Need suggestions for a cheap mod to add to my rotation.

I love VV and I love boxmods but I don't have any that are both so hoping to remedy that issue.

Doesn't need to do bottom feeding (unless the mod is uber cheap).

Only real requirements are VV, box shape and takes 18650's.

Long shot, if it has eGO threading that'll be great! I'm in love with these damn 3ml bottom coils.

Cheaper the better, I need to keep funds available for another mod when it hits the market.

Thanks all and back to looking through the forums.

Edit: Forgot to mention, would need to be available for purchase now.

I was also concerned about the battery life of the Smoktek Box but from what I've read it last longer than a single 18650 since its 14500 x2. Smoktek is the only one I know of with the evercool/varicool circuitry which increases battery life but I'm not sure. The Madvapes VV Box Mod does perform well and its cheaper.

The Madvapes turn controller is on the outside and is very sensitive. The Smoktek one is on the inside so you cant accidentally change the voltage and damage/burn a carto. All you then need/might want is a voltage box meter like this.

Or you could buy the madvapes VV module, and a 18650 battery holder, and start modding!! DIY Dual 18650 VV with a voltmeter inside

I made one for myself with an LM2596 chip, and honestly its a beast, i run a Genesis maxi with 1.5ohms coil at 4.6v (4.36v under load thats around 12.6 watts of awesomeness) and i have like 2 days of chainvaping battery life. All in all that boxmod costed me less than 20$ in parts and beats lavatube/Vmax on any day!! I'll try to post some pics later when i get home.

To be honest the only part from Madvapes that I used was a 510 connector (from a previous order) I got the LM2596 from a PIF in modding section (they are sold on ebay for around 2$ a piece and free shipping) and the rest i got from my local electronics store since I'm so impatient. But the dual 18650 battery holder is available from Madvapes, so are the voltmeters, switches, master on/off switches. The only thing I'm not sure about is that project box that I used, never seen one like those on Madvapes, but its the same one that Shan uses for her dual 18650 ShanMods; so they are not a rarity item and they cost around 3-4$.

I kind of butchered the project box when I built the mod because I was on a hurry, and originally those parts where to be used in a exotic wood block I had bought, and once again because I'm impatient I broke the wood block while machining it. I don't really care for the plastic box since when i have time I'll move all of that setup in wood as it was intended in the first place.

Here's a few picture of the innards and the box itself with my Maxi Genesis, Its not quite aesthetic but it kicks like a mule:

Not looking to mod. I just don't have the time nor the space to properly work on any projects.

Small apartment with no workspace + dogs = trouble waiting to happen.

Can somebody verify if the Altoid tin mod uses the Evercool/varicool regulator?

So far the line up looks like the new VV Gripper from MV once their website comes back up, the Varicool from Smoktek and the Altoids tin mod.

Can anybody chime in which one is the "best" and why? I keep seeing cons with each of them but I'm probably over-analyzing.

I'm just ordered a Varicool from Smoktek.
Looking at the reviews this device seems solid.

It takes Two 14500 bats. Everything is recessed in inside the unit.
The Varicool means that the Bats should last all day.

I'm seeing too much Negative reviews on the VV Gripper from MadVapes.
Seems like Pot Luck if you'll get a good one.

What batteries are you planning to run on the Varicool?

Wish somebody could verify if AW IMR 14500's will fit and work on the Varicool. Another thread about the Varicool says it doesn't and I have a few sets of these laying around.

I would go with the Gripper. It works really good with 18650 batteries, has the best display of any of my VV PV's. Easy to change voltages and displays voltage and resistance with one click. Top fire button very comfortable to use with either hand. I use my left index finger with my left hand and my thumb with my right hand. Right index finger might work too but I don't have one to try it and thumb works good.:) Gripper VV

I believe that the Smokbox Varicool is an excellent unit also
If you are interested in my opinion and testing please read my Review Click Here

By the way the other company made a mistake and sent me AW protected batteries, they are sending an advanced replacement so I'll know in two days whether the AW IMR will work. I'm positive they will because the Trustfire Flames are jammed into the compartment. Seems like plenty of space for an AW IMR. The Trustfire Flames worked really well.

The danger of using a AW is that this unit doesn't have under voltage protection so you have to be careful not to ruin the batteries as they aren't protected.

On the other hand try taking a 27 second drag with your Gripper!!
