Ok so I got my first boxmod a couple days ago and it takes 18650. I bought a samsung battery to go with it, just in case the 18650 in my flashlight wasnt specced right... so I cant find a definitive answer so now I ask the experts. ..its a tenergy lithium ion 2600mah 3.7v protected battery. It would be going into an ipv2

Not a good battery for any mod.

Agree with the Turtle...get yourself some high drain IMRs with the highest possible continuous discharge rating.

The specifications are far below what is available and considered safe for vaping.
Tenergy button top 18650 lithium ion battery

Standard Discharge Current: 0.5C (End Voltage = 2.75V)
Max. Discharge Current: 1.5C

This translates to less than 4 amps max discharge, when 20 amp batteries are the minimum recommended for mods.
