As far as I know, you can get your cartos from anywhere. They just make it convenient by including the carto with the tank. They will often include a drip tip as well. There may be an option to order your tank without a carto and they'll take a couple dollars off the price.
So if i got a smoktech dct and bought the standard dual coils or some boge cartos i just have to punch a hole in them and they would be suitable.
Yes, but of course there are two lengths of cartos, a shorter one for smaller 3ml tanks and a longer one for larger 5ml + tanks. I actually use longer ones in some of my shorter tanks, which is fine, too. The other way around won't work, though.
Also, you'll need a carto punch tool to punch your holes. I recently picked up something called a saddle valve punch at a local hardware store for around $8 with tax. Works great! I'm leaning more towards two holes in my cartos these days. Or, you could just order your cartos "pre-punched."

If you don't wish to use the dual coil cartos with the flange, I'm pretty sure I read that you reverse the top and bottom end caps (bottom on top, top on bottom) with a different brand carto.
For the DCT's 3.5ml and 6ml tanks, you need to use a 45mm carto which mean you need to use either smoketech or boge XL (the popular ones). There are other also but not recommend. The normal boge is around 36mm and they are shorter than the normal. If you are using a dct, 36mm carto will fit only for the 4.5ml tank. Hope this will help

I have heard of others that use Boge in a DCT BUT I have never done that. I use Boge XL cartos in my glass tank, I punch the hole myself, much cheaper
