I have the subtank mini and use my usual 12mg nic juice. I don't have any problems with it, however there are those that swear you will need to drop it down to 3 or 6mg nic if you subohm. Personally, I'm just not seeing it yet but still I enjoy my subohming at 15 to 18w so that I can take those nice long 6 to 9 second lung hits instead of burning the vapor up there at 25 to 30w with only a second or two hit. So maybe that's the difference.

Nic level is a personal choice and varies widely from one person to the next. We'll need more info in order to answer your question. Namely, what device are you currently using and what's your current nic level?

With regard to the iStick 50W, you should be aware that quite a few people here and on Reddit have complained that the iStick will suddenly start auto-firing. In some of those instances, the device either caught fire or exploded. If you have your heart set on an iStick 50W, I strongly suggest you remove your atomizer whenever you're either charging the device or leaving it unattended for any length of time. As an alternative, you might want to look at the MVP 3 Pro, the Kanger Subbox (which comes bundled with a Subtank Mini), or even an iStick 30W.

If you haven't purchased yet, I'd suggest getting the mini over the nano, holds more juice, fits great, and comes with the option to rebuild your own coils if you ever want. I have both, the nano performs just as good so it's still a great tank. And when I went from my old tanks to subtanks, I dropped from 12mg to 6mg with no issue.

the istick 50 has a bad button design, my GF has one and it would auto fire all the time, and at one point the button stopped working. i had to re-engineer the button to fix the problem. there are better options out there, unless you're really set on the istick. but you have the IPV mini both versions are great, the new Kanger sub box kit. the MVPs.... so many things out there to look at

i do like the Mini tank better than the nano but if you don't care about having an RBA, and don't mind filling the tank more the nano is fine

as far as your nic level, i use to drip 24mg at .3 ohms on a mech, it's all about what you can tolerate. yes most people drip and sub ohm 3-6mg but 3-12mg is doable.
higher nic level when sub ohming means you're going to get more nic faster and might not even need to vape as much. dripping 24mg would get me nic sick after like 5-10 pulls. i did it can A i didnt know any better and it was fun sometimes to watch people try it and B it was the juices i had at the time and i wasn't going to waste them

I have a mini and a nano. I love them both. On the .5 ohm coil, there's no way I could go over 6mg, but it really is personal preference and tolerance.

As for the tanks, you can't go wrong with either. The Nano seems to have better airflow control. I bought the mini to play with the rebuildable deck.

the mini now has the better AFC as it has the updated version now..... the older AFC is actually the same as the nano so they should be matched
but getting the new AFC mini is kind of a luck thing as the V1 AFC is still in circulation

Yep I ordered from VapeNW and got the new one a month ago, for what it's worth.

I'm about to buy a istick 50w and a subtank nano online, I also selected liquid with 18mg and 12mg of nicotine, is that too much for the subtank nano???

I think a Lot depends on what type of Atomizer you are Currently using.

If you are coming from an RBA/RDA or another tank, and you are currently using 12mg/ml or 18mg/ml, then I don't think there should be any Issues.

If you are Coming from a Carto Tank or Clearos, then you might find that a Slightly Lower Nicotine Level is More what you like.

If you are Brand New, and this is your First e-Cigarette, then all Bets are Kinda Off. Because some people have a Easy Transition to e-Cigarette from Smoking with say 12mg/ml. Others may need a Higher Nicotine Level to Quash the Cigarette Cravings.
