Hiya everyone, first post but I've been lurking for a while.

I've been vaping since February 14, 2014, I have tried one cigarette since that date and I nearly puked from the nasty taste. Prior to this I was smoking ~20 a day, had been for over 18 years. I never planned on quitting, never thought I would, having tried and failed so many times before. I started vaping with the thought that I would use it until it paid for itself, as a little break from my beloved habit. I never realized it would change my life. I began with an MVP2 and now I use that, the Itaste v3 and ego CTwist, and have begun the dark journey to mods - I just got a Panzer Blackhawk clone and black Fogger V4, and... wow. I'll probably use both the vv and mods going forward, depending on the mood and circumstance.

I also have a cantankerous old battleaxe of a grandmother who is 83 years old and recently moved into a senior's complex alone, the first time she has lived alone and the first time not living in a house. Although I have not seen her smoke for over 30 years, I found out she has been secretly smoking this whole time... that is: 68 YEARS OF SMOKING! She never gave it up. Now she's getting the gears from her neighbours about smoking on her patio (outdoors). She may get kicked out. She knows about my vaping and asked for me to get one for her.

I want to set her up with something, the problem I have is that she is absolutely technologically inept. I mean, this lady kept the clear plastic film that comes with new remote controls strapped to her remote with a rubber band because she thought it had some function. I'll probably drop off an Itaste spare and a couple of pre-filled tanks with new coils. But I doubt she would know how to refill them/change coils, etc. I skipped the "cigalike" step and so I have no idea if any simple devices are out there, and if they are any good, how they compare, etc. I've been doing some searches, etc. but opinions vary wildly. I want something simple, but satisfying.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm sure some expert advice will be incoming shortly! Sounds like a simple cig-like setup might be the best starting point, but my only experience with them were E-Lites. They cut me down, but didn't get me totally off the ciggies, I moved on to the EGO's after that and not used them since so I'm not much help, sorry!

Maybe get her an eGo-type passthrough and a bunch of prefilled cartos and clearos that you can regularly prefill for her? Remembering to charge batteries isn't always easy, even for me. If she had a passthrough and a USB wall adapter, that would be one less thing for her to figure out - she could just leave it plugged in. The problem with cigalikes is that they don't keep their charge long enough (maybe 2-3 hours tops for the long ones), and it's a PITA to have to keep recharging them (make sure you get a spare if you go that route - they take some time to recharge).
Smokeless Image X2s are pretty decent and dependable, and their prefilled cartos are excellent. 808 threading though, so you'd probably have to get everything from there for compatability. They also come in automatics (no button switch to push - just suck on it and vape). Next sale probably won't be till Labor Day, but if you can hit those, the discount's pretty substantial (like 23%+).

Oops, one more thing. If you go with Smokeless Image, save the packaging. They have a 30-day money-back guarantee (+90 day warranty) - if she doesn't like it, you can return at least the battery and get your money back.

smokeless image has coupon codes floating around

they also have some EGO gear the last time I checked...which was a long time ago actually

Oh yeah...forgot about those:

VOLTMAN (good for 15% off)

10VOLTECF (good for 10% off)

YOURVOLT00 (all caps and zero, zero) (I think 15% off)

... the passthroughs that I spoke of earlier are eGos with 808 threading (VGO). They also have regulated power, unlike regular eGos. And here's their FAQs: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/smokeless-image/270378-faq-frequently-asked-questions.html

I don't work for them. I just use their stuff. I'm wanting to switch to mods, but my Spinners won't die!

I would totally stay away from vv/vw and get a regular ego/evod type battery. Anything 1000 mah or above (that way the battery will last at least most of the day). I would get the kind that charges off of a usb passthrough on the bottom so all she has to do is unscrew the cap and plug in the charger (she doesn't have to remove the tank/carto/atty). Personally I would get a top fill tank like a vivi nova for her (it is much easier to manipulate and fill). I would tell her that she needs to keep the tank 1/2 or more filled at all time (keep from getting dry hits). If you could, once a week or so you go by, check on her and her equipment (you can change the coil, clean the tank, etc).

I have seen this work a couple of times, and still have friends who use this very set-up after more than 2 years of vaping.

BTW, if she has the "dropsies" an ego might be better so you can put a lanyard around the device and she can wear it around her neck.

Good Luck, and go grandma!!!

I'd say just get her something like a couple of vision spinners and about 3-4 (or more depending on how often you will be servicing them) cheap clearos and prefill em‘ for her. Help her find the sweet spot for voltage, tell her to leave the voltage knob alone and you should be golden. I do the same routine for an old broad myself.. :)

Thanks very much to all! I'm going to grab a starter set of the "automatic" Volt cigalikes as well as a simple battery and pre-fill a couple of clearomizers. I tried showing her my battery and clearo and how it is filled up but I may as well have been showing her an alien artifact. I figure the cigalikes will be a good gateway to the "better" vape from a battery. If not, I'll have them for my ever-expanding collection.

Again, thank you all!!
