Tank Etching

has anyone ever tried to etch their own design on cartomizer tanks?

I don't have the artistic ability for any detailed hand etching. Knife and Blade collectors/makers will sometimes use ferric acid to give their blades a nice dark, fingerprint resistant finish. I thought about trying it on a tank, but I can't figure out a way to keep it off of the threads and inside of the tank.

have you tried to tape it off my brother works on cars all the time and he told me when ever your doing stuff like that you have to tape it off or if its that small just use shrink wrap but im not sure that will apply to ferric acid ?
