I just got my 510 (and absolutely love it!). It comes with a USB charger, but I've never used one before. So my question is, is there a way to tell when the battery is charged? When I have it plugged in the light on it stays blue forever, but when I put the battery in my PCC it appears to be fully charged?

So far, every single battery I got was charged on arrival. I don't know if they come from factory that way, or the vendors charge them, or what, but there it is. I never had to go through the 8 hour thing, or the 20 mins and then charge again thing. I'm fairly confused about it myself. All I know is that my batts work, and the charge time doesn't seem to be diminished, so... <shrug>

I have a DSE901 with a wall charger and a USB charger.

I've read here on the forum that the USB charger won't really charge my battery if I use it on a USB hub instead of the computer itself - I wish I'd read that BEFORE I tried charging batteries with the USB hub!

With my wall charger, the battery screws in, but with my USB charger, there's a spring-loaded clip that's supposed to hold the battery in tightly enough so it makes good contact. I've found that I can't get good contact that way, so I'm trying different 'solutions' to hold the battery into the charger - currently I am balancing a winter boot on top of the charger to hold the battery in, with the battery led-end on the floor.

Does anyone have a better idea how to get this USB charger to hold the battery in? I bought the USB charger to use at work to keep spare batteries re-charged, and I think it might be be difficult to explain why I have a brown suede boot sitting on my desk <g>

Yeah, it looks like there's a certain amount of power needed to the USB port or it won't charge. I tried mine on a different computer and it showed a red light but on the first computer it showed blue. Mine is the same as yours with regard to it just pushing in with the spring-loaded clip, but I don't know a way for it to make better contact. Might look into a passthrough so I don't have to worry about the battery charging as much :).

hehe I have that same usb charger. sux doesnt it? i found that if i hold it to one side or the other it works so I attached a rubber band around it several times, wound it around the charger portion and wire so it holds. It works really well, but I wish the thing just worked right to begin with!:sneaky:

My USB charger has a short cord - less than 6 inches - and no thread, just this little
spring-loaded clamp that's supposed to hold the battery in the charger. The clamp isn't tight enough to hold it in well.

I have a different one on order. In the meantime, the rubberband trick sounds like it will work!

Jeannie,

Got it. Yep, it's different than the one I have with a short cord which has threads. The other one (innovapor's) has no cord but is spring loaded but the two I have hold the battery. Thick rubberband is what I'd have tried ... ;-)

Sounds like there are several different types floating around. I have the USB charger with no cord and the "grippy" design (from Innovapor). I think I read somewhere that it is actually a 901 charger but works for the 510 as well. I have purchased two different e-cigs from two different companies, as well as USB passthroughs from yet a third company and have NEVER gotten any instruction manuals of any kind. Oh, the PCC from IV did have instructions on the back of the package. Thank God for this forum and Youtube, because it seems that many of the sellers assume everyone already knows what they are doing! :D

If your charger is like mine: On a low bat, it should turn red and it will flicker to blue every 5 or 6 seconds. Takes around 2-3 hours to charge. When it is close, both blue & red glow making it look purple. A few minutes after that, it turns blue and is ready to go.

And don't be afraid to push the batt all the way into the charger. :)

Thanks everyone. I did try again on the original computer, and it turns out that a few of you who mentioned not pushing it in far enough were right. I tried pushing it a little further and it worked just fine. So now until I get my passthrough (next month is the earliest I can afford one :( ) I don't have to worry about going all the way into the other room to get my battery from the other computer :)

I have one of those short cord with the clamp usb chargers and I have to say it might work with a laptop on a table but, unless it's laying flat the batt won't stay in good contact.I had to use mine with a wall to usb adapter in a power strip so it could lay on the floor.Still had to wiggle and spin to charge.Worked but kind of defeats the whole purpose.
