I take mouth to lung hits, so about 3-5 shorter pulls. I don't think it would wick fast enough with a wide open air flow. As it is I need to occasionally prime it in between.

It's not the ideal build for a KF4, but it works well. My last build was 26g 3mm 9 wraps for 1.2ohms, and I found the ramp up time too long.

I agree HB, it's nice to have a civil discussion when we are only expressing our opinions.

Quite honestly, when I got my first Erl, I didn't quite like the bottom either as I like a flush fit like you. I understood its purpose and the reason for it. Because of the flavor that I get off of it, the base has come to grow on me.

Now, on the other hand, I kind of always liked the top piece. I think it has a decent form and function.

To me, the Erl kind of has a rocketship look.

Oh yeah, if you're not a fan of the Erlkonigin, I'm sure you really don't like the Erlthron.

I have ordered one of them as well. :D

Incidentally, I'm rocking that crown tip on the Erl I brought to work today and think it adds to the look of the top cap.

Now, ironically, I DO like the look of the Erlthron!!!

I think it's cuz the design is carried throughout the whole set-up, and it's got a "clean" or "hybrid" connection look...
I'm a mess, eh?

Thanks for those pics...it confirms to me my wicks are too long. I was letting them hang down the sides a bit and I'm sure after they are saturated, they are probably blocking the juice holes. I may also try my 18g Luer Lok versus my 16g so I can have a bit larger coil for a bit more cotton.

You mean the other way around? 16g is larger than 18g, but either is way too small to wrap a KF4 coil around. Something more like 10g (2.4mm / 3/32) or 8g (3mm / 1/8) might be better. Or am I misunderstanding?

Yes...only had a half of cup of coffee when I typed that  Those are the two I use for all my coil builds due to all the small decks. I need a larger screw or something to use because these are too small and I'm not getting enough cotton. Digging around in my little tool box to see what I have to use.

Try a round toothpick.

And I really think this is the cause of why there are so many varying "solutions" for wicking. I often wonder if a 70/30 person should be helping a 0/100 person or visa versa. It's like a banana telling an orange how to peel itself. :)

Totally agree! There are just too many variables in each set up...

Type of wire
Size of coil
Coil ohms
Spaced or contact coil
Height of coil from deck
Wicking material
Amount of wick in coil
Size of tails
Length of tails
Juice ratio
Wattage
AFC adjustment
MTL or lung hit

If I post pix of my build that works for me and someone else attempts the same build, unless they have all of the previous variables exactly as I do, chances are their build will not work the way mine does.

Now, ironically, I DO like the look of the Erlthron!!!

 That is ironic. I thought that image would make you gag. But yeah, It does have a "clean" look to it and I can't wait to receive mine.

I had been struggling with the wicking in my KF4. I rewicked it last night with KGD. I fluffed the tails and then cut them so that they just barely, and I mean just barely, touched the deck. Voila! Wicked through a tank 70v/30g in no time. I finally got it. YAY! :D

It's just going to take some experimentation Angi. Hang in there. You'll get it I am sure.

On a side note, I received my 4S kit a couple of days ago and will be installing that this weekend so we'll see how that goes.

Smooth end of a 7/64 drill bit works well. You can get one at most any hardware store. Will give you a 2.8 mm coil. This is the size I have settled on for my Kayfun 4's.

Found a random nail in my garage which is an 1 1/2 and looks to be a typical framing nail but have no clue on the diameter. It's too cold to go run to Lowes. I built the biggest, ugliest coil I have ever built but WOW...can I fit comfortably a bunch of KGD in it!

Cut the tails pretty close and just to the rim of the deck, fluff them up and so far...vaping great. Hope I don't jinx myself but not one dry hit yet. Next time if I still haven't bought a normal sized nail or drill bit, going to go with the toothpick! Wish I thought about that or read that before I started.

And when you're done with your coil you can pick your teeth between vapes. It's a win-win.

Okay, I gave it one more shot and I think I have it.

I had to go to 5 wraps at 2.8mm ID of .26ga kanthal - comes out to 0.8ohm and wicked it with ... cotton such that the wick just touches the deck. Finally wicks properly without trying out but the taste is still only 60% of the Kayfun 3.1s which is disappointing.

I've never had to ...... with a rebuildable tank before like I have this one. I think there will ultimately be a 4.1 as this one is too finicky to gain the kind of following the past Kayfuns have - frustration will drive people away from it.
