thanks. i thought it was the side ports cuz i tried to pierce the middle port first and it seemed like it was not penetratable but will try again...maybe just needs more force?

mouth end after you pop the 2 pieces off you stick the needle through the middle hole to fill it.

Yeah new carto's are sealed you need to puncture it the first time, if your needle is sharp it shouldn't be to hard, if your using a blunt needle just keep it straight when your pushing on it or you could bend it, a paper clip can be used too.

Depends on the carto not mine I use boge 510's easy to fill pull rubber cap drop let sit drop and puff.

They genuine Joye 510 cartos do not have to be filled with a syringe. I have found that they fill really easy just by flipping them over and dripping drops into the hole on the threaded end. On initial fill you drop about 20 drops in after that about 15 or 16. These things are great they work really well.

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. Brian5470 is absolutely correct that you do NOT -- repeat -- YOU DO NOT NEED A SYRINGE TO FILL A JOYE 510 CARTOMIZER!!!

It's the simplest thing in the world. Even if you have brand new empty Joye 510 cartomizers, you don't need a syringe, you don't need to pop off the mouthpiece and dig out that little barrier piece. All you need to do is hold it with the threaded end up at a slight angle like when pouring a soda or beer. Place a drop of your liquid on that center hole in the threaded end and watch it get sucked inside. Repeat with another 15 drops or so, maybe up to 25 if the liquid is thinner and/or if the carto is brand new and empty.

If you see juice starting to dribble out of the mouthpiece, it may be full, or it may be that you have it positioned in such a way that the juice is flowing into the air shaft leading to the mouthpiece. There are a few ways to prevent this, or to minimize it, and thus get more juice into the filler material and less into the mouthpiece.

#1: This takes less than a minute, start to finish: every 4 drops or so, stop dripping and give the carto 4-5 sharp taps on the table or something hard, as if tamping a cigarette. This forces the juice down into the filler and breaks up any air bubbles interfering with the flow. Before doing the next 4 drops, rotate the carto about 1/4 turn. This helps to distribute the juice flow a little more evenly, and if you are hitting that spot that leads juice into the mouthpiece, at least you'll only hit that spot 1/4 of the time.

#2: This is a one-time step I do with each cartomizer, and it only takes a minute or two, but it helps a LOT in preventing juice from running into the mouthpiece. Before starting to fill as in version #1 above, go ahead and pop off that mouthpiece and dig out the little barrier inside. Take a simple regular size paper clip and straighten out the outside loop so you have what looks like an elongate letter P. Insert the straightened segment of the paper clip inside the mouth end of the carto and slide around the inside wall, probing for the air shaft. When you find it, the wire will slide down inside the carto, down to the atomizer area near the threaded end, but inside the carto. The loop part of the paper clip will hold it in place. Now take something with a sharp tip, like a small screwdriver or even the end of another paper clip, and make a mark like an X on the plastic tube of the carto right above the metal tip and in line with the paper clip loop above it. This little scratch mark will now show you where the air shaft is when you are filling the carto from the metal tip. So you can now hold the carto with that X at the top, so any liquid you drip into the metal tip will flow down, away from the air shaft. Again, this is a one-time deal to mark where the air shaft is so for all future fillings, you know how to avoid dripping into the air shaft. Now you can fill as with version #1, but you don't want to rotate the carto, just keep that X at the top while filling. Now you can just hold it at a slight angle, X at the top, and drip in 4 drops, then tap several times, then another 4 drops, then tap, then repeat until you've gotten about 16-24 drops inside, or until you see signs that it's full.

510's you got are either Joyes or CE2's the CE2's would of had a plastic needle tip in the package but no syringe, so sounds like you got Joye's I think the condom method works on Joyes but I'll let someone who uses them confirm that. For using needles I always use the type with the removable needle, take the needle off to fill the syringe, some juice especially VG based is to thick for needles over 20 gauge.
I bought some of the genuine Joye cartomizers from Cignot a month and a half ago. I initially filled them using the condom method, then dripped through the threaded end to re-fill them. It worked great, I thought and way better than my atty/cart combo that I mostly use. I am going to order more cartos, but would like to try the Boge this time. Just not sure yet if they will work on my 510

I liked the Boges I got a few packs of them but I stopped using them after I tried the CE2's they work great and last a long time with alot less hassle, much easier to clean them out then ones with filler so my Boges kinda fell to the wayside.

I'm sure whatever you said above is actually easy to do, especially if I could see it done -- or if I was in the mood to read slowly, while holding a Joye 510 cartomizer in my hand, so I could see exactly what you're talking about. But I feel like I just read (skimmed through) a bunch of IRS instructions (which I usually understand with no problem, but some IRS instructions need to be read over and over sometimes). :)

Yes, Boge 510 soft cap cartomizers will work with any 510 battery. I'm still using some (probably will for about another week), but I've switched to KR808D-1 cartos most of the time (better flavor, better draws, more vapor usually). I might try the CE2s, but I haven't seen many good reviews of them yet.

I am all about making it easy and for the money the Boge are the easiest to deal with and work much better than an atty/cart combo IMHO maybe some of the CE2's and Joyes work a little better I am sticking with the Boge pop the cap fill and vape in 30sec.I consider them disposable but the mega I ve been using has lasted a week and still fires well just 10-15 drops to top off when the production drops and all is good. So $2 a week or less is fine with me.

Short attention span? What are you vaping?

Here's the EZ version: Hold carto with metal tip upward. Drip 16 drops of liquid into center hole. Vape.

That easy enough for you? Sorry I don't have a video cam here at work.:p

ok cool thanks so much for answering.
i keep reading about the boge's and CE2's etc....i have never ordered anything other than the mega eGo cartomizers because i want something that holds LOTS of ejuice....i use mega eGo cartridges and atomizers ONLY. i am going to give filling these eGo mega cartomizers a try, again.

Very cool thread and a TON of good stuff!! Thanks everyone!

Pretty new to this but my experience so far is...

Joye - Not too bad, real easy to fill. Last along time if you don't let it get too dry and the filler burns, yech! And plastic melts... at least it did for me on 2 of the 5 I tried. The first one was my bad, let it dry out way too much. Not sure about the second since I only got to fill it 2 times before it melted on the side. Still, it's nice to be able to take a couple of these vs. a ton of carts out and about.

Royal Smoker E2-r4 - Really like the thought of no filler to burn! But the horrible primer or whatever is in them is just wrong. I bought 2 five packs and ALL of them had this stuff all over the insides. Before you even use them you have to clean them (I boiled them) by removing the tip, washer, and filler plug. Don't get that filler plug in right or one of the ceramic pieces comes loose then so sad. Leave the plug out and it works ok, but leaks, yes even if you put the washer in flat side down. At least mine did...in my shirt pocket!! And they are A NIGHTMARE TO FILL anyway you try it!!
I just think they are more trouble than they are worth. Basically, E2's are a science experiment that you need a PHD in E2 operation and maintenance just to vape. Not ready for prime time IMO until the quality control gets better and an easier way to fill them comes along. Maybe R5's?

Boge - Only tried one from a friend but I'm still using it... A LOT... 2 weeks later. Filler hasn't burned, hasn't clogged yet, and real easy to fill. I did clean it once by running water in it and letting it dry. I do wish they made them in a XL size though so they'd hold a bit more juice! Anyway just ordered 3 five packs so we'll see! So far these seem the best for me anyway.

So, are there any other cartomizers I (we) should try? Thanks!

It's me (Deb). I know how to fill the Joye 510 cartos (your method, that is), so don't worry about the video cam. I was referring to your instructions in #2 above (the one-time step thing you described). Yes, since I don't have any of those type of cartos and won't be buying any, I just skimmed through that paragraph without really reading it (in other words, I had a short attention span but not because of what I'm vaping). Reminded me of reading IRS code and instructions (I'm an accountant/tax preparer, so I read IRS code and instructions very often), so I was just kidding with ya. :) ;) :)

So, are there any other cartomizers I (we) should try? Thanks!

I just ordered 11 five-packs of KR808D-1 cartomizers (two boxes are for a friend, three boxes stainless, and eight boxes black) from goodprophets at $7.49 per box, on sale right now. This will be enough to last me until about the end of April, when I'll be done preparing tax returns. I've found that I like the 808 cartos better than the Boge 510, because they produce more flavor and I think more vapor.

Also bought two more 900mAh eGo batteries, 9 adapters for 510-battery to 808/901-atomizer (to use the KR808D-1 cartos on all of my eGos, will have nine of them after I get this order), and 8 metal tapered drip tips. Gotta have adapters and drip tips for all the eGo batteries, ya know...and a couple are for my friend, so she can switch to using the KR808D-1 cartos when she's done with the two boxes of Boge 510 cartos.

ok, i finally tried an eGo mega cartomizer.....the draw is not easy. the flavor is not full, like it is with cartridges and atomizers. why is this? and if so, why do folks use cartomizers? i dont get it. p.s. i did put 2ml of ejuice in the cartomizer.

I totally disliked the eGo Mega cartos. The flavor is not good (it's like plastic), and they don't last long (about 1/2 hour compared to an hour using the Boge 510 or KR808D-1 cartos when vaping constantly) before getting that burnt taste and needing to be refilled (takes only about 1/2mL when refilling, even though it holds 2mL).

Don't compare the Mega cartos with any of the other kinds of cartos, which are completely different. I get the same flavor, vapor, and THs using the Boge and 808 cartos as I do when dripping with an atty and drip tip. But the Megas are worthless to me. Bought one box and won't buy any more.

So I bought an eGo about a month ago and haven't had an analog since (yay!) but I've only used the standard atomizer/cartridge setup I received in my kit since. Over the last few weeks I've read countless posts from people saying how great cartomizers are so I ordered some but I can't figure out how to use them.

---Bro, just use the condom method, go to youtube type cartomizer re-fill condom method..k
Basically you fill up the rubber ends (the long one with juice), then push down with the threaded end into the juice filled condom...er...rubber cover....and whala...no fuss no syringe...no problem..your cart will be full now.....then just rub it in your hand fast so the juice will end up on the outside part of the inner filler...will contact the heating element better...
Cheers!!!
