I'm curious who called the news and why? I feel bad for the women and child that had a scare but there were no major injuries or a fire; certainly not a newsworthy story.
I think you have to get the news media involved for a proper lawsuit....

My battery cases have never popped open spontaneously in my purse, but then I have sense enough to make sure they are firmly closed.

I don't carry extra batteries around just the ones in the mod. But those cases can be very hard to even open intentionally.

The linked article says the vape pen exploded. What kind of vape pen? doesn't say. Was it a Mech? Doesn't say.

Very sloppy reporting I would say

Here's another link showing burns. And says she says the batteries in the plastic case exploded.

Curious what the real story is. Especially if they are 25R as shown by the store I can't imagine new ones going off for no reason in a case.
I can imagine there would be nothing left of the case to show.

But the Tesla was being driven when it happened. Plus, if you look at it burning, you can see it clearly burning from the underside of the car, so it could be possible that something on the road previously damaged the battery pack. Not necessarily, but it’s a possibility. And even if not, these batterie packs have a liquid cooling circuit that must be working when the car is driven, something could go wrong there.

Wonder if they had been left in a hot car for awhile? Florida is hot this time of year. Heck, half of the country is hot right now. Don't leave your batteries, your mod, or your cell phone in a hot car. Not saying she did, but it's a possibility.
Good point, but do you think they would catch fire after that, once they’re out of the car? Also, as long as they’re not being used, I think they’re pretty resistant to high temperatures, (but I could be wrong...)

No major injuries, I grant you that, but burns are nasty, very painful and take a while to heal, I wouldn’t just dismiss it as ‘minor’ either. And there have been numerous stories with LiPos catching fire in the news the last few years, without thinking very hard: the Boeing 787 (was even grounded for some time), the Samsung recall, a few Tesla fires, and every time the press deemed it newsworthy, even without major injuries. Personally I think it’s important that these incidents get reported: even if the probability of an accident is low, I appreciate knowing that there’s a real risk, and what I can do to mitigate it.
