Has any found a supplier or company that has tobacco e-juice like or very similar to MFS Turbosmog, Tall Paul, or Red Luck?

All i have ever used are slightly spaced coils with the doggy and never heard a pop or had any trouble in over a year now. I can't believe it is spaced coils causing it.

Yeah I don't think it's the coil itself causing the problem. It has to be with how I was wicking it, or maybe something with the cotton in the channels.

I noticed in your picture that you have one more wrap than I did and it looks like that would keep the tails completely off of the airflow section. I have no idea if that would affect anything or not though.

View attachment 733909 I normally do 7 wraps around a 2 mm id bit with 28 SS316L. I posted this to show the spacing on my coils.
Thanks Dub, I appreciate what you're saying and I've followed the thread with interest. But I just can't get the spaced coils to work without that nasty pop after the tanks been set aside for any length of time - be it overnight or 5 minutes. My spaced coils have been similar to yours, maybe slightly less spaced. But kanthal 28g not SS, don't know if that's important.

Tried tight wicks/loose wicks/long tails/short tails/different diameters, etc. You name it, I tried it. Tried talking nicely to the Doggy, taking Doggy for walks, swearing like a trooper at the Doggy (enjoyed that). But the Doggy just looked at me and said ".... spaced, not interested".

So for now I just do contact coils and I can happily report that my Doggies are house trained, bless 'em.

Yes it is a mystery for sure. I only vape in TC with DNA devices, no idea if that has any bearing on my lack of popping.

I normally use only 7 wraps. The reason i built the coil shown at 8 wraps was i was trying to get a higher resistance for a 18500 battery DNA 60. I am now using 7 wraps all the time. To me 7 wraps spaced is perfect, any more you are hanging over the deck. Also the tiny airflow under the coil is not able to hit the entire coil.

I always build with slightly spaced coils no matter the wire. I generally use tc but have on occasion used vw mode. Never had a pop. I vape 50/50. 70/30, 80/20 juice in my doggies with the same results. Never a pop. I believe it is all down to wicking. As long as you don't let the coil get too close to the edges the number of wraps makes no difference in tc. Using Kanthal it is easy to use a slightly spaced coil and get higher ohms. The only advantage with Kanthal spaced is less juice build up on the coil and some claim better flavor spaced. Poping is usually a matter of the choice and prep of your cotton.

Speaking of spaced coils I just got in some VV Superfine Ni80 Clapton wire this morning. I built it with a very spaced coil and HOLY SMOKES! The flavor coming off this wire is amazing. The reason I used very spaced is because the wire is resistant to tight coiling and this was my first experience with it. I have their Superfine Clapton ss wire and it is very good but this Ni80 is a game changer for me. It cannot be used in tc but who cares if it performs like this. I just built to the deck size and it came out at .58ohms. At 13 watts this thing is a revelation in wire for mtl. Excuse me I'm off to order more.

I've got a roll sitting around of that wire from Vandy Vape, have to dig it out when the doggy's arrive.

@Chodi that wire is pretty amazing, isn’t it? I haven’t tried to space it yet in a doggystyle, but have used it for a few weeks (6 wrap, contact). Would you mind taking a photo of your spaced build?

The one downfall is that with that wire, I typically prefer @20w, which ups the juice consumption and battery drain considerably over a simple kanthal build.

Can you share where you are getting the VV wire from, been using Clapton coils for MTL for few years now, so wouldn't mind giving the VV Clapton wire a try :)

I cannot pull the doggy apart until tomorrow it is very late here. I did open the Skyline and take a poor shot of the spaced coil. The doggy is almost identical. I had been vaping on the Skyline all day. I took this as an opportunity to re-wick it.

Get it off eBay, it’s way about half the cost of getting it on vapordna.

I'm awake now and dove in to re-wick my SXK Doggy with the VV Superfine Ni80 spaced. By popular demand I took a photo just after adding the wick. You guys have to realize I am in Asia so when you make a request I am in the opposite time zone from most of you. Came to .78ohms on 2mm wrap. Vaping at 10w.

I've always been curious about more fancy wire for MTL but never followed up on it. Well, you've convinced me now! Just ordered some of the Superfine Clapton (both SS and Ni80) from a local joint. Look forward to trying it out :thumb:
