Still don't have the knack

I've been playing with my Joye 510s for about 3 weeks now and I still can't seem to find a consistent method for vaping. It's seems like I am constantly fiddling with them to get the flow to the atty correct.

I am currently working with the ADM mod using the pen spring and polyfil plug because that, so far, has given me the best results. Still, I was frustrated today when I took 2 e-cigs with me on and outing and it seemed like both were not really working all that well.

Is it normal to have to constantly fiddle? Blowing out the attys and priming them a lot? IS there a point where I will find the right balance of this and that and not have to fiddle all day?

I did not last very long with the mini e-cig. Mine was not a true 510 but was some kind of 510 knockoff.
It seemed that sometimes it worked great and others it did not, and I got juice in my mouth or I got a burnt taste off the atty.
I bought a High Voltage mod and have not looked back. I always get vapor, and have no more problems. I gave up trying to fill the carts and modify them. I just drip the juice straight onto the atty.

Hopefully someone with more 510 experience will jump in and assist you. A lot of people swear by them. I know a guy at work who has been using the 510 for 7 or 8 months now and loves it.

Mets - I recently got some fluval so I'll be trying that out but most of the time now I just direct drip. I fnd it consistent in vapor, TH and flavor over any filler I have tried.

The local petsmart can't understand it but their stock of blue foam jsut goes as fast as they get it I just kept quiet on why that might be and bought the fluval

Actually, no, this is not normal behaviour for a 510. I use Fluval and straw and I blow them out them maybe every week or so, a bit more often maybe, but not much. And mine work absolutely fine.

Try putting as little polyfill into the cart as possible, it's fairly amazing how little you actually need to stop the liquid from running out.

I've had my 510 for about six weeks and, although it's getting better, some days it just doesn't seem to work all day, then without explanation it starts working like a champ in the evening. There seems to be some voodoo involved, but subtle changes in technique also make a difference. Just try holding it level, long, easy draws. I sometimes get impatient and suck the hell out of the thing in frustration. When I calm down and take it easy it works better.

Also, different juices make a huge difference. I have some cheap dekang juice that blows tons of vapor, and some very tasty (ahem) juice that doesn't produce very much at all.

I mixed up a batch of about 80/20 glycerin and distilled water that I drip to clear out my atty. It produces TONS of vapor, and it's kind of nice and refreshing by itself, even with no nic and no flavor.

Oh, and I mostly use a nice little 3.7v box mod I put together. It works much better than stock 510 batteries, and, after using an atomizer on that for a while, makes the atomizer work much better on the stock batteries again. Haven't tried 5v yet, but it's on my todo list.

If you want something less fiddly, maybe try a Vapor King/kr808d-1. My wife has one and it is a very nice unit. Good taste and not nearly as fussy or messy as the 510. I'm thinking of picking one up for myself as a running around unit.

Actually, I have taken to dripping direct at home. It's just easier. However, I don't want to really mess with that when I'm out and about. (especially on my breaks at work) That's why I'm currently using the ADM mod I mentioned. It has worked okay so far but I don't trust it yet.

What is the actual brand name for the blue foam? Fluval? I may try that as the plug in my ADM.

I guess I need to read up on the battery mods. I saw the site for the chuck but I don't have $80 to invest right now.

Thanks for the tip on vaping with the plain vg/distilled water mix. I will try that too!

A 510 on a mod tastes noticeabley different from one on stock batteries, be it normal, mega or eGo ones. Sharper, something quite a few people don't like.

I use the spring mod in mine also, it's the only thing that has kept me using it LOL! If you are having to blow out the atty, I am assuming that you are flooding it. Make sure your liquid isn't "puddled" on the top of the polyfil. If you are having problems with your liquid getting to your atty, then you probably have too much polyfil in it. They say you can cut your prefilled carts polyfil into 3 equal sections to put on top of the spring, but I find that to be too much. I cut those 3 sections almost in half. It doesn't take very much of it.

if you are handy with a soldering iron, have a drill or dremel, and understand basic electronics (or can follow a tutorial) (or know someone who's skills you can call on) go to MadVapes and watch the tutorial and order some parts to make your own box-mod. His prices seriously can't be beat. (I built three with verycool color-changing leds, for under $50, and had spare parts left over)

If you want to stay with an off-the-shelf minicig type model then I'd recommend a M401. The atomizer isn't enclosed in metal, lasts much longer, wicks much better, and the battery life blows a 510 away. I've gone thru three in 6 months, and zero atomizers.

Do you get a slightly burnt taste when the polyfil is dry? Maybe I'm using too much. I'll try cutting back. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I went to look at MadVapes and, despite being pretty handy with tinkering, I'm thinking that's probably beyond my electrical skills...

What you can do to try cheaply if you'd like a mod, get yourself a KR8 or 901 battery and an adapter, heaven-gifts has those for like 2$. And since you can use those with a 901 atty in turn, which is also an interesting device, much mellower in taste (too mellow for many for me, but as it happens to be with taste, those differ), and the 510 carts fit it, too, it's not too bad an investment.

I tried my 510 on a KR8 battery. Solved the mod question for me - I definitely don't want one. Far less of a question anyway, since the eGo came out.

We need to solve your cart problem first, though. Here is what I do:
The white stuff is Jewel Aquarium filter pads; cheaper than Fluval. You can also use about half of the original filling.

I've had similar problems with my 510 after about ten days. Little vapor most of the time, some gurgling and flooding. I'll take off the cart, blow out the atty then tailpipe it till it turns burny - good vape, bad taste for about two puffs. Then I put on a full cart and - no vape. If I try to direct drip I drown it quickly. It's been a pain in the .... and I've wasted quite a bit of juice.

One thing I've found is that I have to shake it from the battery end to move the juice out of the bottom of the atty back to the mesh. Constantly shaking I can get good vape till it dries out, then I turn it around and shake from the cart end (gently or else the juice leaks out the atty/batt threads) then shake it back down from the batt, *then* vape. I'm cutting my own juice - 24ml PG Marlboro with 40% VG and 10% water. Maybe it's getting too thick?

that is excellent pics,i just have been using 18 guage wire plastic,and stock cutdown packing.im gonna try your method.is your straw that high?in the cart.looks flush.yes to the o-p.im going crazy trying to figure out a way to get consistant vape!
