Tanks, cartos, smokymizers, clearomizers - I just need something that works!

Hi

I apologise in advance for the essay! I may be a noob to this forum but I'm not new to vaping. I'm looking for some advise though and the below is my impressions on various products from a mix of reading / watching reviews, hours of trawling through forums (including this one), and some experience.

With every vendor ranting on about the latest and greatest new gimmick or must have product, and conflicting reviews left right and centre, I'm left wondering what to try next.

First a bit of background -
I started vaping a year or 2 ago and my first buy was the ScrewDriver followed by a Riva 510 (aka ego 510).After a few months I had given up on vaping and gone back to smoking. There was just too much hassle - batteries which only lasted a few hours and cartridges which just didn't work well and needed to be filled every 5 minutes.

I've recently decided to give it another go as there's been massive advances since my first experiences and now there's tanks, cartomizers, clearomizers, smokymizers, DCT etc. all readily available. I invested in a Torpedo (aka LavaTube / poor mans Pro-Vari) due to the great battery life and variable voltage at a decent price. Now a battery will last me a full day at least! Plus I get variable voltage! Great!

Then I had to decide what to use with it and this is where things get messy....

Initially I was drawn to the DCT tank systems due to the large capacity, but trawling through forums and reading reviews I get the impression that they're great to have at home, but throw them in your pocket and run down to the shops or something and they'll likely leak. If anyone knows of a rock solid tank that will not leak whatsoever, I'd love to hear about it!

So after deciding against the tank I started looking at cartomizers and clearomizers. WHOA!!!! So many different types - CE2s, CE3s, CE4s tripple coil cartos etc. etc.I didn't know what to get but in the end bought some Smokymizer CE3 XL cartos. I liked the look, the fact they hold a fair amount of juice and the site I bought them from made it sound like they wouldn't leak.

First impressions were great (apart from the pain in the ... to fill) but that didn't bother me too much as I'd only have to fill up once a day. I know people have mixed experiences with these but so far for me all of them have worked well - excellent vapour and taste and great throat hit. I thought I'd be able to live with these for a while but I'm already getting fed up with filling and the condensation issues which others have mentioned as well as the very occasional liquid-in-mouthAlso a small amount of leakage at the battery connector end (this could be coming down the centre column from leaking at the top) but before anyone asks - the little bung was pushed in very tightly (with pliers in fact) and it still leaks a bit. Also I'm using pink spot vapours "G-Spot" which is a very dark juice so I know it's juice leaking and not condensation.

I really need something that doesn't leak and all the cartos I've read reviews on seem to suffer with similar problems to those above.

Just ordered a Vision Stardust ego clearomizer to see what that's like as people have said "no leakage whatsoever". But now I'm reading mixed reviews on that as well. We'll have to wait and see.

Really I'm after suggestions from people based on "their own experiences with products" - not just reviews they've read. I want a tank / carto type system which is reliable, will not leak whatsoever and still provides a great vaping experience. Does anyone have any sensible suggestions / recommendations or am I simply asking for too much?

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Hi. So far, I like the CE2 revision that has the fat wick, but still has the fragile shell. I have had to mod some of them with the 3ml syringe shell to keep them going, but they can go for a month or more.

Many seem to like the SmokTech eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer. I have not tried that, but I can say that I like the Joyetech eGo Mega Cartomizer. Other that being a bit fiddly to fill, it holds 1.8ml and lasts a long time for me with good flavor.

I didn't read all of that, but I also started and failed about a year ago and recently decided to give ecigs another try. I got a Liquinator tank from vaporessence.com, and it rules. Lasts all day+ and is 10 times better than the inferno tanko I was using. I'm six days in on this and still my first carto.

Do you carry the liquinator tank around your pocket etc and have you had any leakages?

Can I ask why no tanks ? If its cause of possible leaking I think any thing that hold juice has a possibility of leaking. I have used a dct and after letting it sit for a bit it holds pretty well without slipping. I don't care for dual coils so I tryed a j tank with boges. It is much tighter. I haven't had any leaks from either. Maybe give a cartomizer tank a try and see for your self.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of the tanks, but I've yet to hear of one that's completely solid and doesn't leak whatsoever. When I talk about leaking, I don't mean liquid literally pouring out, I mean just the odd drip here and there finding it's way out.

I know there's people who love these devices and people that hate them so when I look for reviews on these things I don't just look at one or two. I look at 10, 15, 20+ reviews on a single product from all different websites & people.

I don't think all these people would make up the leaking or not leaking, I just feel that someone who can accept the occasional drip here and there will consider that it doesn't leak as liquid's not pouring out and the occasional tiny amount that may drip out is nothing to worry about. Someone who can't accept that will consider it leaky. I'm the latter. I don't want something that may let the occasional drip out.

As you said, I'll have to try one for myself but from the things I've read I'm not sure they'll measure up to what I want. I need something durable which can take some throwing around. The current tanks are just too fragile and leak.

If you still have the Riva, pick up a smoktech tank with a 1.7ohm carto. I have had no leaks with the 3.5ml tank and no issues.

The cartos are pre punched with a small hole (my 70/30 PG/VG wicks fine) and have a flange at the bottom to stop the carto potentially sliding down, but it fits so tight that it hasn't moved accidentally on me yet.

It's a great vape, even on a low volt battery and if you give one or two dry pulls every once in a while, it keeps the carto nice and wet.

Just thought I'd update this post and give a quick review on the Ego Vision Clearomizer I bought (aka Stardust).

This things so close to being perfect! No leaks whatsoever! You can shake it up as much as you want, throw it your pocket and no juice escapes. Because of the way the mouthpiece screws in and presses onto a rubber seal I've had no juice in my mouth either.

So on leakage prevention I give it 10 out of 10!

To fill it there's no need for syringes or other tools just unscrew and pull out the mouthpiece then pour in your liquid and you're done. Just be careful not to get liquid down the centre which is easy to avoid anyway.

So ease of filling I'll give 9 out of 10.

Vapour production is great but throat hit isn't as good as some of the other feeding systems. Flavour seems to be lacking but I have been told they need some running in.

So vapour production gets 8.5 out of 10 and throat hit gets 6.5 out of 10. I'll give flavour 6 out of 10.

I paid £4.99 for 1 of these and had to buy an Ego adapter as well because I use a LavaTube. They are well made though and fits my mod nicely. Also the atomizers are supposed to last longer.

So value for money gets 6 out of 10.

The biggest problem with this clearomizer is the wick is at the top. Generally with a big battery mod like the LavaTube or ProVari you'll be vaping with the device nearly vertical as a pose to horizontal. This means you need to keep tipping the device upside down to ensure the wicks take the juice. This isn't a problem but I really wish it wicked at the bottom like the CE3s!

Overall I'd rate the Ego Vision Clearomizer at 7.5 out of 10.

I love the design, the fact it never leaks a single drop, the great vapour production and ease of use and filling. If was wicked at the bottom I definitely would have given it about a 9 out of 10.

Everyone has different tastes but I'd definitely recommend trying one.

After a few fills you'll notice the juice getting darker, it happens with all tanks I've heard.
I thin it down a little with plain nic juice but there will come a time probably when you'll
just want to clean out the SD and reload with fresh juice. It is what it is!

I find it's okay to overfill the tank "a little" and as it gets lower you need to "tip" it to keep the wicks wet.

Cheers Hitme:vapor::vapor:

Excuse the caps but everyone who is recommending those xxxl dual coil cartos is right that they are great on an ego/riva but not on a lavatube. Aren't they all lr? If they have them in higher ohms i haven't seen them yet. I went through all those that you mentioned ce 2, 3 and 4's as well as the ego magas and the xl, xxl,xxl and xxxl and on the lavatube i find that the boge standard resistance cartos are by far the best. Just my opinion. Only other thing i tried that is also really good and holds more liquid is the stardust. Just don't get the lr ones. Good luck and welcome back to vaping. :)
WOW IT FIXED ALL THE CAPS TO STANDARD SIZE TYPING FOR ME AUTOMATICALLY. PRETTY COOL. LOL

I've been using the boge 510 LR cartomizer and it's just been awesome. Tons of vapor, throat hit and flavor off these things and they are extremely reliable. I'm about to invest in a j-tank which are supposed to dominate all because of the quality and their ability to take any carto you put in it without it sliding around and coming apart. The other nice thing about the boge is it will fit on your ego battery. Hope this helped and glad the hear your kicking the habit again.
