Three lil' golden doggies arrived today. They came with both clear and frosted tanks, I elected to go with the Clear. They also came with Ultem spare drip tips, and I used these rather than the stainless steel. They surprise me with how good these look in gold, clear tanks and the "gold" of the Ultem. I also did not realize just how small that little build deck is. Thank goodness it's very simple to build on.

Gave them a bath, and did a build on two. First, 28 ga SS 316,with 7 wraps at 2 mm for .56 Ohms. Second, VV Superfine SS Clapton, with 7 wraps at 2 mm for .57 Ohms. Both slightly spaced coils. Both are wicked with Rayon, trimmed considerably after stuffing the coil fairly tightly. Tails just long enough to brush the deck below. I have to admit, the brief trial so far is giving the Clapton a discernible lead.

Both are filled with Five Pawn liquids, Grandmaster and Queenside. I used these because bringing out the flavor can be tricky, they are subtle juices that can be easily overpowered. I'm at 18 watts setting temperature control to 360 degrees. That is considerably below where I usually vape other liquids with other tanks, but it's working with a flavorful response. The Clapton build in particular is bringing that blood orange in Queenside to the fore.

Both builds are being well behaved, no leaking, gurgles or spitting. They must have been house broken before leaving China.

Your builds and liquid choices sound delightful, Celt.

I would like to know what you think of the manufacture, the quality of the gold on this doggine.
The manufacturing quality seems very good to me. The trio are all "Doggystyle 2K16 RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer w/ Matte Tank - Gold" ordered from 3FVape. For $10.99 they are a steal. The design is so simple I would think there is very little that could go wrong with them. I do have three more coming in stainless from FastTech, along with some more spare tanks and O-rings, so they should have great longevity :)

Great find! This is neither the sxk or the sjmy but it does seem to have most in common with the sxk version. In the photo the airflow hole on the build deck seems larger than that which is on the sxk? I wonder if you own the sxk and could compare the airflow for us in the Dog Pound. I own both the sxk and the sjmy and find them both very similar in performance with the airflow on the sxk slightly smaller and tighter. All the accessories that come with this gold version make it very attractive. They are certainly offering a lot for the price.

Perhaps, Celt, if you don't mind, you can keep us posted as time goes by. I'd like to know how the gold plating (particularly the deck) holds up. I believe that's what we all started discussing some time back.

Trying wattage mode with that .5 Ohm clapton coil today on the tiny Smok Baby Alien mod. Twelve watts is doing very nicely in this compact combo. Both being gold, they seem like a great match.

The doggystyle is appreciably smaller and lighter than the Baby Beast tank, making an awfully sweet pocket setup for when you are out and about. Running 12 watts on a single 18650 makes for a lot of use before needing to resort to a battery change.

BTW mine actually looks less "matte" than the photos, the finish has more shine or a gloss.

@Celt1 nice builds! I bought a gold doggie for fun to go with my now, 6, SS ones lol! I noticed the airflow ring was super loose, no biggie, but haven’t used it yet. Still just using 2 for now.

I’m curious to see a pic of your SS clapton build with 7 wraps. I have been having a hard time using that wire anything but contact, with the ni80. Seems I run out of room, and it’s much more difficult to get in there.

Also, I always get popping when I space any coil. I feel like I can’t stuff the coil any tighter than I already do. How tightly do you go? Thanks for any input, from anyone!

Here’s today’s build with ni80. Real nice between 14-16w.

EDIT: PS the ultem drip tip that came with the gold doggie is by far my favorite one I own!!!

You are right, it is a bit tight, but I just give both legs of the coil a slight dogleg bend inward before attempting to mount it and it goes well (yeesh, no comments on that phrasing plz!). The only issue I had was the tendency with the clapton wire to move about more while tightening it down. I use the coil jig shaft to give the coil a cant to the opposite direction the screw tends to pull it in, knowing the end result will be about right.

As to the amount of spacing, I don't have a camera that can capture it, but I start with a coil that is almost equally spaced as the diameter of the wire, but by the time the coil is tightened into the deck, that has decreased the gap quite a bit, enough that I can clearly see light between each wrap when held up to a lighted background, but less than the diameter of the wire. That's what I mean by "slightly spaced".

For whatever reason that is not producing popping for me. I stuff quite tightly with Rayon, enough that I need to support the coil with a finger when pulling through with twisting at first to help it to feed through. Not crazy tight but snug for sure :)

I wind up with a nice pile of rayon by the time the trimming is done. Unlike the thinning and combing approach people often use with cotton, I have followed the advice of others and trim off the top, bottom and sides leaving it thicker near the coil, and tapering a bit toward the tail. Enough that when wet, it fills the channel and needs a bit of patting to not stick out too far, but not be compressed.

Dunno if I am describing it clearly, but hope it may help. Looking at that neat job of coil and wicking you did, that wick looks close to mine before I start giving it the barber treatment. Rayon demands less volume in the tails of course.

Anyone have a pic of a doggy wicked with Rayon? I’ve read some of the big rayon thread, but wanted to check out how to trim the tails for a doggy.

Also, is the cellucotton stuff on amazon decent? I’ve wanted to try it out for a bit.

Here you go. I think this is one of the rayon builds. Not real fresh, but...

And yes - Amazon should be fine. I found mine on Ebay, but as long as you get #44130, you will get Rayon, and not the cotton version.

Those of us living in Asia find it impossible to get rayon for wicking without paying crazy shipping charges from the US. Seems none of the usual suspects in China offer this. At least I haven't found any and I have looked.
Well at least should only need to order some once, that box is like a lifetime supply :)

That listing has a price of $32 for shipping to Thailand. It is only free within the US.
Ah, yes....but still a bargain if you like rayon. 1" will get you 6 wicks (or more), 480" x 6 = 2,880 wicks. $32/2,880 = $0.01 per wick. Still not bad compared to several $ for a pack of cotton bacon or kgd. Especially since rayon is supposed to last longer than those.
And who doesn't have a shower that needs cleaning now & then?;)
