I have just started vaping, and it tastes like chemicals! I don't think it is the liquid I have, as I have several bottles from different vendors (all reputable) that all taste like it. I am using a Clearomizer, which I have heard sometimes tastes like that because of a lubricant that is used on the wick?

What other types of tanks are there for on the top? I don't think I like the idea of this one...

Cheers

Hi mrpetev and welcome to the forum!

My first thought on reading your post is (and I'm assuming you're a former smoker who's just switched to vaping?), give it time. Your taste buds are just waking up. When you stop smoking tobacco, you start tasting things again, and it takes time for the taste buds to settle down into their new life. Also, your sense of smell has a lot to do with how things taste, and the same awakening-sense rule applies.

If you're unsure about your clearos, rinse them out before first use. Some use water, some use vodka, some with grain alcohol (do NOT use rubbing alcohol!).

Hope this helps a bit. Don't give up! :vapor:

I am actually not a smoker, and have never been! My reasons for starting vaping are in this thread.

I have rinsed it with water a few times, but still tastes a little off... it isn't a rebuildable one, just one a local store sells ... I have bought a second to test, and that is the same after rinsing :/

You could try rinsing the wick and coil in hot water than doing a "dry burn". I've gotten new ones that needed it to get rid of a bad taste.
What clearo are you using?
I like the top coil type myself because it's so easily cleaned and dry burned.
I can't get it out, so just have to pour water down the side, to get to the wick ...

It is just a cheapo clearo from a local store ...

Would one of the tank ones that don't have a wick be better?

It could really be both the liquid and the clearos.

I have liquid that I paid forward. All were from very reputable vendors and tasted like chemicals to me. It seemed if one bottle from a vendor tasted like chemicals - then it also carried through all of their liquids. My best guess - its just a reaction between my tastebuds and one of their bases. Others that I PIF'd to swear by and love those vendors. It seems to fall into the subjective taste territory. I tested the flavors in multiple set ups and allowed a proper steep before determining that chemical taste was there to stay. Steeping may also be the other reason it tastes chemically. If you have fresh mixed juice - it may just need to age.

Second - clearos. I find CE4s either taste OK or like chemicals no matter how may times I was them or deal with them. I rarely use them even though I have gotten some that function wonderfully and provide great taste. I tend to use BCCs like evods and my Iclear 30. You may find trying out a few different clearos, cartos, dripping, etc leads you to the chemical free taste.

Good luck and happy vaping!

**Just to add - the above post went up as I submitted this one. Health risks of vaping are an unknown - also the probability of developing an addiction or habit revolving around hand to mouth and smoke/vapor inhalation is unknown. Compared to smoking only I feel it is the lesser evil.

You probably have the CE4 sold with a lot of starter kits.
At least a CE5 that comes apart and has replaceable wicks/heads would be better. My favorite is the Vision vivi nova.

This video shows how to remove the silicone cap to dry burn. Rinse it with water first and skip the q-tip part, it could do more harm than good.

I didn't read the other thread other than the OP and this was probably said.
Taking up vaping that the health risks are unknown for a sweet taste is pretty dumb.
We don't really know if it's bad for you, probably is. Compared to smoking it's the lesser of 2 evils. Compared to sweets, I doubt it.

All great advice here... Also, sometimes new juice needs a little time to steep or age for the true flavor to come out. Do a search on steeping and you will get a variety of different ways to do this. Good luck and don't give up..... It does get much, much better!!

Coming from different vendors doesn't, necessarily, mean its not the juice. Flavoring houses are limited in number and if those vendors all bought from the same source, they'll all taste similar. I DIY and there are brands of flavoring I just can't use because of the chemical/soap taste. At this point its hard to tell because "chemicals" is a broad description. The off taste that comes from flavorings is different than the one that comes from clearos. There's only one clearo (the heads actually) that have a bad taste to me but others are blessed with not being able to taste what I do. The same goes for juices actually and that's why you will find people swapping juices. For instance, there is one vendor that so many people just love but all their juices taste just horrid to me as well as the same flavored juice from other vendors using that same brand of flavoring to mix their juice. You'll hear "taste is subjective" a lot around here for good reason.

Well, I can chime in on this. Because even as an experienced vaper I still get this taste all the time, but I know the source (usually). More than likely its one of three things. First and for most, if its a brand new atty/carto it very well might be the priming liquid they use. It tastes god awful, makes you choke and gag, and once you know the taste of that stuff, you will never forget it. Another thing it could be, If you are vaping a fruit flavor, esp berry flavors, its the flavoring the company used. This problem can sometimes be solved by steeping the juice. Take the lid off the bottle, put it somewhere safe and let it get some air for a few days and give it another go after the wait. If it is less chemical tasting than you found your issue. Sometimes, like in my case with raspberry flavors, no amount of steeping will fix that odd chemical taste and you might have to move on to another flavor you enjoy. The last thing I can think it might be, is if its more of a burnt chemical taste, it could be your atty/carto that you are using. If you didn't burn it too bad, I would give it a good rinse under the sink in some hot water, dry it out for a bit, and try and give it another go. I remember when I first started vaping, almost every atty/carto I used I burnt and I would get that burnt flavor for weeks, and sometimes the taste would never go away. I solved this issue simply by understanding how to prime my atty's/carto's, and learning to wait a bit after filling for the first time before firing it up. Sometimes, esp with a few brands of carto's I have used in the past, it don't matter how long you wait or how good you primed it, its just gona get that burnt flavor no matter what, and you have to find a better made carto (or atty).

Welcome to vaping!

I was going to reply, but Nunnster just said it :)

And, as another poster said, it might well be the CE4.
I had one once. ONCE. That thing tasted just like chemicals. Ewwww.... I rinsed it out in hot water, dried it, tried again: still tasted like chemicals. I gave it away. Others are happy with them. Maybe I just got a bad one, that one time.

For non-yucky-tasting clearomizers I can recommend the Vivi Nova (pic - if you have that in the States) or the Evod (pic ). The Evod is ready to vape after about 30 seconds, the Vivi needs about 5 minutes to "sit" after the first filling, then it is ready to vape. None of those have tasted of chemicals yet, in my experience.

Well for me it is the flavorings. I ordered a lot of samples, they all tasted like perfume. So I decided to DIY, ordered a lot from WL of TFA flavors, almost all had a perfume taste. I am now only vaping myvapejuice tobacco (NET) extract flavorings and tfa coffee (dark), the only ones that don't have a perfume taste. I am trying my own extractions, but that is a work in progress. I think it is the flavorings, IMHO
