i built a couple coils for my protanks last night using 400 ss mesh. one thicker (about 3mm) and a smaller 2ish mm. both with 32 awg kanthal a-1. right around 1.6-1.8 on both. the thicker one works fine by itself but seams to taste metallic at times. the smaller one flooded until i put 2 - 1mm silica strands on top. so far i like the smaller coil best. will be trying some ekowool next, then maybe an ekowool sleeved ss mesh wick if i can physically get that done in the small space. will also be trying some ribbon kanthal as well. for the record, i am happy with stock coils as they come from kanger. my goal is to build a coil that costs less and lasts longer. we'll see how the smaller ss mesh holds up.
I have..in fact I have found that if I totally remove the stock flavor wicks and replace it with a 2.5 wick it works well. I have also made the wick longer than it needs to be and wrapped it around the canal. Don't know if that is helping but it seems to
