There are work-arounds.

For charging, use a big rubber band to hold the battery on the charger. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ion/502874-so-510-threads-my-twist-toast.html

For use with cartos and clearos, get an eGo to eGo adapter. DO NOT USE FOR CHARGING! EGO to EGO 510 Atomizer Adapter : L Js E-Smokes, Electronic Cigarettes

When the threads went bad on one of my eGos, I tried tapping the threads with this , but alas, it did not work.

Just tried it and it works great..Don't need the adapter as my battery also has a ego connection that I use to connect to my clearomizer

SB,

Hmmm. I wondered about the tap you linked to as well. I'm guessing that's for the 510 (inside threading) iow, could be used on just a 510 batt as well, right? Or supposed to if it worked..... :)

There's probably a thread on the threading of batts but I'm wondering if you've ever seen the pitch, etc. for the eGo threading? Not for the batt but for the Kanger 'connector base' for the T3S. My experience with them have been spotty. In a pack of 10, maybe 6 or 7 of them work and even some of those, I'll take an old dead eGo and force feed them onto the batt - gently as I can, but sometimes with more force than I'd use on a good batt :) And that does help, but the other 3 or 4 won't even start the threading. Wondered if you've seen that anywhere else around ECF. I don't wander around that much anymore   Or maybe just the pitch and 'which hand threading' needed for the eGo threads (inside of course). Hope that was clear enough lol.....

If you don't know I'll do a search but thought you might know since you went that way once.

eGo threading is 12mm x .5mm 12mm x .5 High Speed Steel Plug Tap: Hand Threading Taps: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

JSYK - The Taps you keep Linking to are called "Plug Taps".

What have is a Tapered end to make Starting the Thread Easier. But they Don't Work Very well when Trying to make Shallow Thread of 2 Diameters or Less.

For Something like a 510 Connector, you want a "Bottoming Tap".

Even with a Bottoming Tap, you might not have the "Reach" to clean out the Entire thread without Grinding the Bottom of the Tap off to Remove the "Starter Thread" on the Tap.

BTW2 - If you have an eGo (or something else that is 510 Threaded) die, Don't Throw it Out.

It is Nice to Screw a New Carto or Clearo or Whatever into the Dead eGo for the First time to Verify that the Threads on the New Carto or Clearo or Whatever are Cut Properly. And that Thread Easily.

Better to Find Out that a $2 Clearo just Wacked your Threads on a Dead Ego than Finding Out that it just Wacked the Threads on your $200 Mod.

BTW - If a Blind ID Thread is Truly Stripped, running a Tap thru it Doesn't Really do much. Because a Tap can Only Remove Material if Material Is Present.

If the Thread has bern Slightly Cross-Threaded, or is "Gummed Up", yeah... a Tap may Help. But on Stripped Thread, it Probably wont.

Yeah, I'm not looking to fix a stripped threading.

The only real solution I've found to this problem is to be proactive, don't strip the threads in the first place. Now days as soon as I purchase a battery I slap a beauty ring on it, screw on a 510 to ego adapter and then screw on another beauty ring to the adapter. Now screw down the top beauty ring as far as it will go (finger tight) and screw the bottom ring upward until the two beauty rings .... together tightly. This will make a strong joint where the adapter screws into the battery. Of course you have to take this getup apart occasionally to clean it. The connectors on most batteries (at least the cheap ones I buy) are made of brass or even copper with a silvery plating, Also if you buy cheap clone toppers (which I do) they can often have bad threads which will eat up the soft threads on your batteries. However the 510 to Ego adapters seem to be made of sterner stuff and I've never managed to damage the threads on any.

But back to your original problem. Somewhere on ECF there is a thread describing how to use pliers to squeeze a batter connecter out of round and make a flimsy and temporary fix. This coupled with the kissing beauty rings kluge will work fairly well until the next time you drop your rig on the floor, which I seem to do with great regularity. I've got one spinner that still works even though the hole in the connector looks more like a jelly bean than a circle.

The Ego to Ego adapter would probably be a more elegant solution but the link above given by "spaceballrules" generally shows sold out. Anyone know of an alternate source?
