Subtank MINI vs Kayfun

Hello vapers,
right now I'm using Erlkonigin.. it works ok, but the air control ring tends to tighten by it self, condensation and laud sound bothers me alot.
also it is not so interesting to drain whole tank dry when changing coil or wick..

I started looking for some new device...

Recently released Subtank Mini looks very interesting as is has option to use standard and rebuildable heads, also standard heads are easy rebuildable.
And the price is just about right for my budget.
But kayfun (various models) is still mentioned a lot too and it seems like its a pretty good too at things I don't know. And has loads of models\clones\looks alike.
The threads in forum about Kayfun is a way to big to read... i will forget what I read in first post at page 50 or even faster


As far I understand both of them could suit me well, except Kayfun family price is big as several Subtanks...

I'm stuck at choosing (would be nice to get them all)...

easy refill (~4-5ml), recoil with no drain, and silence would be my preference.

if Subtank in Your point of view is totally not worth buying, name the Kayfun model I should look more closely...
sadly it would be clone, so clone manufacturer also would be needed.

p.s.
it is possible that I don't need the Kayfun it self... probably similar style tank would be good... but there are way too much brands\clones to choose.

I would go subtank just because it has better airflow, also if your feeling lazy you can just pop in a coil. Subtank is a great value.

The mini is very easy to build on. Since getting my two Subtanks the kayfuns haven't seen any action. I'm spending a lot less time building and more time vaping.
A great value indeed.

There are so many different things to think about that there is no one correct answer.

I vape at 8 watts not 35, but understand that is a personal choice. That alone makes the Kayfun a better choice for me. A KF is easy to set up to vape well at 8 watts, the sub tank .... not so much (if you can at all)

The ekowool wick and 1.25 ohm coil in my KF has been in daily use for a full year. How is that spending more time building and less time vaping?

Gonna have to disagree with this. The subtank is more user friendly. You can work on your deck with ejuice in the tank and don't have to worry about vacuum and pain in the .... filling method that comes with the kayfun. Airflow is junk on a kayfun.

Isn't it nice that personal preferences are like ................, every one has one.

I don't drain the tank to clean the wick & coil in my KF .......... I just wait until it's empty.

May I confirm that you have been using the same wick and coil for a full year? My wicks last one day and coils last about a week, dry burning every day.

I have to agree a year without changing the coil or wick seems impossible. My coil is going 3 weeks now, but I change the wick every two tanks on the Kayfun, and could go longer.

I change my coils every few days. It takes me half the time to install a coil in the mini compared to the kayfun or even the 25mm subtank. The way they designed the deck is a great thing.
Filling is also a breeze. Any tank that allows me to pure straight from my bottle gets a thumbs up.

Subtank wins on 1 and 2 but my mini is not very quiet. I think there is a trade off here where the noise is concerned. When you open the air flow up, noise of a sizzling coil is going to transfer. Your build can make a big difference in the noise.

I actually don't like three air flow, the tighten it is, the better. I still miss that from cigarettes. But I'm afraid that at some point I can flood a coil.

I was the same way when I started vaping. These Subtanks have converted to me to a hybrid mouth/ lung inhale. I still use the smallest hole most times even covering half the hole to get it just right.

My kayfuns get wicked once every 3 weeks or so. I have gone 3 or 4 months on a coil, but never gotten close to a year and I find it hard to believe the wick could get anywhere close to that.

I use kayfun 4s exclusively but I am considering a subtank mini right now so I can use the temp sensing coils on my dna40

here's a pic of that one year old wick & coil (11:30 this AM)

And yes you dry burn with the ekowool in the coil, I did a dry burn about 3 week ago.
It still works way to well to think about replacing it.

Agreed, the Sub tank is great value. What you get for your money, 2 * OCC heads and an RBA deck with a couple of coils is terrific.

Love the new Kayfun 4. Can refill easy from the top now, has an airflow controller and the best part is... One can recoil without drain too. I prefer it a million times more than the Kayfun v3.1. So if you are going to get a Kayfun, definitely get the V4. Currently I run a dragon/chimney/vertical coil build(s) on it, and it vapes like a dream.

I think you guys need to clarify which Kayfun you're talking about. The v3.1 and KFL+ is kinda hard to fill and needs to empty the tank to get to the coil/wick. KF v4 gives you access to the coil/wick w/o emptying the tank and has top filling. It's also quiet and doesn't whistle like the v3.1 and KFL+.

I would recommend the Tobeco version if you're going to get a KF v4 clone.

My coils (nickel) usually last a few months but I tend to recoil before it really needs it. My wicks usually last 5-15 tanks (4-12 days) depending on the juice I'm vaping.

I also have a Lemo 2 incoming to try out.
