Oh, you haven't tried the reverse clapton hydra dragon spit tail stovetop build then...

    wait.. that's just a micro coil.. :)

To be honest, Me neither.. I have twisted some, and made a clapton myself.. but I still use regular micro coils. The fancier it is, the more nooks and crannies are there to gunk up. It's all about surface to wick area... the ejuice doesn't care how pretty your coils are, just how much juice is touching coil.

Yep! I go thru different variations, certainly; I always use 29ga, it seems to hit more of my sweet spots than any other size wire, but I've progressed thru 8 wraps, 7 wraps, 9 wraps... 7/64 or 3/32. Currently delighted with 9 wraps, 3/32, and as close to a "contact" coil as makes very little diff, though I used spaced-wrap coils for a LONG time. When I first got my iPV Mini, I was thinking that it didn't step down, which is why I went with the 9 wraps, to wind up around 2 ohms, 2.1, something like that; I've since learned how to put it in PWM mode to make it step down so the wattage corresponds with that of my other mods, but I'm sticking with the 2 ohm coils even so; they really do enhance battery life (not that 9 or 9.5 watts drains it very fast!), and the extra couple wraps give me slightly more vapor without it being so vaporous that it bothers my asthma. :thumb:

The only "fancy" coil I've tried is the "bowed-in" (thx Boden!) or arched coil; contact at the bottom right over the airhole, spaced at the top; it does improve the flavor a little, but they're kind of a pain to make, so lately I haven't been bothering to try and get them arched.

Yeahhhh... I never got that memo when I started building. I was scrapping coils and all every weekend, and rebuilding/wicking. Needless to say, I got a lot of practice wrapping, and can successfully do it in my reclining chair with no flying shrapnel :D:D:D

I've learned to just dry burn them now though :)

Heh, I still get the flying shrapnel; I put a coil in my new Magma yesterday, and when clipping the leads after it was fastened down, one of them went flying... somewhere. But nobody comes into the kitchen barefoot, they know better. :D

As for all this Clapton business... he's a hell of a guitarist. :D Seriously, my juice is King of the Gunk Monsters, so I try to find ways to reduce gunking, not make it worse! :D If I could vape a straight wire, I'd try it! But there wouldn't be anyplace to put the wick... ;)

I used to have a lot of shrapnel but with a dog in the house who eats anything that's not nailed down I had to fix that issue. So now when I am clipping I hold the end of the piece I am clipping with tweezers, haven't had any since I started doing that.

Not a fan of sub-ohming, kills my battery and have to wait for the atty to cool down.

Actually, it's not the ohm of the coil that kills the battery but the wattage you are using, the lower the ohm the faster the ramp up.Clapton coils dry burn clean (with water) just like spaced coils and yes they do enhance the wicking and flavor production, spaced nickle being the worst............

Have a picture of the actual dirty coil? Lol

Thats nothing, just slows down the heatup time.

Ive had em look like they're coated in brownie crumbles lol.

Dry burn the coil and rewick and if you must use iy for now that coil will still work fine.

It depends - there are people who think differently about this or prefer to be just cautious even if we don't know the exact truth yet:
Dry-burning metal coils: is it a good thing?

There are some people who will complain if hanged with a new rope. And there are idiots who use hand sanitizer every 5 minutes, allowing their immune systems to atrophy while bacteria are pumping iron and getting more resistant every day. I pay no attention to Chicken Littles. Let them go live in a closet with filtered air, pure spring water, and kale -- they deserve it! ;)

Well ... I am for informed choices when not quite sure about something - same as with Diketones. Without judging about people who choose the other option ...

I'm a little cautious of the truth / dry burning these Cigarette Ingredients | R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

That's just what I mean -- I spent 39 yrs inhaling the smoke of every chemical BT could cram into a cigarette; I'm dead certain that NO MATTER what I do with my vape, I'm 100% better off than when I was smoking. I don't let my wicks go dry, so I don't get dry hits; if the flavor falls off/gunk builds up, I dryburn my coils to get rid of it, and if I start tasting something odd, or just no flavor, then I know it's probably time to build a new coil to replace the old one.

My DIY is 30% flavoring, but I've made conscientious efforts to insure that my ingredients are diketone-free. Could there be other dangerous chemicals in them? Of course there could be, but I can't worry about "what ifs" -- if/when we know for sure about other potential dangers in flavoring, I'll strive to minimize the risk, but I'm adamant that no risk in vaping comes anywhere close to the risk of smoking.

I'm nearly 55 yrs old; if I have another 30 yrs, I'll feel very blessed, and the fact that I no longer smoke means I might actually survive another 30 yrs -- or possibly not; my father died of lung cancer when he was 66, so the genetics are there, for a pretty substantial risk of cancer. At least I am no longer greatly increasing that risk with every puff of smoke. But the fact remains, I'm gonna die of SOMETHING; nobody gets outta here alive. If I go live in that closet with the purified air, spring water, and kale, it will make the rest of my life seem infinite; I'd rather enjoy what remains of my life, and not worry too much about whatever eventually puts an end to to -- because something definitely will.
