Hello - I just wanted to introduce myself and possibly get some encouragement. I have been smoking 1 and 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day for 42 years and never thought I would quit! I actually bought my ego c almost a year ago, tried it -- didn't like it -- went back to my analog buddies! For the past 6 months I noticed a lot more coughing and wheezing than ever so 2 weeks ago I decided to find my ego and try again. I haven't had a real cigarette since and I am actually enjoying vaping more than when I tried it a year ago, but still struggling with some pretty strong cravings. The main thing keeping me from smoking is that I am no longer coughing or wheezing and feel so much better! I am just wondering how long it took some of you to actually prefer vaping to smoking. BTW I love this forum and am learning so much on here -- thanks!

I smoked for about 43 yrs. After I had been vaping for about 2 weeks, I decided to try one of my husband's analogs he'd left burning in an ashtray while he was out of the room. I thought it would taste soooo good! OMG! Was I ever wrong! It was the nasty tasting thing I think I've ever had! Put that thought of sneaking a smoke in occasionaly right out of my mind! I love vaping more than I ever did smoking. And I feel better, smell better and breathe better. Congratulations to you. And, enjoy the savings! (BTW, my hubby quit smoking and started vaping about 6 weeks ago...so proud of him!)

Thank you for your replies. Jriv - I'm just using the ego c with the refillable tank-like cartridge -- I don't know enough about this to even answer about setups (lol) -- I'm using 24 mg of nicotine. I do think I get a good throat hit and it really does help the cravings, but I still feel like I'd love to have a real cigarette.

Toytori -- congratulations to you! How long have you been vaping? I don't have any smokers around to steal from (my husband quit cold turkey 14 years ago) and I'm determined not to buy any analogs but I'd love to think that it would taste nasty to me!!

Thanks again to both of you!

Penny It does get easier. It has been a hundred and five days for me and I too smoked a pack and a half a day for nearly as long as you. My husband found it easier when he switched from a tobacco flavored liquid to a fruit flavored one. After that a cigarette tasted gross to him. I still craved one occassinally until the lazt two weeks. I think finding great flavors and a satisfying delivery system helps. I vape no nic one third of the time now.

16 year 1.5 pack a day smoker here.

The biggest difference for me between previous quit attempts and switching to vape was I decided from the start to not deny myself a cigarette when I wanted one. The day I got my first vape mail delivery (oh what a fun day :)) I had almost a full pack of smokes. After the first week I had finished my pack of smokes and had not bought any more. Smokes had become far less desirable than vaping the pair of eGo1000mah I had. Over the following couple weeks I went from smoking less than half a cigarette before I was grossed out and extinguished it to being repulsed by the odor of cigarette smoke. When I smell cigarette smoke now the last thing I want to do is find one, put it in my mouth and set it on fire.

During the whole transition I never (and still don't) denied myself a cigarette when I wanted one and when I did I always tried to remember to have a few vapes first. This, I am certain, is the biggest reason why vaping worked so well to help me say goodbye to my beloved backstabbing cigarettes.

You need some strong batteries with variable voltage and some stronger nic juice to power through the cravings. You can reduce the nic level later, for now, you need maximum relief from those cravings. I quit on a dime, my third attempt at vaping, a few months ago because the gear and juice finally got to a level that would satisfy my 35 year, 3 PAD habit. I first tried vaping in 2009 and the cigalikes did not cut it for me. I was a chain dripper, because that's all I knew it to be. Smoking was better than that. In 2011, I tried the little ego C batts with some 18 mg juice and I couldn't quite get there, but it was better. I didn't know about the internet action at that time and was using the mall kiosk guy to guide me. BAM, February 2013, online, twist batteries, 36 mg/ml juice for the first few weeks, now 24 mg/ml. I made it. Still not completely believing it, and can't quite explain why it worked this time so well, and believe me, I tried to seriously quit exactly 19 times before it took. Analogs are disgusting to me now. I've taken exactly one puff in the better part of 5 months, thinking it would be a treat....are you kiddin' me....thought I licked the ashtray by accident. Vaping is so much better than smoking ever was, and I know for a fact that most everyone on this forum feels the same way. Stick around, vape on, and join the crowd, this is Vaping Nirvana.

I've been smoking a pack+ a day for about 15 years. I decided it was time to quit and received my vape kit yesterday. I'm using 25mg nicotine juice to start with. So far so good, I haven't smoked an analog yet. I found myself thinking about smoking when I usually would (work, meals etc). I know it's only been one day but I found it easier to actually put myself in the situation when I would smoke (going outside, outback) and vape there rather than totally avoiding it.

I wish you the very best! :)

Mallory - thank you and congratulations! I do have to admit that it's getting easier. So far all I've tried is the tobacco flavors - I guess because I want to replace the taste of my analogs, but I might try some others soon.

Statistic - thanks and congratulations to you, also! Honestly, I told myself and my husband that if I really, really want to smoke I will just buy some cigarettes - so far the ecig and the way I feel is keeping me from buying any. My son was visiting last weekend and he smokes and I didn't even bum one -- also noticed how he smelled when he came back inside (yuck!). I hope that I can get to the point that you are at and I love your term about beloved backstabbing cigs!!!!

Bill -- Thank you and congrats to you, too! Where do you get 36 mg nicotine? Also, I don't know much about setups, etc. what does the twist battery do? Do you use the tobacco flavor or others? Hope I'm not asking too many questions!

Scott -- thank you and good luck to you, too! Maybe, I'll try going outside to vape since that's where I usually smoke.

I'm guessing you prob need to venture out and try a bunch of different flavors of e-juice. I don't think i would have been able to quit without finding that first flavor that i could vape all day long. Don't give up.

Also, I am a techy person and get into the modding, rebuilding and general ritual that vaping has become for me. It has really turned into more than just a way to quit smoking for me.

I went to a wedding recently and saw a bunch of people that i haven't seen in a while. I let a couple of friends that tried to quit already by vaping over the counter e-cigs (even ego setups such as yours) and as soon as they took a drag... it was almost always... "Holy... that is amazing... i could totally quit with that." It was just an ego twist with an evod. But, i really don't think you shouldn't under estimate finding the right flavors that you "enjoy". It can be a long journey, but once you find it... it's def worth it!

Twist is variable voltage ego battery. It applies variable power to your coil by twisting the bottom ring of the battery. This changes the wattage and heats up the juice more or less depending on how you like it. Highly, highly recommend getting one!

I have been ash free for 3 weeks or so. I smoked Swishers and my biggest problem was finding something I could like flavor wise. The tobacco flavors all tasted like garbage until I found the cheapest kit in existence.

Sams club had a Fin starter kit for $10. Their tobacco was not bad. That convinced me to give other flavors a try. I am still looking for the holy grail of tobacco, but I also found some other flavors and flavor combos that I really liked. Now I use the Fin kits to get my employees to try it. $10 is a great way to start considering the Njoys run $7.99 for a disposable that does not last a day. I did find the Njoy flavor was not bad, but I smoked mini cigars so it was not what I really craved.

I'm three weeks in, and had an analog today; My taste buds must still be out, because I could switch back and forth effortlessly.

I could as well when i first started. But once i found a few flavors and the right setup for me, i enjoyed it so much more than regular cigs that i could never imagine going back now.

You have to think about what it is about the real cig that is different or appeasing you more.

For me it was throat hit.

I was thinking about hitting some Boba's. I ended up getting some more flavors from Mt Baker. I think next week I will take the dive. So far the best I found was 4star General from MyFreedomSmokes and (after letting it sit for a week) Coumarin Pipe from Mt Baker. Neither tastes like a cigar, but for some reason they hit that crave spot. I even use another tank to mix a touch of butterscotch and red hot to the 4 Star General and it is really nice and smooth.

Thanks for the tip!
