DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!
I am no longer totally a "newbie", have been vaping for at least 6 months, but I STILL get confused and cant make heads nor tails of some of these posts because of the model numbers referenced.

Anyone else?

I just wish sometimes that it would be as simple as...."mini" or "penstyle" or "cigar".....

I wish there was a quick reference guide somewhere to put it plain and simple. I know someone did this once for me here, but cant seem to find the old thread, but that's besides the point, it sounds like there are even more "models" out there now...so more numbers being thrown around.

ARGH!

thanks for the links...
but i still dont understand why model numbers are used instead of just mini, penstyle, cigar...so much easier!

Most people use the model numbers because there are multiple versions of each type of e-cig. You may have a penstyle, and that guy over there might have a penstyle, but if you have two different models, the parts, including carts, won't be interchangeable, accessories for one won't work for the other (passthroughs, etc), chargers may be different and not work between models, so on and so on.

sorry for jumping in here (and I'm probably aging myself) BUT....

this reminds me of 1st getting involved with computers (in 1980!)

there was absoultely NO consistency to anything.....newbies had not clue what was what....

fast forward 20 years and everyone now has a PC....cuz the jargon is gone....

I believe folks will be comfortable with these when they can compare apples to apples....NOT des901 (v.1.1.....disposable this....EXCEPT that.....etc....etc)

I know its neat too have a "jargon"......but it IS very confusing (and I've been looking at this for 6 months)

I believe folks would be more inclined to invest (and I stress that word) in these if they were a bit more comfortable in knowing that IF they bought this particulat model that the parts would work with this other model.....and so on...

Remember....these are a regular cigarette replacement.....something most folks can walk to the nearest convenience store to buy.....

when I first showed mine to (my VERY technical friends)...and started explain the multitude of options ......their eyes glazed over.....

would be nice to have some standardizing in the industry (which I think is crucial to our mutual success).....

back in the day there were over 200 major computer manufacturers (retailers....etc).....how many do you see now?

Folks interested in these want to know that they can buy them....get replacement pieces.....recommend them.....from a variety of sources........standardiazation is key...

just my thoughts....

I agree with Dude. Too many manufacturers and not enough quality assurance. It would be great to see some consolidation start to happen, which could be conceivable if the Chinese economy continues to slide with the rest of the world. Would be even better to see tighter quality standards and more technological innovation.

Surely, they can design atomizers that use less electricity, produce more vapor, and last longer. Surely, they can make even smarter and longer lasting batteries, too. I'd love to see a model that has enough dripping capacity to put 5 or more drops in, as well as more sensitive and faster vacuum detection.

I've love to see where things are at in 5 years. If these were PC's, I'd place the current models to be about... say... Windows 95. Still waiting for the Windows XP or Mac OS X of e-cigs...

LOL...I'm a dot overuser too. Always have been. I rather feel the opposite of the OP. I'm a newbie and have spent the last few days spending most of my time reading this forum and the various retailers sites. I'm coming to appreciate most the retailers who DO use the model numbers so that I feel confident I'm comparing apples to apples. For instance, I just bought a Smoke 51 starter kit. I believe there are a couple other names...bloog, for instance...that are the same thing as far as being the combo att/cart style, but I'm not entirely sure that they're literally "interchangeable" without an actual model number to compare.

I'm also looking at adding a dse901 to the soon-to-be collection, but just read there's a "new" em901. So...guess I'd want that one, but if I buy additional atomisers (that were shipped to work with the dse) will they work with the em's, etc. etc.

Nah, these aint to 95 stage yet, I'd say they are past The commodore or Trs80 stage, probably t1000/apple 2 (maybe as far as was win 3.1) but there is still a long way to go in terms of reliability and efficiency.

I'd vote for Mac OS X models - I don't want to be vaping when the thing bluescreen's on me ;)

But yes, I cannot wait to see how things develop and improve.
