Hey Vets,

I swear I already posted this, and if so and it was removed for some reason will a mod let me know if I did something wrong, what, and how to avoid having my post pulled again? (Assuming I didn't just think I posted it, and never actually did so :)

I use smok Tech 4MIL cartos, and I'm curious what can be done to maximize their useable life. I love a fresh carto as much as the next vaper, but times is tough! Plus I'm a three level a day vaper, daytime high (for me at least lol), a mid level late afternoon/early evening, and a really low for the last few hours before bed. (I sleep terribly so I try and balance possible disruptive nic cravings during the night with avoiding as much of the stimulant effect of high or mid nic). That means I have three live cartos on any given day because I dont want to mix my levels, with the day time carto getting the most use, the mid the least, and almost as much as use as the day time carto on low nic because I vape it like a chimney because my analog cravings are highest before bed, so I need to get as long of a life out of each before changing it out as possible. I've burned one by not letting the juice filter down before hitting it (ARGH), and I lost one to the heating element failing on day 4. I'm fairly new to these, and I'm not a dripper and won't ever be because it's a hassle to deal with atties, especially once you've burned one, but with cleaning, and letting dry, plus burn out and a rather intellgent vet asking me if thought rust formation was probable on the heating element while drying, I just don't like using them.

I've created a home-made humidor using a 1 pint ziplock storage container with a highly absorbent paper towel folded to fit the bottom of the pint container. I then boil water, soak the towel in the boiling water and CAREFULLY squeeze out most of the water and place it in the one pint Ziplock storage container.

I place my cartos on top of the paper towel, slide the pint container into a quart size ziplock freezer bag, and hold it angled over the steam rising from the boiling water capturing as much steam as possible being careful not to steam melt the ziplock freezer bag. Last I carefully, so as to avoid pushing as much of the hot water vapor and air escape and seal it up.

It may sound like a hassle, but twice a day it's quick after some practice.

I have NO proof that this does anything to prolong carto life, but I'm operating on the principle that the biggest reduction in carto life arises from the drying out.

1. Am I wasting my time?
2. If not, since I can't afford a humidor right now and I'm not sure a small humidor would even provide adequate humidity to keep them moist, does anyone have a better homegrown suggestion?
3. Last. Is there anything else that can be done to extend the life of the carto?

Thanks Vets!

OrangeBlood - It seems like you are going through a lot of trouble for little benefit. The best way to keep the carto moist is with juice. PG has a very low evaporation rate and even after a few days you would not notice any loss of fluid (due to evaporation) in a filled carto. The heating element in the carto is NiChrome wire which is extremely resistant to corrosion. So my suggestion would be to keep the cartos topped off, vape away and save the Humidor for cigars or spend the cash you would have spent on that for a MOD or other vaping toys.

Carto life is subjective and many variables come into play. Mainly the type of juice you are using. As a rule of thumb thicker darker juices are harder on those cartos and I have seen reduced run time when using those types of liquids. I run a 80pg/20vg DIY mix with about 8% flavor and gauge carto life in mls used. I average about 30mls of juice through a carto before it heads to the trash. You can clean them (there are numerous posts and methods on how to do this) but for me the time and pain in the ... factor are not worth the effort.

Additionally the first fill on the cartos is by far the most important. Again there are multiple methods but I have found using a sryringe (or even better a 30ml dropper bottle w/a luer lock top) to be the quickest and easiest method. Drive the needle to the bottom, between the carto outer body and the wadding and pull up as you inject liquid. I have NOT burned a carto in over 6 months using this method and it is super easy.

I am hopeful the above has helped and happy vapes.
