Cleaning the K4
The K4 comes in pristine condition and can be used / rebuilt straight out of the box (I did). However, many have reported that there was some speck of machine oil and/or gunk in theirs ~ thus it’d be wise to clean it up before usage. Here’s how I did it.
Stripped down to the bare minimum. 12 pieces in total. Everything had an Alcohol dip for about 15-20 minutes, then scrubbed up nice & proper with soap and a rinsed everything under lukewarm water.
After drying them I applied some vaseline into all the moving parts, especially the O-rings. This is crucial lest they get unnecessarily caught up and become a pita while disassembling later. A little bit of e-liquid could be used in lieu of vaseline but I chose to do otherwise (as a habit and my standard practice).
CAUTION:
Item numbers 1,2,3,4 needs extra care. Lookout for them lest you loose one or few in the sink. #2 & #3 must be removed b'coz they are most likely to fall out if left in the body and prone to going AWOL!
TIP:
For good measure you may also like to remove the four terminal screws as well as the AFC bolt from item #6 (total five additional pieces). Else, crank them extra tight (like I did) before you take everything to the sink.
