," worry me...

Since those questions were totally greek to me, I guess I'd better stay away from RBAs. LOL!!

I think it's great that relatively new vapers are branching out, trying new things. The problem is their total lack of knowledge on the subject matter. Unfortunately, this can easily be a case of what you don't know CAN hurt you and others.

If you think it's bad in the new members forum go to a Facebook vaping group page or better yet reddit. The lack of valid information and presence of downright bad information is astounding.

Totally agree that warnings are great.

Also, I'd like to be able to have a conversation with a vaper about standard stuff if for nothing else than comparison purposes! If you don't know about 'normal' hardware, how can you discuss the other stuff? What frame of reference do you have?

I started building mods in month two or three. This was after the (what was back then) usual progression of cig-a-like->eGo->mods+DIY. Still, I wouldn't have traded the experience of the non-mech non-RBA stuff for anything!!!!

It's NOT about "if you can". It's about common ground and different experiences and variety. You won't be able to relate to other normal-stuff e-cig users either. And then people spend all their time popping into threads with "Get a ____ mech mod and an ____ RBA" advice to complete newbies because they think it's cool. I know PV advice is subjective, but .....there's a lot of people out there that NEVER EVER want to wind their own coil! (And some may not be able to for whatever reason).

And the vape stores seem to be doing a lot of this too going by the threads I see here. At least they have a chance at talking about it more with the customer.

Defintely agree with this. anyone starting out with these devices needs an adjustment to their thinking ;).

I moved to mechs and RBA's after a couple of months after the ego's, vamos, kanger T3's, clearos, cartos, tanks etc. For me it was about being in control of my vape becasue I got mixed results from the other methods. If an ego and T3 did it for me I would probably still use them. However, moving between the stages, I did a LOT of research over a number of forums so I had at least a rudimentary understanding of what I was doing. Now it's a fun thing too.

And to be fair to the vape stores and the people making recommendations:

It's not uncommon for a newbie to come in and ask "What's the absolute best e-cig™ because ...blah blah blah...I don't do anything that isn't the best...blah blah blah...best...blah blah...best ....blah blah...best. best. best. (best)"

And they get exactly what they asked for. But they MAY not be ready for it. Kind of like giving your kid that's just learning to drive a formula-one race car, or some such analogy.

There's no one best. More like "what's appropriate?". I don't blame em for asking...particularly in the generic sense...but I think we should put cautions in our answers or refer them to that sticky the OP was discussing.

Welp, I'm one of those guys. Went through a drawer full of cartos, clearos and various other Chinese junk and now on a VAMO & smok rsst. My first mesh wick & 30 ga coil came to a nice and cozy 1.8 ohm and its been absolutely sublime! This is all in 10 days. Hehe.

My point is the intel on this epic site IS THERE. I searched and read, lather wrince repeat. Maybe it would be effective to simply remind folks to SEARCH first?

Think About it - If they are asking those type questions, They are not looking for advice/warnings anyway.
How many people do you think actually read most of the stickies?

Even if it was a read requirement for joining ECF people would scroll down and click Accept.

Sum it up in one word - Darwin:facepalm:

Get into the thread, Do not support the insanity - Teach instead and hope a few listen.
