I keep seeing people post recipes/concoctions that include "sweetener". Even fruity stuff. What's the deal with 'sweeteners'?

sweetener is eltyl maltol aka EM. its used to sweeten, but its also used in tiny amounts (<1~5%) to make flavors 'pop', come together, and give more of a fuller effect.
im just gettign into EM myself, so i only have base knowledge.
some other notable additives that give a worthwhile effect are lemon juice, vinegar, and water. then theres the magic mask, and bitter wizerd, and possibly more that i cant seem to keep straight. i tried posting an 'additives' thread to sort them all out without much luck :/
perhaps we'll have better luck compiling such a list (with percentages) here.
if not, check out the daunting 'Vinegar?' thread. but be warned, its long. and have your notebook ready!

Some flavor companies sell their flavoring without any sweetener in them. I'd prefer to vape a sweet strawberry than a sour one. But thats IMO. 
There is sweetener and EM. Some folks like things sweeter so they use sweetener. EM has a number of uses and in higher amounts can also sweeten.

Why? To make things sweeter.
When? When it needs sweetening.
How Much? You can start at 1 drop per 30ml and move up as high as you like.

There's a "3" below my avatar. I think it's the What Else Do I Need? one that pops up after clicking that 3. I call it Butterfly Farts and Unicorn Tears, so if I've referenced that it's how it works in my brain and not a deliberate attempt to confuse.
I think it's pretty cool that ECF keeps a link to my blogs on everyone of my posts, so I don't have to remember how to get there. Since it took me about a year to get around to typing up the blogs, after I made the mistakes that allowed me to figure stuff out, it's probably a good thing they do, or I'd forget where the heck they are.
(And for folks that don't have enough posts to see the 3 below my avatar, it shows up sometime after you get 15 posts under your belt. I put this in to cut down on the PM's regarding this issue. ECF rules, not mine.)
