I'd be quite willing to purchase a Subtank, but I'm strictly a mouth to lung vapor and like a fairly tight draw; I can't do direct lung hits. On the nautilus I vape at either the smallest hole, or second from smallest. I've read from other people that the Subtank is quite a bit "airier" than the Nautilus Mini, so I don't think that it would be the right tank for me. So far I have three Nautilus Minis and a fourth is on the way; I like them. Looks? Looks are subjective and I find nothing wrong with the look of the Nautilus. Best of all, it keeps me off the analogues. Heck, I'd suck on a car tail pipe that spewed e-juice if that's what it took to keep me away from tobacco :)

I was too, but I actually started practicing doing lung hits with the Nautilus and once I got the hang of it (over the past two or three days), I started using the Subtank again today. When I first started using the Nautilus, I start using the next to smallest hole and then gradually started increasing the size of the hole. Now I am using it wide open and I also use the Subtank wide open as well. It's actually quite easy to do lung hits with the Nautilus (just gotta fool yourself to let more air in). The thing about lung hits is that your lung capacity is much larger than your mouth, so you take in much more vapor. The clouds that I can produce doing a lung hit is slight larger than one from a mouth to lung hit, but it is also much more dense. When I first got the Subtank and tried doing mouth to lung hits with it, I absolutely hated it.

I do too. The original has a very retro steampunk look to it, while the metal and glass replacement tank is gorgeous.

Steampunk -you nailed it! It reminds me the lamp from the FatMan amplifier :)

Don't want to highjack the thread, but here is another example, AeroTank Turbo reminds me a spacecraft from "From the Earth to the Moon" by Jules Verne

I am keeping it on my desk as an art object :)

The
I'm not saying that this is your issue regarding the flavour problems when using the Sub-Tank Mini, but Phil Busardo does identify an issue with the tanks where he describes the vaping flavour as tasting like "monkey azz" Lol. His observation has to do with the tank's insulator.

Thanks Wesson, I have cleaned the tanks, i use an ultrasonic cleaner, the coils all authentic, changed watts up, down and all and all over the parking lot, changed air holes on both, compared back and forward for weeks now, like I said, I just dont get what I am doing wrong, I keep going back to my Nautilus because of the flavor. Must be infact the insulator !
It does have me wonder though how we judge and review our e liquid flavors though, love them in one tank, hate them in another !!

I've seen fair bit of discussion about these two devices, and seen them recommended to quite a few people. Having owned and used them both, I though perhaps some additional info might help people make a choice between the two.
Obviously this is highly subjective, this is just my take on these two products.

Firstly, both are excellent tanks and I would, and do recommend either of these products.
I think the main thing that separates these two is the airflow options. The Nautilus has a much more restrictive airflow and generally suits mouth to lung, though wide open direct lung hits are possible. The Subtank is far better suited to lung hits. Even at it's smallest airflow setting I find mouth to lung difficult. However wide open even with the 1.2 ohm coils it chucks some quite respectable clouds when the mood takes you. That in conjunction with some of the pros detailed below means that I now only use the Subtank and, not the Nautilus.

Aspire Nautilus Mini

Pros -
Great flavor
Small size

Cons -
potentially harmful fiberglass wicking
small capacity 2ml
no RTA option
no sub-ohm option
not really usable above 18 watts
quite restrictive airflow

Kanger Subtank Mini

Pros -
Great flavor
Cotton wicking (easy to rewick)
Good choice of pre-built coils including nickel and sub-ohm
Big airflow

cons -
RTA can be a little fiddly to build on for some

The POTENCIALLY DANGEROUS has me cranky. We veterans have been vaping 5 years or more and no one has complained of health problems. Oh well

Airflow sets them apart. The Nauti is the classic clearo, with a restricted airflow, special for those that mouth to lung inhale.
On the other part, the Subtank is more for those that are in the search of the RDA experience in a tank.

I always say: If the Protank I was too airy for you, then the Subtank is not. I only wish they built 1 ohm coilheads for the rest of us.

edit: I just remembered that there are coils for the rest, clocking at .3 ohms, for use in DNA devices. Just forgot. We're in the game of subohming nevertheless

Just to make sure- can I rebuild non-sub coils on the Subtank? I'm a longtime protank single coil user because they're easy to rebuild and all the new double/bvc tanks seem like a PITA to build. The Subtank would seem to be a good solution if I could put 1-2 ohm on it.

Absolutely. It is up to you what resistance you build the coil to.

The Subtank wins if you're after clouds.
The Nautilus wins if you're after taste or throat hit and don't care about clouds.
For maximum taste, you don't want too high wattage, and if running a sub-ohm tank on super-low voltage to get low wattage, it takes forever to heat up,

Two very different products - the size is about the only thing they have in common.

As usual,ECF answered all my questions. I was considering buying a Kanger Nano just to test the waters of sub-ohming. I use the Mini now and always do a mouth to lung hit. After reading what I have read today (ironic this thread should be posted today) I think I'll buy another mini. I just ordered some new coils from World of Vape and they do list them as the "new cotton wick" coils FYI. Thanks again to ECF

I have both, and you really cannot compare the two of them. Its like a comparing a Ferrari to a Honda, yes they both get you to point A to B, but they are so different. In this case it is all about preferences. I use my Nautilus Mini because I can vape it in my office with out anyone knowing what I am doing and satisfy my cravings, no need to run outside in the cold. I use my subtank when I am out and about, but only use it at about 23.5 watts, good flavor and decent clouds and great lung fulfillment I might add.

I have yet to find an e-liquid that doesn't generate visible fog. Even 100% PG is still too visible to use without anyone noticing. (It's added to hospital oxygen precisely because it's visible, so leaks can be detected.) Holding it in for as long as possible, and slowly letting it out through the nose helps, but it's still more visible than a cigarette would be if doing the same.

If anyone knows of a e-liquid that's made to not generate any visible aerosol fog, please let us know!

Good thing I'm allowed to vape in my office. I could never vape my full sized Nautilus without people knowing what I was doing.

Yes, that's a Nautilus with a 1.8ohm coil at 19 watts with a 50/50 mix juice. Works great for me.
