vaping in temp mode too?

Nope... I just prefer SS316L in power mode as well on the KFM3. Tried temp mode for mtl but was not very pleased. Temp protection hitting way to fast even with wattage set to 5w.

My favorite build so far... 28g SS316L 2mm id 7wraps. Vaping between 15 and 17 watts.... best flavour I got out of the KFM3 so far.

I need to get some smaller gauge SS. I really like the flavor (or lack thereof) with SS, but all I have right now is 26 ga.

Can someone explain how you can tell if your coil is sitting on the deck 1.5-2.0mm? I don't have the vision to see it let alone set it at that height.
Ok, let me help you out with that. Pls see the pic below:

K-mini coil glow red Small.jpg

When the "bottom" of the coil is just aligned (in line) with the post screws' heads ~ it will be roughly around 1.5mm. I.e. the coil is positioned around 1.5mm from the base's airhole. Lift the coil up slightly - and it will be around 2mm, like in the pic above.

The ideal position, per me, is to keep the coil's bottom placed "in line" with the heads of the screws. That's about 1.5mm. Which gives out the best flavor, vapor, TH mix IMHO.

Got a mm ruler?

No

1.5mm = close to 1/16th of an inch.

I'm half blind. I do have metric feeler gauge but it's too wide to fit in.

Q your photo helps and gives me a way to "eyeball" the right height.

Ps: My eyesight is just as bad as yours @Pinggolfer. Many times, for testing / tweaking, I use a magnifier. Or zoom in my camcorder and see the work thru it's screen. One of the reasons why you'd find so many zoomed-in shots in my videos :D

This is exactly what I do too. I raise my coil until I can just barely see the opposite screw head, and then lower it ever so slightly. Seems to do the trick!

Great post #1
You can also use the inside diameter of your coil as a gauge. If you're using a 2.0mm inside diameter coil then you can compare it to the coil clearance above the airhole. A little less than the ID to get 1.5mm.
Great post #2

I never thought of either if these ideas, but now will not forget. Esp the coil diameter part. I usually have just eyeballed to what looks tight to me from past experiences.

Good stuff.

Maybe most don't have but I use a blunt tip needle. I have quite a few diameters for various uses and the one I use for coiling every time is a 2 inch by 1.2 millimeters diameter. I use this for fluffing wick tails and tucking in wicks to channels, I also use it to set coil height. Every single coil I set, I gauge by this blunt tip which I slide under coil. I have tried every height imagined and always come back to this height. Once it set with this diameter, I know it's between 1.2 and 1.4 in height

You might also try a Old Feeler gage for points.

The good old days where all you needed was a screw driver, file and feeler gauge to get your car running, and a 13/16 spark plug wrench was helpful.

Yep yep; that be the one:D:) I kinda miss those days. Although I have two old Super Beetles; They both have Electronic Ignition:D. But with Coil clearance we still maybe able to rekindle those memories. LOL. Who would of thought.

My dad was a mechanic and when I was a kid he used to take me with him sometimes. He had a Mobil tune up service and I remember that feeler gage thingy. It wasn't the disc one but the one sort of like a knife where you slid out the size you needed and for some reason, I always liked that tool. Anyways i have most of my dad's tools, which I got when he passed and I tried that old gage but it's to wide for most of the tanks I have because of the screws.
