Still ok to use coils when they look like this?

Sitting on a D2. Is that a NI or TI coil? Do not Dry Burn either. you would expose the wire to to much heat and cause a dangerous coating to form.
You can carefully Bump heat the coils, but no orange hot. Brass wire brush helps.
Simpler to just replace.

If Kanthal or Nichrome - Dry Burn is okay.

Just replace it and be done.

There's no need to replace a coil just because it's gunked -- that's what dry-burning is FOR! I don't re-coil until the coil *breaks*.

Your right there isn't a need to but its a great excuse to try building a new fancy coil. something Im just as addicted to.

I'm not afraid of coil-building, but it doesn't thrill me. I do it when I have to; no more. Fancy coils don't vape any better than plain ones.

I agree 100% to the above. I've purchased (I can't make the fancy coils yet) coils in store, and I've made my own, and haven't experienced a noticeable difference. I'm rolling 24g kanthal at roughly 1/8" and seeing around 0.3 ohm every time.
Not a fan of sub-ohming, kills my battery and have to wait for the atty to cool down.

Oh, you haven't tried the reverse clapton hydra dragon spit tail stovetop build then...

wait.. that's just a micro coil.. :)

To be honest, Me neither.. I have twisted some, and made a clapton myself.. but I still use regular micro coils. The fancier it is, the more nooks and crannies are there to gunk up. It's all about surface to wick area... the ejuice doesn't care how pretty your coils are, just how much juice is touching coil.

what kind of dangerous coating?
TiO2?? Ni carbonate??
TiO2 is about as toxic as spring water, Ni carbonate requires an almost pure CO atmosphere to form

Of all the coils I have built I tend to agree with you. I mostly build now are simple coils out of SS316L. So I bought 5 sizes, 50m rolls of SS316L. CHEERS!

1 MORE reason for hating the new products (the temp-control mods, the temp-control coil-heads) this is total BS, that these vendors would subject-us to metals that can potentially be neurotoxic or toxic to the organs of the body. Such complete & total BS. remind me, again, WHY we support TC as a community?

Andria- I have never, ever, built a "fancy" coil, in-fact I usually build run of the mill 30-gauge spaced coils. From what I've heard, most "trick" coils are for looks. They are for Instagram. However, I have-heard many a time, that Clapton-Coils, specifically, DO have the potential to make-better the vape.. This is because the Clapton-Coils actually HOLD e-liquid, within their nooks & crannies, which can help vaporize more e-liquid per-hit, especially on a fresh-drip, and they can increase the amnt of time your RDA will vape before you have-to redrip, due-to the added capacity within the coils themselves. Claptons, however, can suffer from getting gunked-up from the inside-out, & when that happens there is no saving them, unlike a coil without nooks & crannies to hold more e-liquid. IDK this is ALL hear-say, but I dig it. I can definitely believe this sh**, it makes sense to me from a physics stand-point, lol.

IDK I've built coils since we began building coils, so, pre-built coils are a welcome sight for me! I love my 10-pk of pre-built 1ohm coils, which i got from MyVaporStore. They ROCK, n they make rebuilding as easy and putting a pair of pants on Forrest-Gump, & then I'm on my way. ;) Love em. Why would any n00b to vaping/n00b to rebuilding, avoid RDAs, with these pre-built coils available everywhere? I'll tell you 1 thing- There's plenty of RDA clones for 4-5 bucks these days. WELL-BUILT RDAs for $4-5!! For that price, WHY buy a clearomizer? WHY buy a regular 510 dripping atty? (lol) WHY buy a tank that relies solely on replacement coil-heads, right? If you can thread two wires through two tiny holes, pull em tight on each-side & screw-down two philip's-head screws, wet the end of a strip of cotton-ball and thread it through the coil till snug. (be sure it tapers slightly thicker toward the middle) & you may as-well forget the replacement coil-heads & begin using rebuildable tank atomizers, right? (with easy build-decks) I mean with a simple instructions-booklet & 5 prewrapped coils in each RBAtank box-kit, they could become very popular....

I'm more experienced with tossing my coil/cotton every 2, 3, or 4 days- because I used 30g kanthal for almost my entire-time vaping/ my entire-time rebuilding atomizers... WHY? Because 30g came w/ the tanks and RDAs and because I read that 30g can use your e-liquid more efficiently, using less e-liquid while delivering the same amount of vaper per-hit as a 24-26g kanthal build. (this is what I've HEARD!) sooo, i have enjoyed my 30g builds for many-a-year now... it is only this year (late-last-yr) that I adopted 26g coil builds, 1st due-to my curiosity w/ how easy it is to WORK-WITH the 26g compared-to the 30g (which is certainly not always easy to work with, lol) and I wanted to experience microcoils!! haha, i mean, I recently (starting early last year) began making 30g micro-coils w/ my coil-master... But before that, it was spaced-coil builds. So, the 26g microcoils are truly fun & satisfying to make, to me. I'm really enjoying my prewound-coils, but I will never stop building my own! it's too rewarding.

Yeahhhh... I never got that memo when I started building. I was scrapping coils and all every weekend, and rebuilding/wicking. Needless to say, I got a lot of practice wrapping, and can successfully do it in my reclining chair with no flying shrapnel :D:D:D

I've learned to just dry burn them now though :)
