Ok so I've recently started to rebuild my kanger coils for my protank 2. With the stock coils I noticed I would get a burnt taste if I vaped over 6-6.5 Watts (with 2.5ohm coils), this is not all that surprising. But when I rebuild my coils (1ohm-2.2ohm) with kanthal wire (either .3mm or .5mm, using cotton or silica) I notice that I can set my wattage anywhere (3-15watts) and I never get any burnt taste. Don't get me wrong I'm not upset about this, I just don't understand why. Any information to help me make sense of this would be appreciated. Thanks for listening.

I build my coils to 2.2 and always check the resistance to make sure I have my 2.2-2.4 then either set my voltage to 4.2 or my wattage to 8 and thats my sweet spot. Since rebuilding my coils I can get flavor at higher settings as well but stay in the 7-8 range because thats where I seem to get the best flavor, vape, and longevity with my kanger2

I'm also using a VTR and really like it paired with the kanger and rebuilt coils...I wasnt crazy about the tank it came with..
I agree with you, I heard good things about the iClear 30s but was disappointed. It has decent vapor production but the flavor from it is really blunted compared to kanger coils imo. I'm kinda a bottom coil junkie when it comes to clearos. Plus I like to be able to rebuild coils and that's not possible with the 30s.

The stock Kanger heads use 32 g or smaller wire, I think, and the wraps are quite loose. With your rebuilt coils, I would bet the heat is spread across a much wider area, and the surface temperature of the coil area is less. Think of a stove burner pulling the same wattage across a 6" and a 12" area, which do you think would be redder?
