I learned the hard way that cheep China batteries are not all made the same. My digital Vamo and Sub would not even fire up using low discharge 18650 even though they were very high mah. Dumb me, I lost both of these about 3 weeks ago and ordered another Vamo with no battery. I like spare and have not ordered another yet. Question: I just took apart and old PC laptop battery pack. It has 6 18650 2200 mah. I do not know if they are high discharges or protected - Li-Mn are not protected but better than Li-ion. Prelimary check - it works. What do you all think or know about PC batteries.

That is why I am asking the question. To tap into the community for knowledge of batteries regardless of cost.

Lets assume lap tops are primo good batteries...ok... got six of them...rechargeable too.

I have 3 EFESTs at approx. $10 each.

I could just trash the laptops, oh which I did, and I could just trash these batteries too. As least these work compared to the new "low-discharge" batteries. I do not even know if the mods tell you specifically what type of battery to get and most folks are not ecig gurus.

I would guess they are unprotected LI ION batteries if they came out of a laptop, I would be leery of using them in an ecig application. Remember the burning Dell laptops? Not to mention the problem Boeing has had with the new Dreamliner.

Not sure what type of efest you have, I have five Efests IMR,(LI MN), high drain 18650's and four 18350's. They work great for me.

Hi Foosman, I would advise you to take out the laptop batteries. Do not use them. Your laptop was a plastic shell, in which if those batteries went thermal they would destroy the laptop and such with very little ill consequences. Every laptop cell I have had apart has been regular unprotected lithium batteries, which are not safe for high draw(like in a boost mod) and have no safety built-ins. Furthermore contiue to keep in mind that this thing is not only unsafe, but sealed in a metal tube, near your face when it is being drained from(Pipe bomb?)....... Do you really need to use these in your mod? That bad? No You do not. I would not. Batteries are cheap, good batteries are not expensive. You have purchased two units and still have yet to get yourself some good batteries to put in them.... Do Please get yourself some good batteries, the mod can only do so much, the battery is the core of the whole system. Mods are only as good as the battery allows them to be. Get yourself a reliable, safe power source. Please.

From what I understand, laptop cells are typically Panasonic 18650s but I still wouldn't try them in proximity to my face. As per batteries going thermal and taking out the whole laptop, that's only because they chain react and each subsequent reaction is hotter and more violent than the previous. ANY battery we use in ANY of our mods is capable of doing that, and it's even more dangerous in mods with stacked batteries.

@OP- Get yourself some of the Panasonice Hybrid 18650 2250mah High Drain batteries. I've seen em at plenty of US-Based supplier websites who will have them to your door in 3 days. For shorty mode on a Vamo, get yourself eFest or AW IMR 18350s and for the love of god, don't stack them. I'd also suggest getting yourself a Nitecore i2 or i4 charger if you don't already have something with overcharge protection that doesn't need spacers for short batteries.
