This is my very first video tutorial of any kind ever, so be nice. It is not the best quality, as all I had to make the video was Quicktime X on my laptop. I am still waiting for my 14500 batteries and mosfet, and a few other parts to come in the mail. I got tired of swapping out batteries every few hours, and I found Gitmoe's Copper mod, and I immediately went to work. I am calling this a Stubby, because it is so short and basic. If this has been done before, I did not find it in the forums, and did not know.

Before anyone says anything about the battery I'm using, I know, I know...not the best, but its what I had readily available. Once I get all the parts in I will be building a full model properly.

Can't tell from the video, but make sure you vent the casing in case the battery decides to let go on you. Always vape safe and congrats on the copper. Post some updates as your parts come in

Thanks for the advice. The copper fittings aren't an extremely tight fit, so if the battery does go, it will be contained, but gases will be able to exhaust. I'm new to all this really, but so far its fun! I've been rummaging around my house for stuff I could use in a mod.

So far for a full sized Copper Im thinking of adding a port to plug in a charger(which could double as a PT when its plugged), and a mosfet for touch sensitive switch, not to mention giving it an iridescent color(patini).

My girlfriend is absolutely loving this ones small size, so I will be making one like this to fit a 14500 battery when they come in, and steampunking the look.

Thats a risky idea. Its better to vent the mod just in case. Its a decision you really don't want to regret. Pop a small hole in the bottom. Even though the fittings are loose it will still contain the gas expansion a lot more than if there is a vent hole. Plus the vent hole with direct any escaping gas away from your face and hand. Just a suggestion...

I hadn't thought about that...Good to know, doing it now. Is this something that should be worried about even with proper batteries such as these? The reason I ask is because I had thought of giving it a sort of slotted look, to shed some weight. However if slots all the way around would have the potential to allow the battery to basically explode in my hand, I think I'll not do that one.

If you're using a proper protected battery the chance of a total failure is really really low but always keep in mind you're relying on a protection circuit that is massed produced and in mass production there are always errors. This is one of those situations where its MUCH better to be safe than sorry. If you wanted to slot the barrel by all means go ahead. Personally I would make it look the way I wanted with no concern for battery failure and possible explosion. But Im the type of person to not really be paranoid about things like that. I built a few PVs that aren't vented at all and I've used unprotected batteries in them. But thats a risk Im willing to take. I would NEVER suggest anybody else put themselves in that situation. I will always spread the idea of being overly safe. Just because I would risk my own health or safety doesn't mean I think its a good idea for other people. In the end its entirely your decision.

hey dalton

gitmoe is right, better safe than sorry

when i was a kid, i had a firecracker go off in my hand, it was an awful experience

sometimes when i am using my mod, i remember that time

btw, i have a copper mod from atmosusa, it has about a 1/8 dia hole drilled dead center on the very bottom, it doesnt take away from the looks at all, as a matter of fact, i rarely notice it, but peace of mind is a good thing

enjoy and nice work !

Well once I get the parts and I build a regular sized model, I want it to be slotted. I think it will look good, and shave off a measurable amount of weight. I don't worry about that sort of thing much. However the shorter one is going to my girlfriend, so I have already put a hole in the end of it, just to be safe.

Thanks for the tips!

hmmmm... these batteries are not protected... but are good because of the high drain factor (at least for 510's... i think)... they are fairly safe from what i've read...

edit-
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...8-high-drain-vs-non-high-drain-batteries.html
for 510's (2.3ohms and lr 1.5 ohms) its a good fit...
can someone back me up (or correct me)?

Thanks for the extra reading. I am in the process of reading up on a VV mod, so any necessary reading is a blessing.

I will post a pic sometime when I get a chance. One thing that I noticed is that the battery I was using was actually only a 3V battery, making its performance all the more impressive, at least to me. Since then I have been using 2 in series, making it six volts, and it is STILL going strong, on the same batteries. Its amazing how long these batteries last!
